Q:What is the tile diagonal
Square tiles in the order of the first and third corners or the second and fourth corners connected to the length of the line, is the diagonal of the tiles. Not the four sides and so on
Q:We just bought an old house and the previous owners did a really poor paint job. I scratched off some paint on the tiles in the breakfast nook and the original tile looks really nice. I want to remove the rest of the paint without damaging the tiles.
Providing the tile you are discribing is a fired material, you can't hurt it with almost any chemical. Think of the glazed top of the tile as being a glass surface. An exception might be if the glaze has craze lines in the surface. Colors from paint spatters can find their way into these cracks and are almost impossible to get out. SO test the chemical in a small area first. Some paints will not be easily effected by thinners or mineral spirits .you may have to try Turpentine or equal. Acetone is stronger yet. It's the base for fingernail polish remover with a little oil smell good added. A small razor blade paint scraper is also handy. When using a razor make sure first that it dosn't leave a silver like scratch mark on the surface. This is the information that I found at the site below. I bought big bottles of cheap fingernail polish remover. Worked like a charm. I also used the finest grade of steel wool. And I used a plastic scraper so as not to scratch the surface. Hope this helps!! Have fun!!
Q:We are buying our first home and want to do some updating but are on a budget. We are not experienced in do-it-yourself home projects but would like to try.How simple or how difficult is installing carpet tiles? We know nothing about them really.
are you going for a solid look? (or using 2 different tones for a designed/patterned effect? please specify) a solid 1-tone look should be easy to achieve. anything else requires a little more planning ahead
Q:I have calculated that I need 388 tiles, each 9 inches big, how many come in one box?, I need to know how many boxes to order
you need 24.25 sq yds ..go to your tile shop ask how many sq yds are in a box ..divide that by 24.25 ..there's your answer ...if in uk thats 20.04 sq mtrs
Q:I‘m planning to tile up my space. It‘s a 27 square meters. I‘ve calculated the number of tiles. It will be around 140 to 150 pieces with extra tiles. How much or how many bags of tile adhesive will I consume for the 27 square meters space using 150 pieces of tiles? or What is the area a bag of tile adhesive could cover? Can you show me a computation.
You don t say what size tile it is and what your going over as far as a substrate. It makes a difference. Since I familiar with the coverage in s/f and your post suggests you came from the states I ll use a s/f format and some generalizations. Assuming you have a larger tile you should be using a larger notched trowel.1/4x3/8 but you may want to use a larger 1/2x1/2. I ll go off of a 1/4x3/8 trowel. A standard 50# bag of thin set will cover an area of 60/70 s/f using a 1/4x3/8 trowel. Splitting the difference and using 65 s/f per bag, divide 65 into the 290 s/f you have. Or 4.46 bags. So you ll need 5 , 50# bags of thin set using a 1/4x3/8 trowel. If your using a different size trowel , all bags have a coversion chart on the back to figure your coverage. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL

Q:Our kitchen has vinyl tile squares from the 70‘s for the floor. Underneath that is terrazzo (sp?) and nothing else. They are proving to be a massive pain in the butt to remove so I was wondering if we even really need to. They are very thin and very stuck. Can we just skip tearing them out and go ahead with the new ceramic tile install?
Even the thinnest vinyl tiles will allow some flexing will cause the tiles to pop off. You might be able to lay some cement backing board on the vinyl, you're going to have to put it down anyway.
Q:i just bought this house and my kitchen floor tile is all cracked it was put on a wood serfice. i need a quick fix because redoing the whole kitchen needs doing but is not in my bugit at this time. can i cover it with linoleum with out it also cracking before i can remodle?.
Sure. Lino does not crack(unless you give it 50 years of aging) But the lino on a roll is the best route to go. Not tile squares so much(you can do it that way but it is a bother).
Q:What is the classification of tiles, what is the difference?
Tiles are divided into floor tiles, wall tiles and waist tiles. Floor tiles: according to the color is divided into imitation Spanish bricks, glass polished tiles, glazed tiles, anti-skid tiles and seepage polished tiles. Wall tiles: according to the color can be divided into glass wall, printing wall tiles. Waist bricks: mostly printed tiles. In order to meet the specifications of the wall, waist brick is generally set to 60mm × 200mm format. Tiles according to the process is divided into: glazed tiles, quintana brick, polished tiles, tiles, ceramic tiles. Glazed tiles: Brick on the surface of a brick. This brick is divided into two categories: one is made of clay; the other is made with porcelain clay, the current home decoration about 80% of the buyers choose this brick for the floor decoration materials. Quintana Brick: This is a glazed porcelain tile that has good skid resistance and abrasion resistance. Generally speaking, "anti-skid tiles" are mostly quintana bricks. As this kind of brick price is moderate, popular consumer favorite. Polished tiles: the whole body after polishing polished polished tiles, this brick is very high hardness, very wearable. Tile: This is a kind of high temperature fired ceramic tile, is the hardest of all the tiles. Sometimes polished tiles are scratched when the tiles are still safe and sound. The Ceramic tiles: also known as mosaic, specifications, thin and small, hard texture, acid, alkali, wear, no water, strong pressure, not broken, colorful and versatile.
Q:i need help putting up counter tops and backsplashes.(tile)
I tile every day of my life, and might understand your confusion, but wonder of the type of HELP you need? On a countertop, my standard is 1/8th inch grout lines. Your issue depends in some part, on the size of the counter top and tiles you choose. Obviously on a floor, using 12 x 12 tiles, IF you went with a 1/8 grout line, you add an inch in floor measurement...loss/gain, for every 8 tiles set. Most effective for a backsplash and counter face is to include Bullnose and the reverse of that (the name escapes me) for where the counter meets the splash. The substrate should be molded to conform, but with adequate prep, you could fill. Certainly an ideal is for a counter top substrate to be exacly large enough to accomodate tile sizes, and grout lines, with no cutting. That's a rare occurance, unless it was preplanned. AND again depends on tile size. 2, 6, 9, 12, etc. and shapes in tile, IE: Octagonal Im my kitchen, my counter tops are 24 inches deep, to the wall. Using a 1/8 grout line, I'll have cuts to make, no matter the size of the tile, unless I find some that aren't exactly as stated. (Undersize) Glad to add if you wish, but wonder what type of Help exactly, you need. Steven Wolf
