Q:I have stark white tiles in my kitchen bathroom, would like to spruce it up but I don‘t want it to look like a sticker. Has anyone used these? Do they look cheap, like a sticker on a tile? do they come off easy or do they leave a residue?
We had our whole kitchen wall covered with white glossy tiles when we purchased it and as my Mother said it looks like a Hospital wall. We looked around and found some hand painted colorful tiles and also others with different styles of prints baked onto them. By removing several tiles and carefully replacing them with the newer ones then grouting them, it brought the room to life. If the house is rented or leased I don't think it would be wise to do what we did unless you get the OK from the owner etc. Certain transfers and decals would look OK and can easily be removed if and when you need to. Dampen them and they can be scraped off carefully with a Razor Blade scraper gently leaving no residue after wards. If they do just clean it off with metho or similar etc.
Q:I bought a co-op that is 80 years old and the bathroom is all original. I like the antique look of it but the tile and in the tub is grungy and has stains. I have tried Pine Sol and Comet but they haven‘t helped much. Does anyone have any advice that doesn‘t involve renting power tools and grinding the floors up?HELP.
sounds like the enamel is shot on both tub and tiles, if bleach or a professional tile cleaner will not work then you need to replace both
Q:I‘m looking to re-tile my kitchen... I would like to get good quality tile, at a good price. Can I trust tile purchased at any particular large hardware chain, or should I seek out a specialty flooring store? Or does it even matter that much - is tile just tile?
If you want a good price, go to Home Depot or Lowes. If you want a selection and expertise, to to a tile specialty shop. I live in a town with 350,000 people and we have about 6 shops that deal only in tiles. They will have enough options to make your head spin, and their sales people will know what they are talking about. If you like a particular tile at the shop, you can of course go and see if it is carried at a big box store and compare price. In my experience big box stores are short on selection. FWIW, installing tile isn't as hard as some of the other posters make it sound. I did my first DIY tile job in a bathroom at my first house. It turned out so well I have since done 3 more jobs and they all look professional quality. If you want to try to lay them yourself, just do some research first. Once you set your first course of tile, it is no different that putting a jigsaw puzzle together....and your design has no limits. Advice: if you are laying natural stone tile (slate, marble, granite) you have to seal the surface of the tile before gluing them down, or you will have an impossible time cleaning up the mastick. Ceramic or glass tile isn't really a problem.
Q:Bathroom Tiling Job?
Ceramic tile or vinyl tile? Ceramic tile you need a total substrate of no lees than 1 1/4. This means you need to add a minimum or 1/2 to make it sturdy enough for tile . And the very best ting to use ( for the average DIY) is 1/2 cement board. And this needs to be properly installed. This will comply to ATC and TCA tile codes.. If your using a vinyl tile you possible can go over it all w/o underlayment but I strongly suggest a 1/4 wood underlayment such as luan. This gives you a clean surface to bond to. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:hi friends.. we r constructing a new house.. many people say us lay tiles for floorins and many say to use marbles or granite?...so confused!!!!.. wat to do?quite big house situated quite beneath the hills.
tiles much cheaper than marble/granite
Q:I almost bought porcelin tile but I know ceramic tile is much more popular, what about the endurance factor between the two? I want to get something that will last and still look good.Does anyone know about flooring, and could tell me which is best?
Porcelain is a more dense tile with less water absorption. I prefer porcelain over ceramic. In most cases when/if you get a chip in porcelain it is much more noticeable. In any case, your taste will most likely determine your choice. However, tile has ratings, i.e., 1 thru 5. 1 being less durable and 5 being most durable. 1's and 2's would be a wall tile and 3-5 would be a floor tile. Ask your supplier when you see something you like. If he doesn't know, go somewhere else.
Q:Why the new tiles are double? What material, so good?
Process: Ingredients - Ingredients - Ball Pulping - Spray Powder Making - Pressing - Drying - Printing (Chemicals - Ingredients - Ingredients - Ball Mills - Burning → Polishing, Edging → Grading → Waxing → Packaging → Library
Q:The tile I want to clean was built with the house back in the early 1900‘s but still in very good condition what would be the best way to clean that because its very dirty, and i think its porcealin. The second set of tile looks like it was put in back in the seventies but doesn‘t match the original tile at all, what would be the best way to change the color other than replacing it. Could i use pray paint?
Generally I would recommend avoiding painting over tile. There are several excellent tile cleaning products available at your local hardware store; talk with someone at the store about your specific situation. If you MUST paint over the tile; you will want to treat it with some sort of an acid wash first to etch the surface so that the paint will stick. I strongly recommend that you put a couple coats of primer on first before you paint your color as the tile and grout will have notably different properties with respect to your painting job.
Q:We have small ceramic tiles on our bathroom floor. They are varied in shape and size (see photo).I think that these tiles originally came with some sort of netting on the back when they laid the floor and they added grout? I believe I saw some extra tiling somewhere in our home and this is what I had found.Anyway, the grout is breaking up between some of the tiles and some of the tiles keep popping out. I have two questions, If I regrout them do I put it on the bottom of the tile too and does that make the tile adhere to the floor? How would I get the grout to match what‘s already there, it‘s a medium brown gray. Not sure if it started out that way or became like that over the years. Would it look funny if the grout didn‘t match? How could I get it to match?
no, reglue tiles, regrout after cleaning out old stuff. 2 step process
Q:How to buy tiles? What kind of good?
3. Touching the tiles sound crisp, bad voice boring 4. fight four pieces of brick together, the same size, side seam small and straight as well. Warping serious will affect the solid tiles. 5. Try to drop colored water droplets (such as tea, ink) on the front of the tile, put it down for a minute and then wipe it with a damp cloth. If there is a trace on the brick, it means that dirt is sucked into the brick. , Then the tile does not smoke, easy to clean brick quality. For more graphic experience, see ToGo experience
