Q:I recently bought a home with old fashioned pink and blue tile, is there an inexpensive way to make it look better? Help.....
Surprisingly, if you go to Lowes or Home Depot and look in the tile section, it really isn't that expensive to put down new tile. There is a tool to remove the grout from the old tile so that you can pry the old tile up. After that, the installation isn't difficult. I would go that route as opposed to trying to doctor old tile. Good luck!
Q:Our house was built in 1925. My husband is removing our bathroom floor tiles that haven‘t been touched since then...we had only vinyl tiles on top of the old. He discovered these tiles are extremely difficult to take out they are very hard tiles under the vinyl we have now. Then when he tried to remove the hard tiles he had to remove concrete like stuff and sand like stuff. It‘s been one hell of a job just to remove everything. He went down to the foundation of the house! I just started worrying now about asbestos. I remember how old homes have them. Is it possible there is asbestos in these? There is a lot of dust in the house because of the removal process. Anyone know? I have two small kids and I‘m petrified. I‘ve heard of vinyl tiles having them, but what about the other stuff in our floors?
Asbestos was used in everything: insulation, wall plaster, flooring, etc. But mostly in industrial setups (think fireproofing). Homes more often than not only had flooring and insulation that sometimes contained it. Most did not. 10s of Millions of people have been exposed and a few tens of thousands developed conditions due to it. About the same ratio have developed cancer due to fiberglass and that is considered to be safe by lawmakers. Asbestos related diseases happen so rarely that they can't even guess what the incident rate might be. Radon is proven to be at least 10x more dangerous. My opinion is you have nothing to worry about as long as no rubbish company tests the material and finds it positive. If you want to know, it costs about 20 to 30 dollars per item tested plus whatever fees they might collect to collect the test items. Actually you should be more concerned about lead in the paint. Any painted surface that was around back then will definitely have lead.
Q:I think the thinset under some of my ceramic tiles is crumbling. I have a concrete slab floor and it involves about 12 tiles between my kitchen and dining room. The grout and tiles have not cracked yet, but how would I fix the thinset without breaking up the good tiles?
Tedr is right.. W/O seeing it its hard to tell.. Get down on your hands and knees and rap on it w/ your knuckles.. If it sounds hollow and then solid on another part that isn t making sounds then more than likely it s loose tile and just the gout and pressure is holding it together..Seen it many times.. Trdr has many of causes right too.. But its hard to say just what it is GL
Q:How to choose the difference between tile types
1, glazed tiles Glazed tiles are the bricks of the brick surface treated by glazing. Glazed tiles according to the different materials, divided into ceramic glazed tiles and porcelain glazed tiles. Ceramic glazed tiles are made from clay, with high water absorption and relatively low strength. The main feature is that the back color is red and the porcelain glazed tiles are made from porcelain clay with low water absorption and relatively strong Higher, the main feature is the back of the color is gray. Glazed tiles are the most common brick decoration, not only rich in color, and anti-fouling ability, is widely used in wall and floor decoration.
Q:i stay in a moblie home and i would like to lay tile but a lot of ppl are saying not to cause within time the wood under it would give way is that true i dont want to put more carpet cause i have little ones and am tired of shampooing my carpet i have to do it about 4 times a yr and my carpet is a dark green i know but thats what it came with it look nice when it was new but the carpet is 3 yrs old now and not so good looking after so much cleaning .well let me know please
you should be fine as long as you put down cement board first. all the home centers carry it
Q:I want to install vinyl over a tile floor. What procedures should I take? What adhesive? What prep on the ceramic?
Vinyl Over Ceramic Tile
Q:The classification of various tiles and the specific process
Tiles in accordance with its production process and characteristics can be divided into glazed tiles, quintana brick, polished tiles, tiles and mosaic. Glazed tile glazed tiles is the brick surface of the brick after the glaze treatment. It is based on the raw materials, can be divided into two kinds: ceramic glazed tiles, that is, made from clay, water absorption is high, the intensity is relatively low. According to the local soil distinction, there are red soil also white (yellow) soil. Porcelain glazed tiles, that is made of porcelain clay, low water absorption, the intensity is relatively high. Its main feature is the back of the color is gray. According to the different gloss, can also be divided into the following two: bright glazed tiles, suitable for manufacturing "dry Net "effect. Matte glazed tiles, suitable for manufacturing" fashion "effect. The surface of the quintana brick body is not glazed, and the front and back of the material and color consistent, hence the name. Quintana bricks are a kind of wear-resistant tiles, although there are varieties such as seepage through the whole body, but relatively speaking, its color than glazed tiles. As the current interior design more and more tend to plain design, so the whole body tiles are increasingly becoming a fashion, is widely used in the hall, aisle and outdoor walkways, etc. Decoration of the ground, generally less will be used in the wall, and most of the anti-skid brick are all bricks.
Q:We are laying 18 x 18 porcelain tiles in our kitchen for an open house we‘re having in 6 days. We can‘t figure out when and how to tile under the refrigerator. Do we have to move the refrigerator into another room? Can we wait two days for the mortar and grout to set firm and move the refrigerator onto the newly installed tile so we can lay tile where refrigerator will go? If we do that, should we then wait 24 hours for that tile to set so we can move the refrigerator back into place? What is the best way to handle the installation? I would appreciate any thoughts on how this is most ideally done.
1. Should have been done days ago. 2..Under present circumstances I would install all tile EXCEPT beneath the fridge. 3. Then, after open house, newly laid tile will have had a least a week for the adhesive and grout to fully set and cure, 4. Gently tilt the fridge backward to raise the front wheels [or casters or whatever] off the floor 5. Install a metal sheet [the thickness of the new tile and mortar and the width of the casters (wheels) under the fridge] under the front of the fridge and butted up against the new tile. This is to protect the edge of the new tile when you gently roll the fridge out of its cubbyhole in the cabinetry, 6. Remove the old floor covering, and clean and prep the floor. 7. Install the mortar and new tile, leaving the fridge out until the tile has set, and then 8. Replace the fridge.
Q:THis will be done in the powder room. Also, I am planning not to use backerboard because the tiles will be 9 x 12
I recently tiled a room of approximately the same size. Not including the cost of the tile, it cost about $150.00. I used quick set, which costs about $40 per tub. One tub, if used properly, should be enough. If the floor on which you are installing the tile is not concrete, you should stronly consider using the backing board. This will help reduce the chances of the grout, and tile from cracking. If installed on a wooden (plywood) floor, the floor can flex, resulting in cracking of the tile and grout.
Q:What is the concept of tiles?
Smick (002162): Is located in Minhang District, Shanghai, the main precision ceramics, building ceramics, the company is Shanghai's local construction ceramics company, combined with the company in the color ceramic and high-grade building ceramics leading position in the next few years the development opportunities better.
