Q:Cutting holes in porcelain tile?
When okorder.com/
Q:Why did my porcelain tile crack around my toilet?
jac...dee, there are several reasons the tile could have cracked, but I wouldn't categorically state that the tile cracked around the toilet because you put tile over linoleum. It just depends on how stable the linoleum was when you put the tile over it. I've have tiled over lino and and it's going on 5 years without any problem. So, if the lino was in good condition, that's not the problem. I'm wondering if maybe you applied too much pressure by screwing the toilet screws down too tightly. It's a common mistake. You should only snug up the toilet screws and not over-tighten. You could cut out the linoleum around the floor in the area of the lino as someone else suggested. But if it's in good condition and lays flat, it shouldn't be a problem. Still, to be safe, maybe cut it away but then add a bit more mortar to ensure the tile is the same height as the rest of the tiled floor. Still, I would avoid tightening the toilet too tight. Only snug! good luck
Q:My Kitchen floor is covered w/ vinyl sheets and it is wood underneath. can i put tiles on wood instead?
You can do either, but as one person mentioned, there is a possibility that the old linoleum is backed with a material containing asbestos. Just lay the cement on top of the vinyl, leveling as you go. Another advantage to this method is that you might decide you want wood floors at some point and you might ruin it if you apply the new tile to the wood.
Q:Tiling Floors and Counters. Same or different tile?
All your tile selections should co-ordinate but do not need to match exactly. I like the big tiles on the floor but not on the counters and back splash. The large tile will make those areas seem out of scale. I'd go with a similar tile but in a smaller size on the counter and back splash and see if you can find some accent tile to work into your design of the back splash. All it takes is a band of something like natural stone, glass tile or a textured tile to kick it up a notch and by using the more expensive tile sparingly, you're not increasing your costs but certainly increasing the eye appeal.
Q:Installing peel and stick tiles?
I agree that real tile can be nearly as cheap as peel and stick, but much more attractive. Its a lot harder work though! Peel the old ones up. I stuck sticky tile over old sticky tile in my laundry room and now the pattern of the old tile is starting to show through.
Q:Can you paint tile?
i think if u paint it...it may look worse... just save up some cash and get new flooring
Q:Pinting over tiles?
After thousands of sq. ft. of tile, and thousands of gallons of paint, (not together) and with all due respect to you and others; this is kind of like a CAN I? question. Tile is essentially glass. Certainly you CAN probably paint over, but may never truly be satisfied with the result, especially over any long term. Also with no offense at all, and not needling you over a misspelling, I had to chuckle at Pinting. I've probably done a lot of that too, and in fact probably while on or over tiles. Steven Wolf
Q:tiling with 16x16 tiles in kitchen that is 14x22?
Is the floor really straight, clean, and rigid? If so, thin set is better. How about a water or vapor barrier? Watch some of the Holmes on Homes shows from Canadian TV. He works in the Toronto area and is the best. Everyone kids him because his motto is :Make it right!. Shows #54, 72 and 67 might help.
Q:How to use ordinary drill drill on the tiles to hang things hanging?
Yes, with a special drill (tile needle) is very easy to be able to drill eyes
Q:how to measure and install ceramic tile counter tops and back splash?
Yes you do get tile cement that will stick to smooth surfaces. You can all so rough the surface up with a coarse sandpaper. You do get a bonding liquid that you apply before you put the tile cement it helps with the bonding. Just make sure the counter top isn't flexible because that can cause problems All so make sure when you fill the tile joins with grout that it fills it good and make sure your grout is water resistant
