Q:I‘m having a small bathroom remodled. The floor isn‘t perfectly rectangular, there are some uneven areas because of the tub. I would like the opinion of a profession tiler (should there be one put there, somewhere)...should the floor tiles always be centered, or start lined up against a wall? Also, should the grout be completely dry before sealing it? Thanks.
In regards to sealing grout, many grouts, like TEC Power Grout, never need to be sealed to maintain stain resistance. You can get TEC Power Grout at Lowe's. For the tile layout, start tiling at the end of the room and work your way out. At the end of the room, find the center point, and do a dry lay out of your tile from the center point to the wall. You want to have at least 1/2 a tile at the wall, although it looks better if you have a full tile along the wall. You also want to have a full tile at the entrance because it looks nice that way. You may need to adjust your dry layout and cut tile with a wet saw so that your tile can fit the space. Good luck!
Q:I am installing 4x4 ceramic tiles on a shower wall. I have been using a 1/4 x 1/4 sq. notch trowel, but am having trouble with the tiles staying put...should I use a 3/16 x 5/32 v-notch trowel instead?
Sorry guys wrong. You need to use a 1/4 x 1/4 square notched trowel. You will not get enough coverage on a v notch trowel. Those trowels are for a mastic( non wet area) and mosaic tiles..
Q:i have a tile back splash that runs all along my counter including behind my sink and behind my stove. it is a small 1 tile, and i‘m pretty sure it‘s original to the house (40‘s) so it‘s getting kinda grimy. no matter what i do to clean it, it‘s so tough, because of kitchen grease and splatter. the grout isn‘t sealed so it absorbs stains. i keep seeing people say sprinkle baking soda on tile, let it sit, and then clean with vinegar, which would be great if this was a floor, but its a wall, so if there are any solutions, that would be great. natural preferred. i really don‘t want to replace this. painting it is an option, so suggestions on paint for tile would be appreciated as well.
magic erasers are great for this sort of thing. if it's ceramic tile they sell this stuff that works really good call tile guard. use apply a thin coat to the entire area (grout included) let it dry and wipe off with a damp sponge. this also is a good way to clean your grout. regardless if it's on the floor or being used as a backsplash.....I wouldn't suggest painting ceramic tile if doesn't work and the paint won't stick.
Q:Laying 225 Sq ft of 18x18 tile on flat slab. Using Ultraflex II thinset (white) w/ 1/16 spacers. Cannot find a 3/4 trowel to apply just to floor...can I use 1/2 sq notch trowel if I apply to floor and back of tile as well when I set them???
luke has you covered, I'd lay one let it set up I have had natural stone change color after being put in a bed of thin-set
Q:I have a few ceramic tiles on my kitchen backs plash that do not match my new kitchen color. Can I paint them? If so, how? Thank you.
Hi all, your question is quite intrusting in my opinion yes you can paint the ceramic tile but before painting on it first see the tile that the tile is not wet or if you want more information I search a web on net I think it will help you this web tell all about different types of tile, marbles and ceramic so if you were interested visit the website which is given below.
Q:We‘re putting in new porcelain tile floors in the kitchen and bathroom. Should the tile go under the refrigerator? Should tiles go in before or after the new vanities in the bathroom? Any other general tips for a first-time tiler?
Like most all other said, tile under the fridge , waiting a few extra days before replacing such a heavy item..The bath vanity can go either way but if its down after , it s a much cleaner look to have it set atop the tile. Plus you don t have to have grout up to and have it cracking where it meets the vanity ( it will)...Now one thing I can t pass up.. Porcelain IS NOT a natural product . It DOESN t need to be sealed prior to or after. This is a man made product , fired just like ceramic but a much better quality most often.. Seal grout after the proper time after grouting with a penetrating sealer.. Any flooring question ( especially tile) e amil me through my avatar and check my qualifications there
Q:I am ready to tile a kitchen island, it has the rough shape of HOME PLATE, though not pointy. What is the best way to cover those odds angles effectively? Should I butt two edge tiles together? Also, I am not fond of the 16th inch spacing in tiles, I prefer 1/4 in gaps...any issues for the top of counter. The sides will be 1/8th gap.AdamDeridder,La
How About....... you use the big tiles all in the middle and make a pretty mosaic from pieces (or those tiny tiles that match the other tile) all around the edges or where ever it is difficult to cover. OR....just be creative and mosaic the whole thing!! Not an expert just obsessed with DIY and HGTV etc....
Q:I‘m going to be putting in a tile floor in my kitchen (all cabinets and appliances removed). I have done my research and have a good idea of what I will be doing - beef up the subfloor with plywood and lots of screws for rigidity; use cement based self leveler to correct a mild slope; install backerboard or decoupling membrane (not sure which yet) followed by the tile.I have a plan, but plans tend to fall apart after their first run-in with reality. Has anyone run into types of problems they don‘t talk about on DIY network? The types of problems complete the following kinds of sentences: are you f***ing kidding me? You have to do ____ before ___? or dammit, why don‘t they tell you you need [insert name of specialized gadget] on a product that cures in 10 minutes? or boy was I an idiot for doing/not doing [insert critically important but not obvious tiling procedure here].?Much obliged, and thanks for the responses.
Before okorder /. You'll find video tips about tile installation as well as lots of useful information especially if you're installing kitchen glass tiles. Good luck!
Q:What is the probability that the two faulty tiles share an edge?
The number of ways you can select a position for the first tile is 64. The number of ways to position the second tile is then 63. So, the total number of ways to position 2 tiles is 64*63= 4032. But, since it doesn't matter if tile #1 and #2 are switched, you have to divide this by 2 (at least, if the tiles are all the same). That gives you 2016 different ways. The number of ways you can place a pair of tiles (so that they share an edge) is just the number of ways you can tile the pair horizontally plus the number of ways you can do it vertically, which for a square will be the same. So, twice the number of ways to tile the square horizontally is 2* (4+3)*8. The 2 is because we are taking twice the number, the 4 is the number of ways you can do it starting at one edge, the 3 is the number of ways starting one tile in, and the 8 is the number of horizontal rows. The total is 112. So, there are 112 of the 2016 total ways where the tiles share an edge. This makes the final probability 112/2016.
Q:Toilet tile size
Tiles are generally used 300 * 300 The wall to see your bathroom area and your personal preferences to set Wall tile general specifications are 200 * 300,250 * 330,300 * 450,300 * 600 ???? If the bathroom area is relatively small, the use of 200 * 300 or 250 * 330 specifications of the wall, but 200 * 300 specifications are now very few people, if it is decorated to rent the use of 200 * 300 specifications, the use of their own homes 250 * 330 specifications ???? Toilet area in general or relatively large can be used 300 * 450 specifications or 300 * 600 specifications ???? 300 * 450 specifications is now the conventional specifications, the general use of more, if the bathroom area is relatively large and want to decorate some of the higher, you can use 300 * 600 specifications imitation marble wall
