1. Environmental Friendliness

2. Heat-shielding Performance

5. Fireproof Performance

- Q:making a counter top from spare tile pieces
- Prep your counter to meet tile standards, Each one can be different so with out knowing what yours is I cant say there. You ll need to figure what you want to do with the edge to trim it out. You can use a tile bull nose or a wood trim. Spread the needed glue, usually a thin set , over a small area. Then you can break tiles , ( very carefully) with a hammer or a pair of tile nippers. I use tile nippers to create the piece effect. These methods are called rubble effect. You ll need a honing stone to hone the tile edges so they are not sharp. Set into the wet glue, don t let it skim over or become dry. Grout as needed depending on what type of tile you use. - Q:Has anyone every used Ceramic Tiles to re-do bathroom floors? I‘ve seen it done on HGTV but just wanted to knw if it was really that easy?
- It's NOT that easy. I'm a contractor and I do ceramic. Depending upon your skill level, you might be able to do it, but for a bathroom floor, I recommend letting a tilesetter do it. Bathroom floors take a lot of abuse from heat and water and this is a job you want done right. Depending on the size of your bathroom, you should be able to get a nice tile job for a few hundred dollars
- Q:I live in a single-level ranch style house but on a concrete pad. I am re-tiling the kitchen floor. Upon removing the old tile, I discovered a 15 lb. felt pad had been glued to the floor; on top of this pad was thin set; then the tile. I live in Bakersfield, CA which is a dry and arrid climate.
- No vapor barrier required but clean the cement floor and seal it. If not level use thin-set to level out. Don't forget to seal your grout and tiles if directed by the manufacturer. This has to be done annually. Avoid harsh detergents as they will yellow your tile and follow manufacturer's directions on cleaning.
- Q:The people who owned my house before me tiled the kitchen floor with slippery ceramic tiles (like the ones on your bathroom walls) and the slightest couple of drips of water create a truly hazardous situation. Is there anything you can buy to make such a floor non-skid without making it look hideous ?
- If okorder /... and cut in to appropriate shapes for the kitchen such as pots, pans, rolling pins etc. This would solve the issue and give the kitchen floor a unique look. Hope that helps!

- Q:What‘s the average cost to install tile baseboards? I‘m replacing my wooden baseboards with tile and was just wondering what an average price to just do the baseboards with tile. I have roughly 1500 inches of floorboard that is going to be done and I am looking to use 20 X 20 inch tile. No bullnoseing or anything special, just cut the tile and install.Thanks
- Michael G makes a good point. If it was me, the price would be more like $750+, because I'd have to cut the tile, and do layout, apply it, then grout it. the top edge grout is a real pain, and poses the biggest challenge to get it right. Most customers always seem to find fault in that one issue. Of course, If I was doing the whole job instead of just the base tile, that price would be more reasonable, being factored in with the overall job. a Comment to the other poster: A lot of people prefer tile base to wood/paper (most base is hard paper nowadays), simply because of water or liquid spills that can affect drywall and baseboards. by using a tile base, this makes the wall less likely to suffer as much damage as could occur without it in place. Besides, most tile bases compliment the tile floor job, and colors. Likewise, I get a lot of callbacks because customers, after looking at tile base for a while, want me to come back in and set tiles up the wall, which means less wall maintenance issues, no need to paint, mold is less likely to form and become an issue, and people sitting in a chair with the heads against the wall is less likely to smudge it, as well as kid issues with markers and crayons.
- Q:I had asked the guy I am seeing to go somewhere with me tonight and he said he had to prep the floor before laying the tile? He has been working on a flooring job, but what do you do to prep a floor? Is this the same whether with tiles or hardwood?
- You need to put down rock board before the tile, unless it is a cement floor then you need to make sure it is clean and level. If it isn't level you can purchase some leveling material to pour and smooth over the floor. As for hardwood? There is an underlayment for hardwood, you can use the manufacturers product or just use 30lb felt paper (roofing felt)
- Q:ok, I am grouting my ceramic tile in my kitchen and I sponged the tile when I was done and waited for everything to dry. I buffed the dry grout off of the tiles and I noticed that there is dry grout on the tiles and I can‘t get it off. Is there anything I can buy to take the grout off of the face of the tiles before I seal them? Please help.
- Try using a sponge with a scrub pad on one side. It won't be easy to get off but it should do the trick. Elbow grease is the main component. They make a product that is supposed to help removed excess haze left by the grout so that might help as well. I'm hoping you used glazed tile because it's generally a good idea to seal porous tile before grouting, once the grout gets into the actual tile, it's a REAL pain to get off.
- Q:Tile setters? I paid someone to tile my bathroom floor using the 1 in hex tiles meshed together in 12 x 12 in pieces. Ive seen that type of tile done before and it each tile looks evenly spaced. The tiles he installed for me look like they were installed in 12 x 12 pieces as the perimeter of the meshed tiles has much wider grout lines than the interior. He says its normal and it happened because the floor is uneven but he installed the hardybacker himself so he should have leveled it.
- You are not being unreasonable. The 12 by 12 mesh backed 1 inch tile should not show a larger grout line at the edges than they do in the center. All grout lines should be equal. Your tile guy is not being honest with you. I'd try everything, including Judge Judy, to get him to tear it out and do it again. Good luck!
