Q:Asbestos ceiling tile?
I'll stick my head out and say no that does not contain asbestos, it is a standard 600x600 mineral tile which you can still buy now. I am an asbestos consultant with 10 years experience and that type of tile would not usually be tested as it is well known not to contain asbestos. Ignore the answer which says take to a hardware store, if you ever did that with an asbestos ceiling tile you would probably end up causing yourself massive problems and exposing people.
Q:Wood or Tile in my master bath?
I would suggest Tile. I honestly do not think that Wood is the best choice because there will be a lot of water on the floor most of the time so it could harm the floors.
Q:ceramic tile over linoleum?
You should remove the linoleum before putting down the ceramic tile. You can tile over the linoleum, but you need to make very sure it is fully stuck to the concrete, cleaned very thoroughly and etched so the thin-set has something to stick to. It's a small area? Remove the linoleum.
Q:Tiling a kitchen back splash?
Most thinsets are not recommended for drywall. They won't stick, but a latex modified thinset will. I would use the mastic. If you do go over the drywall it's a good idea to sand it lightly to remove any glossiness from the paint. You also need to degrease the wall. Backerboard is good but not really needed if the drywall is sound and flat.
Q:installing hexagonal tile?
You have to glue them in net tape (special net for patching dry wall) In scale of 12x12 or 6x6 ,let them stick well then apply thin-set 1/8 thick in floor and install tiles set next to each other. To make them even, every three set tiles that been installed ,put pressure by one plywood or a level board on top .Let them dry for min 48 hours then make a liquorish grout and splash it in tiles then by a sponge or plastic mup(use for window cleaner) apply grout in all area till cap between tiles fill completely .After 2 hours clean extra grout on tile by a vet sponge or rug .let till grout dry as well (min 24hours) then apply grout sealant to get shiny and est able grout .Then you have it.
Q:how much does it cost to istall cermic tile with labor and material?
Tile labor varies a bit from area to area, but you can figure in the $7 a s/f range for basic labor , thin set, grout and 1/2 cement board , which is generally need when installing over the common wood sub floors. Tile isn t figured in this price since a plain , average or discontinued tile can go from $1 a s/f to a very nice tile in that size at 4$ a s/f Extras such as rip out/ disposal and any floor prep isn t included either. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q:How much to re-tile a bathroom?
I don't know where your from and prices varies Tilers charge per square yard. find out with your measurements what the square yard is. be it.. 20 , 25 i don't know. then ring a tiler and ask him how much they charge per square yard. multiply their answer with your answer. that's your price. in Ireland it's €15 per s yard so...... (10 sy X €15 = €150) remember when measuring that you subtract the windows and doors as tilers should not include this in price. also count your bags of adhesive as tilers steal the left over stuff thats not needed. I know this because I am one.
Q:Outdoor decking with tile?
Not to mention it will get very slippery after a time. See pool care products for cleaners.
Q:are there tiles in your house that are unlevel?
Having the tiles uneven on a new installation is not right. Couple reasons to cause this and should have been caught by the installer. They are more than likely not loose but since they are uneven, your more than likely to chip the edges over time. Get the installer back and have it fixed. Tile should be perfectly flat. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Any suggestions/tips on installing ceramic tiling??
A quality tile saw will make things easier but understand going in that tile saws use water and make one hell of a mess. Plan to do your cutting outside (I speak from experience). Also expect that this job will take a LOT of time to complete. Plan your layout so that there are no tiny or thin slivers of tile where the walls meet the floors. Unless there's a good reason to do otherwise, be certain that your layout lines are perfectly parallel with the longest wall and are perfectly straight. You'll need a notched trowel (available widely and cheaply) to smooth out the adhesive/mortar. You'll need to be sure your subfloor is level, smooth and very clean. If it isn't smooth AND level, ask an expert for advice on how to correct it BEFORE you begin. If you are going to leave a space between tiles, you WILL need spacers (available at Lowe's, Home Depot and every hardware store). Above all, TAKE YOUR TIME. Tile is not a job to rush. You will look at this floor many times a day, every day for many years. The final result will be no better than the time and attention you devote to it. Most big box hardware stores have occasional classes in varying trades. Taking a tile class can't hurt.
