Q:ok so i wired the subs to the amp now, the positive (Red) goes to the battery, the ground (Black) is currently grounded to the metal under my drivers seat. My question is does it matter the color wire is that goes to the stereo? Can i use a red or black? Does it really matter? If not, where exactly would i hook it up behind my aftermarket sony headunit?
if your talking about your RCA wires that go from your stereo to your amp. the color doesnt matter as long as left and right are hooked up correctly
Q:I was re-wiring a light switch and a fan control knob and I accidentally cut a wire too short. This wire comes out the front of the fan dial and goes around to the back, connecting to another wire, thus placing a wire nut impossible. Can I just link the two ends together, then seal it with electrical tape? Or do I have to buy a new fan dial (which will cost $25, a cost I'm trying to avoid)? Will just the tape be safe enough?
You should go to Home Depot or an electric store and get some beans to connect them. The associate will tell you how to connect them. Or just youtube, 'beaning electric wire'
Q:Hey can some1 help me, on my lamp i have a White, a Yellow wire with tints of green in it and a black wire. on my cord that i am going to plug in is a Blue, brown and a yellow wire
Run a continunity check on the cord from the brown and blue wires to the blades on the plug. The brown should go to the wider blade, but could be other way around. Then the yellow wires go together. The one (brown or blue) from the wider blade goes to the black one from the lamp. The other one goes to the white wire.
Q:how do i tap a speaker wire? car audio not really my department
RE: Why Monster XP speaker cord sounds worse than production facility speaker cord? purely put in Monster XP speaker cord to all my Onkyo audio gadget and now its lots softer than the speaker cord that got here with my Onkyo receiver. quantity was once at 25-35 and it grew to become into loud and sparkling. Now after the Monster XP cord, I would desire to crank the receiver to approximately 50-60 to get the comparable sound...
Q:The application is a bathroom light and exhaust fan combination. The fixtures wires are thiner than the supply wires. Should I wrap the thinner wire around the thicker wire or should I wrap them equally around each other? Then can I put a drop of solder on before I put the wire nut. Or is solder not a good idea?
Solder is unnecessary. Be sure to use the proper sized wire nut, and twist the wires together. after you install the wire nut, give each wire a slight tug to ensure that they are securely connected. Hope this helps.
Q:I no longer have enough 0 gauge wire would it be bad to use 0 gauge power wire to the amp and 4 gauge wire to ground the amp?
Umm well it really depends on how much power you are running through it. If your amp is only about 200-400 watt rms, then you should be fine with a 4awg ground. However, if your rms is higher than 400 you seriously need to consider getting some bigger gauge wire.
Q:What happens when you hook these 2 wires up right along each other?
if you have an rca tv which works with 12 volts.......if the wires not connected to battery...there no problem. if connected to battery....the fuse blows.(close to battery on wire)....if there is no fuse....wires burn...risk of fire....do not forget...every device works with car battery MUST and MUST be eouipped fuse .
Q:I hooked up my Klipsch floor speakers with the old-cheapy wire and then bought, I think it was monster cable, and bi wired it. Big sound improvement. But I've heard pros and cons on monster cable. I have three zones to wire in my house. If I bi wire the other two zones what's the best wire to get? You can spend a small fortune on wire. If I bi wire, zone 2 would be 30 feet x 4 and zone 3 50 feet x 4. I read that if one of the wires is silver it's better as silver's the best conductor. This I knew already. But, when I bought the wire that I did, it didn't state anywhere on the label that it contained silver and I think that would be a drawing point. In fact, I didn't see any wire at that store that said it was part silver and it wasn't Walmart but a major electronics store. I did see some that had silver colored strains but so is steel and aluminum. I also read on another forum that CAT 5 wire works well for bi wiring? Thoughts? Opinion?
The only place you will find genuine silver speaker cables is at very high end stores and the Internet. It is a good choice for the high end audiophile but if you are bi wiring three zones you could upgrade your speakers and use copper wire for the money spent and this would be a much more noticeable improvement. Some good Monstercable will do fine. If you are fishing through walls you want to get some wire that is UL rated for in-wall installation. Many communities have building codes requiring this since ordinary wire can get stripped when fished and cause a short circuit in the amplifier. I have seen Cat 5 used in multi-room applications but I recommend against it. It does not make very good speaker wire and it is particularly important to have decent speaker wire in the long runs involved with multiple zones. To sum up --The cheap wire that has one side colored silver is beneath you. Wire made of real silver is overkill for you. Cat 5 is a bad idea for speakers. If fishing through walls get in-wall wire.
Q:I need to buy some electrical wire for my car, does it matter what color the copper wire is inside of ( i.e. black, yellow, red, green, blue, etc.)
Well, keeping your colors straight will definitely make your wiring easier to understand later on. Red should got to the positive side, black to the negative. Any other colors are more or less up to you. What actually matters more is choosing the right gage of wire for the job. If your wire is too thin for the current going through it, it will melt quite quickly and possible start a fire. Make sure you know what gage you need before you start, and don't try to go cheap. Hope this helps!
Q:How could you relate greater wire length resulting in greater resistivity to the context of home
Greater wire length will certainly give you a higher resistance. Since heat is measured in watts, and watts (W) =I^2R, where I=Current and R= resistance, then if you double the resistance of a wire (by making it twice as long) you also double the ammount of watts lost in the wire. Since watts equates to heat, this ammount of heat will make the wire hotter. If you use an extension lead, and wind it round a drum, it can get very hot indeed.
