Q:My bike has a hub for a shimano freewheel with 7 gears. One of the dust covers in the hub is bended inwards and the cone goes through it. As a result the bearings come out. I was told by a bike's mechanic these dust covers are very hard to find and they are mostly manufactured for the specific wheel. Is that true? Do I have to change a full hub just because of this little dust cover? I did a quick search and found some for Shimano hubs but have not found one that looks like mine.
If the cones are properly adjusted, you could remove the dustcaps and the bearings would not fall out. Any hub made for freewheels will fit any brand of freewheel, your hubs are not made specifically for Shimano freewheels. The bike mechanic is correct, the dustcaps are specific to the brand and model of hub you have, but if bearings are falling out, there is a lot more wrong with your hubs that the dustcaps. The hubs have to be completely disassembled and inspected to see what is wrong. If the hubs are too damaged to rebuild, new wheels will cost less than changing a hub. If the hub is damaged, the rest of the wheel will also probably be in poor condition
Q:Well i recently bought a pro scooter and bout ABEC 11 bearings. I want to know if the higher number is better or the lower number?
The higher bearing number is better for those bearings
Q:Took my car to a local shop today b/c I thought I heard a funny noise. Mechanic said my exhaust bearings were bad... He said I needed 2 new ones and they were 150 each plus labor. Estimate of $500 for everything. Anyone know where I can get them cheaper? Or are they always this much? Thanks
There's no such thing as exhaust bearings. Someone is trying to rip you off. I hope this is a joke post.
Q:what is the typical repair cost for front wheel bearings in a 1990 toyota 4runner?
which part of the car are you talking about? the CV joint? does it knock when you turn left or right?
Q:So, we have a map and we have to draw a cruises route on the map.The place where I started from to the line I drew is 15 degrees east from true north on a compass. The magnetic variation is 11 degrees east. Does that mean the compass bearing is 4 degrees east from north?I'm probably totally wrong. What's the true bearing? I'm confused :(
True North is 15% off magnetic North. I'm not sure how your assignment is supposed to be worked but as an ex Navigational guy in the USN I can tell you we always put North at 000 the bearing on a location 15% east of there would be 015% South=180, East=090, West=270. that's how professionals do it we just don't worry about magnetic North. All our bearings are calibrated to true North
Q:i want something which is more free moveable or provide less friction then Ball bearings.thank you.
It might help some if we knew what your project was so we could help find a suitable replacement. What size are the ball bearings and how strong do they have to be? Maybe you could find some type of lubricant that has a longer life to assist the ball bearings in free rolling.
Q:i just bought brand new black panther ceramic bearings and they run hella slow can anyone give me advice (i know i should wait for the break in period to pass but they seem just a little to slow even for that)
I don't know ,but i say just continue to wait for the break in period.. Break 'em in man. make sure the bearings are installed correctly .. Make sure there in all the way in the chamber of each wheel. Don't tighten the bolt on the wheels to much neither.. Another thing that can help is adding some of that special bearing lubricant.. Or you can also apply motor oil. Dip your finger in oil and gently rub it around the side of the bearings.. Not to much just a little .etc.
Q:Hi, I have a problem with replacing the bearings on my bike, the ones I took out weren't tapered, and all the ones I have found on the internet are tapered. Was just wondering if anyone knows of any good parts websites that would probably sell old style bearings. Thanks, Kim :)
The reason for this is that EVERYBODY replaces old ball and race bearings with tapered bearings, even on my antiques, as they are far superior, last longer, and require little or no maintenance.
Q:All bearings are designed with tolerances to allow the moving parts to move, but how are wear limits determined? In other words, after time, the components will start to wear out and the bearing will become looser. Looking at some aircraft maintencance manuals, they provide wear limits in the radial and axial directions. But how are these wear limitis determined? Is there a particular calculation that is done or is an arbitruary number chosen?
General ideas only. In the case of journal bearings with forced lubrication (oil pressure), increasing clearance results in oil pressure drop. Ideally, journal bearings hold an oil film which supports the rotating shaft and minimizes metal/metal contact. Automobile engines run for hundreds of thousands of miles using this strategy. Radial ball bearings will tolerate excess clearance (depending on the load) but the shafts they support often will not. In cases where oil seals are used, excess shaft play damages seals and permits leaking. In the case of motor or pump shafts, bearing slack permits rotor/stator contact or impeller/involute contact. Rotating masses are never perfectly balanced or axially aligned. Bearing slack multiplies unbalanced force and consequent load.
Q:I bought these red bone bearings for my longboard and if i go down hill like little fast and just like carv and go side to side, will that ruin my bearings or what will thank u
