Q:I think Tide works great for brightening clothes and was wondering is there anything out there that brings out the color in older carpets (my carpets are about 7 years old and they are starting to fade in color).: I'm having the same problem and I just searched the net and found a place that recommended using hydrogen peroxide and it............. so tomorrow I'll buy some and try that. but if you find anything better than the shampooer please let me know too!!! Thanks: A carpet of great quality that will last forever is a fat, heavy, patterned berber. Nearly everyone thinks it is hideous, your carpet installer will hate you, and it's not very soft. The best looking high wear carpet I have seen or installed is a frieze. It's also called California berber, California shag, or short shag. It has a tall, but loose pile and is very soft, especially if you put a heavy odo-ban pad underneath. I've noticed that salt and pepper or similar light/dark patterns look best in large areas. Also, frieze hides seams well, which is good if you have a large room.

Also was used to rap pipes as insulation, but inside the rapping the asbesto's is powdery. So your alright, but wear a face mask, those carpet fibers are yucky.

Q:I have a white carpet that has gotten dirty over the years. The color has just generally changed to a dirtier white. It's kinda dark and you can easily tell which parts of the carpet haven't gotten dirty over the years as they are perfectly white. I also have some stains. I tried bleaching some parts of the carpet which did actually work, but that left clean spots that look weird compared to how the rest of the carpet is. I would bleach the whole thing but it created such a strong smell last time that I couldn't sleep in my room. Is there a way to generally whiten the entire carpet with the supers strong smell of bleach. Preferably a way to do this with household items. Thank you.: Sorry man you have ruined your carpet. As a few other folks have mentioned you ''should'' have contacted an IICRC certified carpet cleaner. Bleach never stops oxidizing until you neutralize it. You can contact a qualified hot water extraction carpet cleaner (IICRC is a Professional association that indicates they know what they are doing) to see if they might be able to make it livable. By the way its a cleaning wand not a magic wand, they will only be able to do so much.

Q:I have a large black rug. The hairs in it are impossible to get out! I've tried vacuuming AND brooming. The hairs won't budge. Does a professional need to clean it or can I clean it myslef?Thanks.: Take the rug to a laundromat and use the oversize commercial washer, cold water and just a little detergent; too much soap and the rug will not spin dry well. Use the oversize commercial dryer too and use low heat. A lot of the hair should be gone now. If not, use your vacuum again to see if that makes any difference. Now if you're still dissatisfied with the result, weigh the cost of a professional rug cleaner against the cost of a new area rug. Life is too short to stress over an area rug princess!
