Q:cost of fixing thermostat or water pump?
Like most answerer's, I agree. The task is easy if it is the thermostat that is the prob. You could even do this yourself, if you are so inclined. But if it is the water pump, though the part may not cost much (depending on make and model of vehicle), almost the whole front of the engine will need to be removed to get to the water pump. No matter who does the work for you, also ask them to look at your radiator hoses (top and bottom), too. Many times, when a thermostat has stuck or a water pump has failed, the hoses get stressed and if they're not at least looked at, and ok'd...could be the cause of your next problem. Another thing to have checked is all your belts. Most vehicles nowadays have only one belt (serpentine belt) that runs everything, older vehicles have a few belts. All of these belts will have to be removed if the water pump is replaced, so have them looked at when they are off the vehicle, just in case. Talk you your friends to find someone who could do the repairs for you, either a shop or a shade tree mechanic. The whole job shouldn't take more than an hour or two, depending on vehicle and ability of mechanic. Sorry we're not local or it would have been fixed already.
Q:how hard is it to replace a water pump on a 1992 jeep cherokee larado?
With either engine your jeep cherokee would have a 2.5 or 4.0. Both have the same pump, and the 2.5 would be easier because you would have more space from the smaller engine. But there not hard to replace. A repair manual would be help full if you have never replaced a water pump before.
Q:2001 Intrepid 2.7, water pump & timing chain?
I also own a 2001 Intrepid and recently had a water pump go bad which also broke my timing chain. The pieces of aluminum you found are probably valves or valve springs from the head. Mine broke every vavle and spring on one head when my engine jumped time and a few more on the other head that is probably what your seeing. Also you don't want to check for compression by turning the crank manually. It is an expensive job to fix but the cars are great but I wouldn't spend too much on them because they only go for about $3000-3700 in great condition nowadays. Good Luck
Q:What water pump do I have to buy to increase the water pressure of the shower?
Before you go to the expense of installing a pump to boost pressure, be sure that you don't have a water VOLUME problem. Buy a pressure gauge (about $20) and connect it to your outside hose bib. If your pressure is about 40 psi, then you don't have a pressure problem. If you live in the USA, the Feds (aren't you glad they're looking out for you?) have mandated that no more than 2.5 gallons per minute can flow out a shower head. That's not much volume. So, I would look for a restriction device in the shower head. If the device is part of the shower head, you can't do anything about it specifically. Compare it to a garden hose and a soda straw with 60 psi water pressure. The soda straw won't provide the volume of water that a garden hose would provide. It would seem that the soda straw has less pressure, but it does not. Normal residential water pressure is on the order of 40-60 psi (I have 85 psi). But if new construction continues in my neighborhood, my pressure will decrease because more demand through a fixed size pipe means lower pressure..
Q:What are the quota items for the complete pump installation?
Pump installation / anchor bolt installation anchor bolt hole, fill oar vibration cushion installation
Q:do i really need to replace my water pump?
Ohhh I used to do that. My radiator hose had a hole in it and it would leak. I'd refill my anti freeze once a week. One day 10 minutes before I got out of work I started my car to warm it up. When I get out of work I come to see that anti freeze is all over the ground and my engines smoking big time. I refilled it and drove a quarter mile to the mechanic and it all spilled out on my way their too lol. My hose ruptured is what happened(hole got bigger). I say don't press your luck and go replace it.
Q:What is the maximum absorption hight for a water pump?
It depends on the pump characteristics. It has its suction and discharge head limitations.
Q:wheel came off..serpentine belt came off...new water pump?
400 okorder.com and the water pump replacement was 273 to 322 dollars. I could not find a price for the water pump belt and the tension-er pulley that is usually replaced then too but piece wise I think the shop is not trying to hose you. Its always good to pay attention however. anytime you lose a belt like that, shut off the car it can overheat quickly and blow a head gasket or worse the motor. Some people just do not understand that when a catastrophic failure occurs and you lose several important functions all at once park the car until it gets fixed. Repairpal takes a bit of getting used to when first trying out, but it can give you some price guides that are right on the money when you are not sure what the mechanics are telling you. good luck pay attention.
Q:are high volume water pumps better on a engine or will it cause damage?
IT is normal for the engne to WANDER AROUND the 180 degree temp! if the engine does NOT BOIL OVER, then things are FINE! COOLANT boils as you know at about 212 degrees, and it may take the COOLING FAN longer to TURN ON! BASICALLY< if the engine does NOT BOIL OVER< then everything is JUST OKAY! USUALLY chrylsers run on the COOL side GOOD LUCK!!
Q:Replace Water pump, big noise came out, then jump time and engine died?
You have a good case for small claims court, but you'll have to prove the facts in court, not here on yahoo. 1) Prove that the first shop changed your water pump. (I think there's a good chance that mechanic did, indeed, mess up the timing.) 2) Get something in writing from any subsequent, licensed mechanic who thinks the timing was changed. At 100,000 miles, there's a fair chance your timing chain could have been old, needing replacement, but if the first guy replaced the water pump, that seems the likeliest culprit. Worse, I hope you didn't ruin the motor. Sometimes when your motor is out of time, you can bend a valve or put a hole in the piston. Better get your motor checked by someone who knows what they're doing then consider your options- small claims or the first mechanic's insurance company. If you talk to the insurance company, you should have a lawyer do the talking. Good luck!!
