Q:Should I buy steel toe boots or soft toe boots?
Steel toed boots are much safer than regular work boots. As a mechanic you'll be lifting many heavy things and using many tools. If something drops, than it won't hurt. And with the work I've done, I drop things all the time and I'm glad that I was wearing steel toed boots.
Q:Buoyancy question. Why does a steel nail sinks but a steel ship floats.?
A steel nail is much denser than the water. That means that it weighs more than an equivalent volume of water. Therefore, the buoyancy is never going to be enough to hold it up. Whether it is a big steel nail or a small one, it will always be too dense for the water to support it. Because of its shape, a steel ship is not as dense as water. It is not made out of a solid block of steel. Instead, the hull is built of thin plates of steel enclosing an open space. A steel ship is sort of like an empty cup. Although its sides are hard and dense, it holds a lot of air in the middle. Since air weighs almost nothing, it lowers the overall density of the ship to a point where its buoyancy exceeds its weight, and the ship floats. Think of it as you trying to sink a balloon.
Q:Mild Steel?!?
It contains less than 0.25 % carbon. These steels are hot worked and produced for beam and structural application. Low carbon steels are not hardened appreciably by hardening process of heat treatment. A decrease in carbon content improves ductility mild steels are used for wires, rods, thin sheets, solid drawn tube, boiler plates, steel joints, channels and angles, structural sections, drop forgings. they are further classifies into dead mild, and mild steel dead mild steel It contains 0.05% to 0.15% carbon. It is used for making steel wires, sheets, rivets, screws, pipe, nail and chain. It has a tensile strength of 390 N/mm2 and a hardness of about 115 BHN. there are many company which produce their products from this raw material like tube, pipe, S31803 Duplex tube fitting, pipe fitting etc
Q:Why is Iron used to create steel? ?
iron came before steel. iron is what was discovered that, under certain circumstances, became a stronger metal: steel. that is why. its like asking why copper is in bronze. because what we call bronze, is an alloy of copper and tin. if you give a more detailed question, i may be able to give a more detailed answer.
Q:Steel Arena ...........?
Though okorder.com/.. You can also have a look!!
Q:Steel Tensile Strength?
I don't follow your calculations. It seems to me that the piece you show could be made from .01 steel and still be less than a pound. Also, it is hard to get steel thinner than .015 because anything thinner is not very useful. If you made it out of .015 steel and used a high strength steel, it might be useful. You wouldn't be bashing any skulls, but with some spikes on the end, it could do some damage, and protect against knives or other hand weapons. You also won't get any bullet resistance out of anything that thin. If you want to bash skulls and deflect bullets, you have to get up to at least .10 and several pounds. Any weight on your hands slows down the speed of your punch, but this is compensated for by the increased energy of impact carried by the extra mass. Also, having something hard to protect your hands allows for harder hits and more damage to the opponent. An interesting idea, but it would take some testing to figure out the optimum configuration. One problem I see is that it completely encloses the hand, making it impossible to use the hand for anything else. So you would have to put it on and take it off a lot, and there would be cases where you wouldn't be able to put it on when you needed it. For that reason, I would not wear two at one time. I would make it heavier and wear it on one hand for bashing skulls and deflecting weapons, and keep the other hand free for other things.
Q:What is purpose of providing steel in compression zone in Doubly reinforced beam ?
There are several reasons to add compression steel. Keep in mind, supported steel (meaning it can't buckle) resists compression as well. Compression steel helps reduce long term deflections. Concrete creeps under sustained loads. Steel lessens the compression, meaning less sustained compressive stress to cause creep deflection. It makes members more ductile. Since the steel takes some of the compressive stress, the compression block depth is reduced, increasing the strain in the tension steel at failure, resulting in more ductile behavior (the moment at first yield remains largely the same with compression steel added, but the increase in capacity after yield is significant). Compression steel insures that the tension steel yields before the concrete crushes, meaning it helps change the failure mode to tension controlled. It makes beams easier to construct. With bars in the top and bottom, you have longitudinal reinforcement in all 4 corners of the shear stirrups to keep them in place when pouring the concrete. Also, for continuous members, its often easier to run your negative moment steel the full length of the beam rather than trying to cut it off in the positive moment regions. Serviceability concerns. You're going to end up putting steel in that region anyway to for temperature and shrinkage.
Q:Are steel toed hiking boots worth buying?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Are steel toed hiking boots worth buying? I have been wanting a new pair of hiking boots, but haven't had the money. I just got a job that requires me to have steel toed boots. The job is only for a few weeks, but I may be required to wear them on other jobs in the future. Regardless of which style I get, I will most likely be...
Q:Why would a knife be made from surgical steel?
This Site Might Help You. RE: Why would a knife be made from surgical steel? Its big and expensive and i don't know if it would have a logical purpose but its sharp as hell and awesome. Anyways, its made from surgical steel and all i have found on the internet is that its probably 316L (w/e that means). I have another knife made from 440 stainless steel and...
Q:Steel Estimating Question?
It is not clear what stage this project is in. Is it preliminary or has a detailed design been done. It is also not clear if this is only the steel material or does it include the labor as well. A rough guess using a percentage of the total cost is okay if you have historical data to help you. If you have a detailed design then the percentage method should only be used as a check on a detailed cost estimate developed from the plans. If you plan to use numbers provided by someone here on Answers I would hardly call that an estimate.
