Q:how do you resurface cement steps?
First check the quality of the cement, it may be inferior to construction standards. When you determine it is good, then you need to rough up the surface with a tool like a chisel to give the new surface a grip. Mix a screened sand with some portland at a 2 to 1 mix and trowel it on with a steel finishing trowel
Q:There's this movie I saw a while ago but I forgot the title. I don't remember what it is about either except that it is something about a crazy man and a haunted place I think or something like that and people are locked in dark underground basements and buried in wet cementI remember how the movie starts though: A little girl who was locked in an underground room and then there was wet cement being poured into the room. She screamed and then died. And then I think the rest of the movie was that happening to other people.Any help?
I watched this a few nights ago on On Demand (for free) and plan to watch it several more times if possible. The movie does open with a little girl sealed inside walls, then cement begins pouring in. The scene cuts away just as only her face is out of the muck~a very chilling moment!
Q:What is cement?
Calcium Oxide, Made by Roasting Limestone, , When Mixed with water and Air, It goes back to Calcium Carbonate, (limestone) to glue sand and gravel together to make concrete
Q:What would happen if the silica percentage is higher than 25% of the total weight of the Portland cement?
Allow me to qualify my answer first. When mixing cement water, in the process and as it dries hardens, air pockets tend to form inside the concrete. Air pockets are like those holes that are inside the cheese we see when we cut it. Concretes could also tend to form air pockets as it dries up firms up. Those air pockets could WEAKEN the concrete, because of the spaces inside. Now, the function of silicon dioxide is it minimize those air pockets tends to make concrete stronger.
Q:I recently had my braces removed and while looking in the mirror at my teeth, I noticed black discoloration on several teeth. Is this a common color of the adhesive they use or did my teeth somehow get massive cavities?
Orthodontic cement is clear hen they out it on and sort of whitish when it dries. So I have no idea what's on your teeth.
Q:The cement board now has holes, tons of marks, glue, bad wallpaper you name it. Can I place drywall over it in order paint it? I plan to replace the tile from the waist down but on the upper wall I want to paint. Any tips are appreciated.
You could replace it with drywall but use green board so it will fight moisture.I would also use paint for damp areas like enamel and be sure you have a fan so you do not get mildew or have paint lift from too much moisture. I wonder what you will do where the cement board meets the sheetrock ? Won't their be a difference in thickness ?
Q:what is composition of cement?
t depends on exactly what kind of cement you are referring to. Portland cement is the most common kind, and it has several types with slightly different compositions. There are four major compounds in cement and these are known as C2S, C3S, C3A C4AF, and their composition varies from cement to cement and plant to plant. Type 2 portland cement is cement that has been modified to have better resistance to sulfates - a great quality to have if the concrete you're making ends up being in contact with soil containing a lot of sulphur like in the Western part of the U.S. It about the same price as type 1, but has some other limitations. Here is the breakdown of its chemical makeup (by mass %): 51% - C3 S 24% - C2 S 6% - C3 A 11% - C4 AF 2.9% - MgO 2.5% - SO3 0.8% - Ignition loss 1.0% - free CaO The extent of chemical compounds in cement S no Compound Composition as % 1 C3S 48-52 % 2 C2S 22-26 % 3 C3A 6-10 % 4 C4AF 13-16 % 5 Freelime 1-2 %
Q:CURRENTLY HAVE LINOLEUM FLOOR HE SAID TO LAY CEMENT BOARD OVER THAT?? ALSO HAVE BASEMENT BATH (ON CONCRETE SLAB) SAID TO LAY TILE RIGHT OVER LINOLEUM W/ NO CEMENT BOARD
The tile guy was right on both counts. There is a product called Flex-Bond that will adhere ceramic tile to Anything. Don't waste your time tearing up old tile.
Q:We are having our bathroom remodeled at our apartment and while demolishing the walls and ceiling, powder like cement dusts have entered the walk-in closet and landed on our clothes. It looks as if we had a dust storm. Is it okay to just shake off the dusts and re-hang 'em? or do I need to wash them? The apartment is probably like more than 60 years old. I have no idea what they put in cements back in the days. :-(
They often used asbestos in cement products to make it more pliable and workable before it was prohibited as a additive. Those sparkly ceilings were about the worse offenders. Even if you have asbestos free dust, it isn't good to breath it. We aren't built to breath dust. When it gets in our lungs it often coats our insides. Usually it takes years to feel the effects. We have aleovea or air sacs that help in the gas exchange in our lungs. The dust can cause them to burst like balloons. The particles then fall down and destroy the next one. Finally you just suffocate. Smoking tobacco helps acerbate the problem. The dust needs to be removed. Watch the sunlight streaming in the windows. You will see little floaters called motes dancing on the beams. When you walk or move you will see an increase in their numbers. These are what is going into your lungs. Yes, take the clothes outside and beat the dust off them. Then wash them to remove the dust stuck to the fibers. Open the windows to help air out the dust that remains. The more dust that remains: the greater the risk to you. The dust is even more devastating to children. The younger they are the more lasting damage it can produce.
Q:Why does cement hardens when exposed with air and water?
Cement does not need to be exposed to air to harden. It can cure under water! This is why it's called hydraulic cement. Curing is one of the most important steps in concrete construction, because proper curing greatly increases concrete strength and durability. Concrete hardens as a result of hydration: the chemical reaction between cement and water. However, hydration occurs only if water is available and if the concrete's temperature stays within a suitable range. During the curing period-from five to seven days after placement for conventional concrete-the concrete surface needs to be kept moist to permit the hydration process. new concrete can be wet with soaking hoses, sprinklers or covered with wet burlap, or can be coated with commercially available curing compounds, which seal in moisture.
Our main products include calicium silicate boards, mineral fiber boards and T-grids.
