- My okorder and state what you are looking for. You will most likely get an overwhelming response. Other than that, I would go to my nearest big flooring chain and ask to speak to one of the installers. Chances are you will run into one that has his own inventory and be more than happy to sell it to you.
- Q:I have a bunch of bottle caps and I thought it might be cool to encase them in some type of clear material so I could use them for tiles in my shower. Is it even possible to do that?
- I think that you can make tiles with resin. Just make a mold of a tile. A square mold, put the caps inside, then pour the resin inside and let it dry. It might work that way.
- Q:I have granite tiles I want to put on a kitchen countertop. I removed the laminate and underneath is about 1.5 thick of a particle board of some sort. The countertop is very sturdy and the board is in great shape. I know if this stuff get wet, you can have problems, but otherwise it seems to be very sturdy stuff. I know most people will say you need to put down a sheet of hardibacker, but I don‘t see the point. With a top grade thinset, these tiles will definitely adhere to the board extremely well. Grount lines will be extremely tiny and I‘m going to double seal everything with a really good sealer. I don‘t see anyway water is going to penetrate these tiles and thinset and get to the particle board. That‘s really the whole issue, right?
- I agree with you. You will always need to be aware that there is a possibility the tiles may come loose one day and need to be fixed. Tile adhesive on plywood or particle board may react differently than on backerboard. If budget is a problem, I would try it.
- Q:I have laminate over plywood right now in a bathroom. I‘d like to peel that off and lay tile down. Do I need the cement board or can I just put the tiles right on the plywood? It would save a lot of time and energy if I can just lay the tiles on the existing wood.
- If the laminate isn't peeling you can tile right over that. Sand with coarse sandpaper....clean with TSP.....prime with oil-based kilz-it. Let that dry and start tiling. Don't use a premixed adhesive and grout all in one. It won't stand up to the moisture. Get the correct thinset for the tiles you will be using.
- Q:How does the concrete on the tiles clean?
- Often the right way is to use oxalic acid. Apply oxalic acid to a concrete tile, wait 10 minutes later, rinse with water, brush with a brush, it is easy to get rid of. - sure, the adhesive will carry without the grout. Down the line the tiles will be extra problematical to get the mould/bathe crud out because the perimeters of the tile are not completely sq.. Grout makes the interest seem professional. Grout is available in distinct colorations yet gray is the guideline. remember to seal the tiles if the tile producer states so.
- Q:I need tile removed from my shower
- Start with a key hole saw, and saw all around the out side of the tile, cutting through the dry wall.After all the plumbing covers are removed, you can then start to use a pry bar and work the tile loose from the studs. This will work for tile over dry wall, over a backer board or even a mud job.. Cover the tub well, wear a dust mask and cover all areas for dust protection. Open a window if possible and set a fan there blowing dust out. Use hammer as little as possible to prevent razor sharp chips from flying and wear all safety gear, including long sleeve shirts, eye and ear protection. And most of all have the elbow grease ready. - Penetrating sealer.. Although a water based product, a couple of coats will last years. Mist on( w/ a spray bottle) wipe it thoroughly over the tile and grout with a damp cloth. I dampen a cloth with the sealer. Let set for 10/15 minutes and wipe excess off amd dry. Don t let it puddle and dry. Repeat at least once , twice if possible. The grout must be set for a minimum of 3 days with all the excess grout has all cleaned off. I ve have only used 2 brands over the years Cerama Seal and Miricle 511.
