- Q:i have an amp (sony xm 2002gtr) that says it requires 4 gauge wire..but they cost $100+ and i have plenty of 8 gauge wires. can i use two 8 gauge wires as a substitute for one 4 gauge wire?and also, i have my capacitor grounded to unpainted metal of my car AND the ground port of my amp..is that incorrect?
- Two 8-gauge wires combined are equal to a 5-gauge wire, but that should be close enough for that amp. Make sure each wire has its own fuse near the battery; 40-amp fuses would be a good choice. If you capacitor is connected to ground, and your amp is grounded, then you don't really need a wire between the capacitor's ground terminal and the amp's ground terminal. It doesn't hurt anything, though. If the only ground wire at the amp is the one that runs to the capacitor, then you're better off connecting the amp ground directly to chassis metal.
- Q:You have a 3 foot wide wire, vs a .3 inch wire. They are equal length. There is 3 volts going through each wire, to power your 1 volt LED. So, would the 3 foot wide wire have less resistance ? I don't even think it would work.

- The only difference between ground wire and power wire is the color of the jacket. Otherwise it's identical. If you have leftover power wire, go ahead and use it for the ground. Just wrap some tape around the end so you can tell it from the power wire if you need to disconnect and re-connect the amp.

- In the U.S. it WAS called BX and is now called MC, standing for metallic clad. (If the lines are flex-able). This stuff was used to protect from damage. This is usually used in commercial applications, but is perfectly legal (if the proper connectors were used) in residential applications. It sounds like you are doing a remodel. If so, you will need a EXPERIENCED electrician to modify the runs for you. Don't let anyone tell you it is against code. It is simply overkill.
