Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length.It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation.The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Aluminum foil is calendered by aluminum. Melting point: 660.37. Ignition point: 230℃. Since the boiling point is 100℃, the maximum temperature does not far exceed 100℃. Thus the maximum depends on the thickness of aluminum foil and sticking agnt.Fiberglass tape is also high temperature resistant. It can resist high temperature of 200℃ while the typical aluminum tape only -40℃-120℃.
Q:which is a better insulator, vinyl or aluminum siding?
Both sidings insulate just fine but, there're some minor differances between the two materials....vinyl siding doesn't rust as aluminum siding does when paint is gradually lifted off by the elements over the long run but, vinyl siding does stains, and it does stains in a bad way, non-washable if the stain on the material penetrates, not even a pressure washer will clean these vinyl sidings if they're stained with chemicals or environmental stains. Good Aluminum siding, in the other hand, does resists many stains and is washable but, since it's aluminum...it tends to fluctuate with temperature, it gets hot when it's hot and gets cold when it's cold, these fluctiuations do cause certain panels to buckle and crack on the edges...that's why many home owners have to replace these regularly. I personally prefer vinyl siding but, now that I said that...you decide!

What kills aluminum boats is galvanic corrosion, the tendency for every other metal any where near aluminum in salt water to eat it. I knew a famous aluminum ocean racer where people had to empty their pockets of loose change before going aboard, because stray pennies in the bilge would eat a hole thru the boat. No fairy tale. And if there is stray electrical current on or near the dock, the problem is ten fold. I would very very carefully scrape some growth off and hope you don't scape thru the plating. You very well might, so be prepared for an emergency haulout. You didn't mention how large the large boat is, but up to 45 feet or so, the plating probably wasn't much over 1/4 or 5/16th to start, so there's not a lot of room for galvanic action to make it literally paper thin. Depending on how much you are planning on sending, you should probably get a marine surveyor with an audio gauge...a portable Magic Thinghy that Measures Hull Thickness.....

In foil thermal blankets, the extremely thin amount of aluminum foil reflects radiated heat. That’s its purpose there. It does however conduct latent heat very well. In your oven at home, you can pick up a hot food item by holding only the thin aluminum foil. This is because the foil is so thin that even if the temperature is, say 400 degrees, the tiny amount of foil that your finger touches does not have enough total heat to burn you.

Thank you for pointing-out one of my favorite subjects in this forum. That aluminum receivers on most guns have many drawbacks. As another poster has said, they do make a substance called Aluminum Black. I have some of the stuff made by Birchwood Casey. Now for the very bad news. Like most liquid or paste quick-blue items, it does a really really crappy job. The finished product will look like something that a 5 year old did with finger paints. Ok, so you want to do it yourself and not spend a ton of money to have the aluminum parts refinished by a professional. I understand that, because I am tight with a buck myself. So this is how I would do it. Buy the Aluminum Black product. Then take some raw aluminum and practice your craft on it for awhile. Examine the results. While I will stand by my statement that the finish you encounter will not look perfect, you might be able to recreate something that looks like a crudely done case hardened finish...which would actually compliment the looks of a pint-sized SAA clone.

Improper controlling of roll shape or rolling pressure is too low; Uneven thickness of billet, bad flatness or shear wave. Winding shaft precision is not good and the sleeve is not round. Improper control of pressing roller pressure.
