Q:i have removed the rear wheel and centre cap do i need to remove the drum
Hello Tony, When you are replacing your wheel bearings, front or rear, you will need to remove the braking assembly, regardless if it has drum or disc brakes. The bearings are either housed in a hub that has the studs machined into it, or they are part of a hub assembly that also has the studs machined into it. Anything between the lug nuts and these bearing housings (hubs) needs to be removed. Good Luck!
Q:How can i tell if my wheel bearings are bad? I replaced my Calipers on both sides and my pads. I can't do my rotors myself b/c it's a 97 honda and there pressed on. My rotors are in need of replacing but smooth and i don't believe them to be the cause of my grinding noise. The grinding noise is when i am driving and gets worse at higher speeds and tends to pulsate a bit. When i apply the brakes it doesn't get any worse and feels good under the foot? Could my bearings be gone? Thanks to all you techs out there I appreciate the help!
don't get hung up on front end noise. Many times noises the driver hears sounds like it is coming from the front when in reality it is a noise from the rear, . Wheel bearings tend to make a clicklng noise when going bad. have someone drive the vehicle past you, at low speed, and listen carefully. Also you can jack the car up and spin the wheels by hand. Driving is best because it puts a load on the bearings.
Q:im planning o getting a long board and i already have regular bearing and i was wondering if i could use them
They use the same bearings. Don't waste your money on anything more expensive than Bones Reds. Bearings make no difference. If they spin they're good.
Q:what kind of bearings are better for a skateboard???
i personaly like bones reds
Q:I soaked them in alchohol overnight and then dried them out for 30 minutes and i blew on them and stuff. then i applied 3 drops of lubricant to each bearing with bones speed cream. i also removed the bearing spacers. they seem slower, maybe by 20 seconds when i spin them. i havent skated them yet since i cleaned them. possibly i should put back the spacers? i have bones spf wheels with bones super swiss 6 bearings.
yes when you clean out your bearings they slow down a bit at first, they shouldn't take long to break in once you start skating, although it might seem like your going slower because your bearings will be silent compared to before
Q:Some folks say that using them to go through or under the rubber cover on a tie rod end doesn't get grease into the joint itself. Sound reasonable? Many ball joints these days don't seem to be greasable with them at all -- am I missing something? Can the needles lubricate sealed bearings, and if so, what's the technique? Thanks much
Grease For Ball Joints
Q:ok..muy f22b1 vtec engine has 22222 stamp on crank and ccbcc stamped on block which comes out to y/g,y/g,y,y/g,y/g. (that's yellow and green.)with yellows in the block and greens as well..(I know it meant one half yellow one half green, but I wanted to see the difference in the bearings...)the yellow had a clearance of .0020, which is the service limit for journals 1,2,3 4...here are muy books' readings-oil clearances-# 1 4 standard .0005-.0015 service-.002# 2 standard .0008-.0018 service-.002# 3 standard .0010-.0019 service-.0022# 5 standard .0004-.0013 service-.0016 I also tested browns and acl bearings.these are the clearances I got with a dial bore gauge.....green bearings- .0019yellow bearings- .0020brown bearings- .0015acl bearings- .0025at this point im not sure which way to go, go with stamps or clearances...any suggestions would be great... thanks
The deciding factor is clearance! But if you need new bearings- the crank should be turned to the next size. Now this might seem like a needless expense. But it is not! For one thing it makes sure there is not too much play at the mains and rods. The second is that turning the crankshaft smaller reduces friction. That means that the engine will rap out faster! Now while you have the crank in the shop- ask about getting the flash removed and peened. Also have take the piston and rods in for a finer tolerance balance. Reducing internal engine resistance is what a performance rebuild is all about- not just slapping new parts in a worn block.
Q:Any suggestions? Been lookin around.. found arsenal abec 9s reeeeallly cheep but i cant find them anywhere to see how bad they are if i can get 16 for $10. Secondly my skates are about 4 years old should i get new spacers as well?
$10 isn't bad for a set of bearings, especially ABEC-9's. However, bearings are overrated. Unless you are a pro, and can utilize any gains you get from top of the line bearings, you can get away with any old style of bearing. I get mine from my neighbor. He is a supplier of industrial bearings. I get them form him for about 25 cents each. I have gotten a bunch for my friends as well. They all say to a man they can't tell the difference. Spacers shouldn't wear out, so unless you have another set of wheels, you shouldn't need more that 8 spacers. I get second and third sets to make wheel changes easier. I play on wood, concrete, and sport court, and can't afford three pairs of skates, so I change wheels for each surface. Have a good one! Steve.
Q:People keep saying they`re good, but i just wanna make sure. I will rate the best answer. Please answer ASAP )
It depends more on the brand than the ABEC rating. ABEC is almost meaningless for skates or boards because it is about vibrations that would happen around 200 mph. Early skates and boards came with precision bearings that are (in spite of their grade name) really poor and sloppy. ABEC 1 bearings were a massive improvement but the differences between ABEC 1 and ABEC 7 is extremely small and the smaller tolerances in ABEC 7 can make them go slower. A number of high end companies have designs that violate the ABEC standards but are better for skates and boards by letting the bearings roll easier and be more durable. Zero Drag, Bones, and Twin Cam all sell ABEC rated bearing but their better ones are not ABEC.
Q:Im paying $1,200 to replace rear differential bearings for a ?
For a what? I cannot think of any bearings costing so much. You wrote you are paying - Am I right in thinking you didn't give your problem much thought!
