Q:We are renovating our bathroom and I don‘t want to take out the existing vanity just update it, we were considering tiling the countertop, can we go right over the existing laminate or should we remove the whole counter top, or is it possible to just take off the laminate?
I tiled over the laminate in my kitchen by sanding the laminate with coarse sandpaper....priming with oil-based kilz-it and then tiled and grouted. It's still in the kitchen for over 7 years. You could also remove the countertop from the cabinet and replace with 1/2 plywood topped with 1/4 cement board but you would have to cut out the whole for the sink. Tiling over it is much easier. Just figure out your tile layout. I used 12 tiles for my custom countertop in my bathroom.
Q:I like the original quarry tiled floor from our 60‘s kitchen, but they are quite badly stained. I can‘t pretend they have any historic value, or even were particularly well laid, so on balance should I1) Replace with new tiles, perhaps up to a higher standard2) Get a specialist to restore them to something approaching their original stateWhich will cost more, and what would you do?
Quarry tiles are made from unrefined extruded, high silica alumina clay that gets pressed into the desired form and hard burnt. They are hard and durable but have a softer composition than ceramic tiles. It is an unglazed form of tile, which comes in a natural colour selection, red, brown and beiges. A good and cheap place to start is to try using raw linseed oil. This will usually remove most of your tough stains. You want to be careful about using acids on real quarry tile because they are very porous and acids could etch your tiles permanently. If the linseed oil doesn't do the trick then a more expensive alternative would be using Lithofin Victorian Tiled Floor Restorer and a good sealer is HG Golvpolish. You should be able to get these from good tile retailers. If the tiles are laid on earth, or on a lime bed on earth, they should not be sealed as they need to breath to avoid damp being trapped. The original tile finish was a clear oil and of course this still allows the tile to breath. Try Slate Dressing from a fireplace shop, this is colourless and will give a richness to the tiles.. Hope this helps.
Q:Hello,Trying to decide on tile for living area. What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain tiles? What price is reasonable for installation of the tile?

Q:I hava a 12x12 ceramic tile that we want to hang on the wall (not permanently). The tile has no hooks or anything in it. What‘s the best way to hang it?
buy a pack of stick-on wall hooks from your local home store, Use the double sided foam 'tape' that comes with them. Make sure they're the kind with a tab that you can pull to release the tape.

Q:6 blocks, 12 mirrors, 3 white tiles.
you could make L shaped 'legs' (four) the same heoght with the glass blocks. turn the open parts toward the center, corners out. place the mirror on a piece of plywood, and frame the mirro with tile to make, coffee table, end table, sofa table, night table varying the design only by lengths and widths. You could make a set. Also take five mirror tiles and four 12 pieces of lumber. adhere a tile to two pieces of wood and set to dry, do it again, so to let two dry at a time. when dry, stand upright as ends of a cube use two tiles to complete the cube and set a fifth one on top for a mirror cube. Raise the mirror cube using glass blocks, as before. Cut a piece of 4x4 wood the lenth of the floor to ceilng and screw to a wall and tile with the white tiles to create architectural interest in a room. Build a column of wood, 12 x4 and use mirror on one side and tiles on the end to create a room dividing pice of art that uses the light in a room to trick the eye and increase it's size. With the prpoer nearly clear silicone you can create a column of glass blocks and light it from inside with christmas lights.
Q:How to effectively remove the glue marks on the tiles?
4, in the removal of the time, whether it is to use to light water or vinegar, be sure to make these supplies completely soaked double-sided adhesive marks, can be easily and effectively remove Oh! 6, with soap plus a little ammonia and turpentine mixture , Can remove many dirt and make the glass surface more shiny (this article applies to tiles, ceramics, glass, etc.). 7, with a good sticky transparent glue repeatedly tear, you can remove some of the surface 8, with a little letter of sodium water on the wipe off, or paint can be thin .9, with a cotton swab dipped in water to wipe. 10, wind oil fine wipe. 11, use a special cleaning agent or sports shoes to remove the cream wipe.
Q:I want 12x12 tiles on the floor of the bathroom. But on the countertop (small, less than 6sqt) should I do large tiles, or smaller tiles of a similar style? And for the backsplash, should it be the same as the counter or the floor? Not so good with the design aspect. :)
All your tile selections should co-ordinate but do not need to match exactly. I like the big tiles on the floor but not on the counters and back splash. The large tile will make those areas seem out of scale. I'd go with a similar tile but in a smaller size on the counter and back splash and see if you can find some accent tile to work into your design of the back splash. All it takes is a band of something like natural stone, glass tile or a textured tile to kick it up a notch and by using the more expensive tile sparingly, you're not increasing your costs but certainly increasing the eye appeal.
Q:Want to put ceramic tile floor down in bathroom. It has a lanolium floor now. What is the best way to prep, in order to have a good tile job.
Hi, you need to pull the linoleum up first. Than scrape the loose mastic off the floor, sand it (you don't want an uneven surface) and wipe up the dust and dirt. Than you can start putting down your tiles. Make sure you leave a window open or the smell of the mastic will leave you high as a kite, and you don't want that! Bye
Q:I purchaced this tile in 2003 fromThe Tile Shop. I had an incident occure which led me to look for 5 more tiles. I was told by The Tile Shop that they were discontinued.
