Q:What would be a good cheap insulation for a basement ceiling or wall?
fiberglass
Q:My studio apartment doesn't have an attic. A lot of the installation videos and articles I read online are about installing foil insulation a couple inches below the roof and above the room's ceiling. Does it matter if I install it under the ceiling (that is, the foil barrier is visible to me when inside the apartment)?Aesthetics isn't an issue. I don't mind seeing the foil. I just want to know if I can still achieve the same results whether or not I install above the ceiling. Thanks!
The foil would only radiate visible light back toward you, and fiberglass insulation ( or rigid polyisocyanurate panels covered with drywall) would create a barrier to keep the heat in your room. If just foil worked, you would assume no one would bother with installing 10 thick fiberglass to achieve an R-38 rating and spend thousands of dollars if a couple hundred of foil would do it.
Q:You would have chosen to join the huts?
Wooden houses in Europe and the United States is very popular, especially in North America, wood structure building system since 1830 has dominated. Each year, more than 90% of the new 1.5 million to 2 million houses in North America use wooden structural systems. Which lasted for centuries, the wooden structure of the building with its a series of superior characteristics, so that residents living in North America enjoy the world's highest standards of housing.
Q:I have a den that has 12inch acoustic ceiling tile that drips water sometimes when the weather is cool.I have checked and the attic above it is thoroughly insulated. The tile was installed on furring strips direct up against the fiberglass insulation, with no drywall in between the two, materials. The roof has ridge vents and the soffits, has perforated panels. There is also a 4 foot recessed fluorescent light in the center of the ceiling that looks like a week-end novice creation, that leaks cold air around it,a little. I have lived here for 10 years and have had this problem, the entire time. Two years I had the roof replaced thinking that it would solve my problem , because the ceiling was sprouting wet spots, randomly every where. What can I do about this madness?
Pay for someone to fix it. 10 years and you didn't bother to think about water damages. It's more than visual damage.
Q:What is the difference between basketball and PVC and their most suitable aspects?
PU is the abbreviation of Polyurethane, the Chinese name for the polyurethane referred to as polyurethane. Because only need to simply modify the formula, you can get different density, flexibility, rigidity and other physical properties. At present, has a large number of alternative glass fiber insulation materials, wood, traditional rubber products. Pu basketball feel good, wearable, but the price is expensive, better basketball like Spalding is made of PU or leather. Comprehensive pu basketball is better than pvc basketball.
Q:How about the whole closet
The closet can be divided into different functional areas, and the surface shape is simple, elegant, stylish, and more and more people will consider the home decoration elements at the beginning of the renovation.
Q:We have an area in our ceiling that had water damage a few years ago and we repaired it ourselves for a quick fix. We never got around to actually getting it professionally repaired, but had never had any issues so it wasn't something we were worried about. About 3 days ago we noticed that there was a hole, about an inch long, I'm the crease of the ceiling where it meets the wall in the same place we had repaired. We don't know if maybe there is a mouse in the wall chewing a hole, if the house finally settled to the point where it cracked our repair job, or if there is another answer. It appears that the holes are only in the drywall tape and not in the drywall itself. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be going on our who we could call in to inspect this?
I would suspect mold - esp. since moisture was a problem.
Q:I have a large attic with sloped ceiling which are covered with rolls of fiberglass insulation. I use my attic for storage and am up there frequently, and for long periods of time. I would like ideas on what material could be used to cover the exposed insulation, so that I'm not breathing in the fiberglass.Cost and easy installation is a factor. I do not want to put up drywall or any type of regular ceiling, because if there's ever a leak, I want to be able to access it easily. Some sort of lightweight material that comes in a roll that I would be able to install with a staple gun would be great - but not plastic, because I don't want to worry about condensation and mold building up in the hot summertime. All ideas are welcome, and if you know the price of the material you're suggesting, please include it in your answer. Thanks everybody!
Sounds like it's in the overhead, so sound board is cheap and easy to cut, and hang. It also adds a R-value of 2-3 and is fairly flame resistant.
Q:I wonder if there is fibreglass in it.It is easily scraped off, but creates dust from particles.I could remove it myself, but am wary of the dangers it might pose to lungs. There are no windows to the classroom. A student told me that it exacerbates his asthma. The schoolboard solution is to cover it up with a hanging tiledceiling. Is that reasonable? No money in education for removal, unless dangerous. Do I have any reason for concern?
If it is indeed dangerous, then it would have to be professionally removed. YOU would have to have the STATE come in and test the material. Renovation and Repair Contents Techniques for Protecting Occupants from Renovation Pollutants References and Resources Renovation is one of the major causes of poor indoor air quality (IAQ) in schools, and is often conducted while the building is occupied.
Q:I am doing some minor remodeling on a house. I wanted texture on the walls but didn't want to deal with the mess (and expertise required) of spray texture, so I'm creating a custom texture on the walls by hand using lite joint compound and a 12" taping knife. My question is: what do I do on the ceilings? Can I do the same thing on the walls, or will I kill my back (especially if it needs sanding). I've heard of people wrapping a small piece of plywood in plastic and using it to apply joint compound to the ceiling such that it creates little stalactites that you knock down after they have hardened slightly. That sounds difficult to get uniform across the entire ceiling. What should I do?
Texture done easy. Mix (I used sand texture) texture with water until it is 'paintable' then apply with a knobby roller. Done.
