Q:Can Ceramic tile be put on concrete slab?
Ceramic tile is installed on concrete slabs all the time and it is a good fit. I would agree with fixing the leak first; however, more than this, if it is an older system and the pipes are copper or steel (rather than pex tubing) then the system is not going to last and the occasional leaks are a sign of a system failure. You will have to decide if you want to replace the system with a new radiant floor above the existing slab or you wish to proceed with some alternative heating/distributing system. This you might want to decide before you consider a ceramic floor.
Q:Tile conversion into square feet....?
to determine the square footage of your kitchen, it might be easier to measure the length and the width of your room and then multiply it....for instance if you have a kitchen which is 10ft X 15 ft.....the square footage is 150 sq. feet.....
Q:How many tiles do I need?
4 x 4 = 16 divide by 4098 Then figure out if you have to buy a whole box or a 1/2 is ok for the remainder. Also you have to allow for grout. Figuring 1/8 so add 1/16 per tile. So your figure is really 4.0625 x 4.0625 or 16.5 divided by 4098 249 *******Hmmm Clayton.....9 per sq foot silly and you didn't deduct for the tub. Altho getting some for breakage is smart.
Q:Which trowel for stone tiles?
I tile every day of my life, and I want to assume these Stone Tiles are at least Milled flat on one side, though if they are RAW, not production glazed, I wouldn't be using them on a counter top. I also don't always use 1/4 inch mortar beads on counter tops, often choosing 1/8, (In the same Tool you purchased). Floor tiles yes, always. That's just a personal choice and not a Law set in stone (no pun intended). You have the correct tool for Thinset. The saw edge applicators, are usually used for mastics/Adhesive tile setting materials, which are also, often used for counter tops, Not very practical for tile or stone. Steven Wolf just my two sense
Q:what is a easy way to remove glue down floor tiles?
It's according to your budget, the size of your arms and the shape your back is in. A 2 1/2 wide masons chisel and a 4 lb hammer will get it done about as fast as you can do it, if your body is up to it. If you have an air compressor you can buy an air chisel at Big Lots, Walmart, etc., for around 20 bucks and that will get the job done, along with the first answer for the real stubborn places as easy as you are going to do it. It will take at least a 2 or 3 hp compressor. Check the cubic feet per minute on both it and the chisel. I have done it using both when the compressor really wasn't large enough. When it runs low on air, grab the hammer and let the pressure build up. One last bit of info. Get you a little creeper seat or build you one that keeps your tail about 8 to 12 inches above the floor. You DO NOT WANT TO BE DOING IT ON YOUR KNEES. If you are a young buck like I used to be, when you get to be an old man like I am now, you will pay for it. Trust me, I am on disability now because of what I used to think was OK to do. Your body only has so many miles for it. Keep the speed down, if you know what I mean. Save something for the good times. And yes, mastic is glue. Good to put down but the worst to get back up.
Q:Remove/Seal Old Tile Glue in Kitchen?
If you are going to install any type of self stick or glue down tile the floor has to be completely smooth underneath. If not you will see ridges and grooves all over the floor. Go to your local lumber yard or tile store and get adhesive remover to remove the old glue. Then you are going to want to fill in any cracks, seams or low spots in the sub floor with 'crack fill' and sand the repairs smooth. Then seal the sub floor with a primer made for the type of tile you are going to put down and install the tile according to the manufacturers recommendations. Good Luck.
Q:How to I fix tile that has been overgrouted!?
If you let the grout get *really* wet, and if you haven't sealed it yet, after it soaks for a while, you should be able to rub it off with a towel or rage, if you use a bit of elbow grease. It will come off without damaging the tile
Q:Do tile floors ever feel clean?
The tiles are probably anti slip so they will naturally feel a bit rough to your bare feet. Also, if the tiles are brand new then it will take a while for you to sweep and mop away the dust left from the tile glue and grouting. The best way I've found to remove this fine grit from tiles is, unfortunately, to get down on your hands and knees with a dish sponge and a bucket of hot soapy water and physically scrub them - at least twice, more likely 3 or 4 times.
Q:Landlord has unmatching tiles in the bathroom?
I guarantee you'd be laughed out of court over this issue. Not only that, but you'll completely lose the respect of the landlord who's had the misfortune of getting stuck with someone like you as a tenant.
Q:How do I repair a cracked tile?
If you must fix the crack, go to a stone fabrication company, they have a product called akimi that can be colored to match the tile and will harden when mixed with a hardner. The only problem is that tile does not crack unless the tile is not bonded or the substrate moves, so your one tile may be the first of many to crack. Take a broom handle and tap the tile, the cracked one might have a hollow sound, if it does, it is not bonded well to the floor. tap the others to see if you have other problems.
