Fleece is an excellent choice for a rug and will absorb sweat easily. Tendon boots are also a great investment for your horse if he does a lot of jumping.

Cut a square piece of the rug out. Take an old pair of jeans. Cut out a square 1 bigger on all sides as the cut square of the rug. Use Elmers glue and glue the jeans square to the subflooring then put glue on the top of the square. Cut a piece of the carpet from the piece that you have the same size as the first square you cut out. Place it on top of the blue jeans square and press down to make sure it is totally catching the glue. Voila!

If you use a powder like carpet fresh it will do that. If the backing on the carpet is breaking down also it will turn to powder. Carpets are huge allergen and bacteria traps. The only carpets I keep in my home are area rugs. When they get nasty out they go and Ibuy new ones. Figure the cost of cleaning them and you can buy a good area rug every 2 years.
