Q:I'm looking for a particular article in a 'Better Homes and Gardens' mag. from sometime in the mid '50's
my recommendation is to call the magazine directly
Q:Does anyone know a home remedy to repell cats from a garden/flower bed?
I don't know a home remedy...but I do know that stores sell things that repel cats. Also, kitties don't like strong smells....that's why they tell you to put vinegar around your x-mas tree.
Q:POLL: The kitchen table, the couch, the bed, etc. where is your favorite place at home to DO IT...?
Infront of the computer
Q:Are Anti-Mosquito\Mosquito Killer Sprays bad for plants & vegetables.?
Hello Moon, My name is Gardengail and I work for the home depot in the garden center. Spraying a plant with an insecticide meant for the air is not a good idea, check the instructions on the back. Malathion is a good mosquito spray that works well in gardens. Using a bug zapper would help extend the effectiveness of the spray. Are these mosquitoes biting you? there is a large bug that is called a mosquito hawk that looks like a mosquito that is common to lawns that is non-biting. Spraying vegetables with a spray not designed for them is a really bad idea. Check the labels on the backs of the bottles of spray you use. Also check for puddles and birdbaths, the mosquitoes will hatch within a few days, dump the water out. Hope this helps, Gardengail
Q:What are some blogs/magazines that showcase houses & gardens & buildings?
Better Homes Gardens, Sunset Magazine, Martha Stewart Living Magazine Coastal Living are all very good ones Visit a few garden sites, too, Spring Hill Nursery is my personal favorite. he architural BIBLE in the Archetecural Digest Magazine. (Bar none) Look for magazines that specilize in the typef of architecture of what you're looking for. Country Living is a good one. And do a google search for Engliisshj Country homes And English Country Gardens, Before you start spending money on plant material. puchase t Western Garden Book. It;s the best to assist you with plants and flowers that will grow best in your growing zone. They provide excellent photos of garden ideas, too.
Q:How can i not get bored with gardening?
I loved Science lab as a kid and so I use the garden as a big Science play ground. I experiment with different mulches - deciding which works best for which plant...etc. I also play and do things like decorate a scarecrow, or use some found item as a decoration. I put a plant where it shouldn't be - like a flower in with the onions. I have some raised beds and some flat ground. I also raise at least 1 new type of vegetable every year - this year it is orach. I'm still drinkin the parsnip wine from 2 years ago! I'm also an Indiana Master Naturalist that enjoys doing talks on Wild Edibles. That means I get to leave what some people call weeds grow in my garden for food. Makes a great excuse if you don't get a chance to weed! Play - get dirty enjoy. Find a young child to take with you - that always gave me a new look at the wonders in the garden.
Q:I want to start a vegetable garden at home but don't know how...?
Q:What's a good online tool for garden design?
I would go to a local nursery if it were me. They will often draw you a sketch especially if you are buying plants from them. In other cases, plants are set out in displays and by shade, sun, bush, perennial, annual, etc. Have fun.
Q:Secret Santa: gardening gift ideas?
I am an avid gardener and can give you some ideas. You could give her packets of seeds or perhaps a bag of bulbs or maybe a gift certificate to Brecks or Spring Hill bulb company. She may like a new gardening tool or a pair of gardening gloves. Maybe a nice flower pot or a little set of pots that can fit on a window sill. A book on gardening (one for her area) is a great idea as well. A gift certificate to a local nursery is a fine gift that will be well received, too.
Q:I need a 2 showerheads for our home bathrooms. Where can I find some online reviews?
