Q:I would like information to use an automotive water pump to ( or possibly another device ) to pump water approximately 60 feet (20 meters) elevation from creek without electricity. I only need enough water for 25 chickens. So we are not talking about a households supply of water.
I agree, the bucket sounds like a better idea, but if you're intent on using a pump, try this. There are several manufacturers who make small (about the size of a coffee mug) portable pumps that hook to garden hoses, and run off of drill power. You can use a cordless drill, so you don't need power at the pump. The pumps are a few dollars, and available at most old fashioned hardware stores. Try Sears. I've also seen an old style hand pump fitted with a garden hose fitting. You can rig a bracket to hold the pump over the water, with the inlet in the water, and use muscle power to pump the water to your chickens. No idea where to buy it though. I hope that helps

Q:We recently fixed our stone water fountain, and now we're trying to get it working. THe pump we had was about 5 yrs old, and didn't work. We've tried to get a new one online, but it only had one inlet for the water to go into the pump, and that got clogged in a matter of about 5 minutes. Since our garden has many trees, it's almost impossible for us to keep the fountain 100% clean all the time to prevent clogging. Anybody know where to get a pump for a 15gal fountain, that has multiple inlets?
Alex - It's best to look for water fountain pump based on there GPH i.e. Gallon per hour ratings - this is the rating that show how many gallons of water is the pump able to recirculate in one hour. First answer to look for is the GPH rating of your original fountain pump. Also, most of the higher GPH fountains have several inlets, so that should not be an issue if you get a higher GPH pump. Just keep in mind that higher the GPH, higher the power consumption, and thereby, higher electric bills. Just look up the sources I am pointing out below and I am sure you would find a good fountain pump for your garden fountain.

These waterpumps do tend to go bad early - fault of crappy plastic impeller. Make sure to get a pump with a METAL impeller when you change it. They are available online. Also do the timing belt at the same time - saves you labor because you have it apart already to do the pump. Also you need to check out 2 forums:
Q:So, my husband and I bought a 1993 Chevrolet Corsica a couple of months ago. This weekend we took a trip that ended up being about 400 miles round trip. About 300 miles into our trip, the Check Engine light came on, but there was no noticable problem with the car, no overheating, no clanking or odd smells, the light went off about 2 minutes later. So we got it home, no problems whatsoever. My husband drove it to work this morning, and we were preparing to go to the store tonight in it, and we noticed a massive amount of radiator fluid under the car and the overflow bottle was empty. The leaking appears to be coming from the engine, and the antifreeze is running down one of the upper belts. Could this be a water pump problem? If so, what is the average cost to repair one (I know water pumps are relatively inexpensive, but we'll need to take it in to a shop). Does anyone have any idea? All replies will be greatly appreciated.
Check engine is probably indicating an emissions issue but it could have been overheating slightly. A leak at the top centre on the front of the engine (engine sideways so front is passenger side) is an indication of a failing water pump. What happens is the bushing wears and the seal can allow coolant past. This is a built in safety feature so you get fair warning of an impending disaster. It takes about 45 minutes but the shop will go by the book and charge 1 to 1.5 hours. They will also charge full retail on the water pump I'm not slamming repair facilities they have to charge these amounts or they just don't make money. You should have them replace the serpentine belt while they are at it. Expect to pay $250 to $350 including shop supplies like engine coolant and LocTite.

Q:I got a water pump replaced a few month back, ( i own a 95 Honda civic) i have a wierd muffled rattle coming from that part of my car, i was told by a mechanic that it sounds like a bearing is dried out, he says that it wont affect the water pump itself but the ratlle will remain ... is this true . . .
The pump will eventually start leaking because of the bearing. I would get it fixed. Better than overheating on the side of the road, and having to replace a head gasket, too.
Q:My truck has been over heating, and I cant figure out whats going on...the only thing that gets really hot is the upper radiator hose, and the radiator....I just noticed there was a plug unhooked from the water pump, what does that do? Or maybe it could be the thermostat? It just overheats, and when I park it, it wont start half the time, usually I can let it cool off and go, but sometimes it just dies and I have to let it cool off and jump it off.
Most likely the thermostat. If there is no leak that's most likely. That plug could go to the fan sensor, but I think F-150 fans were belt driven. More likely it goes to the temp guage. If you have an electric fan, check to see if it goes on.
