Q:I have a really old white carpet. over the years it has only become dirtier. Now, Before you say anything, i don't have a steam vacuum cleaner that works and i don't have any foam what ever to put on my carpet before i vacuum. Is there any DIY or easy home remedy i can use?Please and thank you!

Q:So last night I got rug burn on my face (fell on carpet and my face slid on it). My dad told me to let it air out, so last night i slept with nothing on it. This morning my mom calls and tells me a nurse she works with told her it needed to be really moist and hydrated, so ive had neosporin/aquaphor/aloe gel on it all day. The nurse said if it dries out and scabs it could scar, so keeping it hydrated wont allow it to scar. In the past couple hours a white layer has formed over most of the burn, what is this? And is this how I should be treating this burn?

Q:The problem with putting a rug on carpet is that the natural nap in the rug and the nap in the carpet work against each other. Makes bumps like you wouldn't believe (even if no one walks on it). Furniture on top of the rug makes it worse.Does anyone else have this problem and if so have you been able to fix it, or at least minimize the bumps on the rug?

Dawn is right.. The special rug to carpet under layment ( its not really a pad).Its thin and feels tacky but leaves no residue. These underlayments are real thin and will pick up dirt naturally and loose their tackiness but you can toss them in the washer and they come back to work again. Some one will tell you to get the shelf liner material, this is not the same stuff and can leave marks.

Q:We've lived in our house for almost two years and have the most annoying rug in the living room. It sheds constantly and it's like having a pet! I'm getting really sick of it as don't like putting my baby son down on the floor to play as he ends up covered in white fibres and if they get on his hands, they're in his mouth! No amount of vacuuming seems to help. I'm thinking about getting a new rug, but worried about spending a fortune only to have the same problem again! Does anyone know any types of rug that won't shed? I've read that wool ones are the worst... any general rug advice appreciated!!!

Depends how deep you burnt it. If not too deep, try clipping the melted portion off with a pair of nail clippers or small scissors.

Q:We have off white carpet (which is now brown and stained) that is 10 years old. We have two toddlers (more to come) and 3 dogs. The dogs come in from outside right onto the carpet. I am looking for a flooring solution that will meet our needs. I expect our future holds many more carpet stains so I am looking into carpet tiles for our family room. I know, not pretty but functional. What do you all think? Are there some higher quality carpet tiles whereby our family room won't look like cheap office carpet? We don't want tile and we do not want laminate as we need soft floor for dogs and kids. Real hardwood would be nice but price prohibitive. Please let me know if you have any experience with carpet tile and what your general outlook on carpet tile/squares is. P.S. when we sell the house we would go ahead and put in new quot;realquot; carpet before we move.

We have carpet tiles in our basement and I have no complaints. We also have 2 little kids, a dog and 2 cats and it is holding up well. We've had some stubborn stains, but I am sure the quality of the tiles that the people who were before us wasn't that great. Ours is kind of blah in color, but it hides more dirt that way.

Q:My couch is black leather. I have a glass top coffe table with black legs. My tv is black, and the TV stand is black w/ a very dark wood. Also some other dark wooden misc peices that match. I want to paint the walls a fire engine red to make the room pop, but I also need a rug. I've been searching every store everywhere, but NOTHING seems to match. We tried several animal prints, but it ended up look tacky. Any suggestions??

Maybe like a burgundy color. You can pick a rug and go to Home Depot or Lowe's and they can match the paint to the color.

Q:every time i leave the housemy cat pees the rug even when we are sleeping. we have tried every thing with the viniger and that stufff that cleens the rug and takes away the odor. the rug is by the window cill and there are some stray cats running around outside. every time she does is we flick her nose and put her in our bathroom. plz help i`m tired of scrubbbing my carpet.

Flicking your cat and putting her in the bathroom wont help. Cats arn't able to connect being put in the bathroom with punishment for peeing. Instead schedule her/him for a vet appointment. If your cat can't control its bladder, there might be some other health problem causing that. Or, if your cat isnt fixed or neutered...that could be causing some frustrations instigated by the outside cats resulting in spraying. In the mean time, invest in a carpet shampooing vaccume. Instead of just steaming, they steam and shampoo and they even sell special pet oder/stain removing detergent to use in them. Then, get some baby gates from a friend (people love getting rid of them) and close off a few spaces for kitty until you figure out the problem. Good luck!
