That's gonna cost you $$$ The modern ignition system was design to be smart and you should have the code scanned and READ the code to find the reason behind the Check Engine Light. Go to autozone (or any of the many Auto parts store with this service) and have the code scanned. Then come back with more question WITH THE CODE. Good luck.

Q:I just got into my car this morning and noticed my ABS light is on. It was not on last night, so I have no idea what happened. My car sat inside all night, and like I said, when I got in and started it this morning, the ABS light was on and did not turn off the entire way to work. You have to ask yourself can you get around in the winter without your own transportation? It gets cold and snowy in Jersey so you can only ride your bike maybe 6 or 7 months of the year. Mine is in winter storage right now and I can't get it out until all the #$%^*( snow goes away! Up here where it snows a bike is fun transportation not cheap transportation down in FLA or GA then it is cheap transportation because you can ride the darn things all year long. Get a small car!

Q:Hi, I recently got my VW Jetta an oil change and tire rotation. However, the dealer said my engine light is still on and needs more maintenance to fix that. They said it possibly could be my gas cap not being on tight enough letting too much air into the tank causing the light to come up. I just got it scanned at auto-zone, and the code that came up was: P2432. It said something about air flow or fuel injection. How much do you think this would cost if I took it back to the dealer? Should I take it to a non VW mechanic and do it for cheap? Any experts on VW Jettas would be much appreciated.

The code means, Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit Low. That is not a problem. The secondary air injection system is only designed to warm up the catalytic converter faster, and is not even a good idea. The pressure sensor circuit could include the purge valve, but it is easy to test by temporarily plugging it after the charcoal canister up by the right front, in the engine compartment, on the intake side. Then you can leave the gas tank side open if you want. If that makes the light not come one, than you are fine. But once the light is on, you have to reset it, because it is a saved code, and will not reset by itself. One way to reset it if you do not have an ODBII reader, and Autozone won't reset it for you, is to disconnect the battery and then turn on the headlights for a few minutes. This will cause possible alarm problems if you have security, such as the radio may need a code entered before working then, and it may not run optimally for a few hours, until it relearns. Never take a car to the dealer if you can help it. Find a good independent VW shop. There are lots of them.

Q:The car left the house fine, with no indicator lights. After I got back in after leaving the bank, both the Brake and Battery light came on. I parked it back at the house and the fluid level is fine, the oil level is fine, and the belts are intact (as far as I can tell). I went back later to start the car and it sounded like it turned over, although it apparently did not as the RPMs were 0, it was super quiet, and when put into gear, it would not budge or rev. The brake jammed up too but I was able to get it back in park. then the check engine and oil pressure lights came on! The air was blowing hot and the radio was still playing. I turned it back off and it revved and the air was cool again, although the original two lights were still one (the others turned off). I didn‘t put it into gear so I can‘t speak on it this time around. The car has had a recent alternator and battery change (last year) and a wreck sometime long ago, before my dad got it.WHAT IS UP?

Multiable warning lights sounds like another alternator issue. Better have the charging system and battery tested. If you can hook up a battery charger and a auto parts store is near by drive it over or call dad to check to test and replace the alternator. Good Luck
