Q:I am about to buy new carpeting for the family room. The current carpeting is pretty regular carpet, although I don't know what the technical details are. The problem is that my son gets so upset because his toy cars and trains don't roll very well on the carpet and he tends to try to put them on tables, etc. or the hardwood. The cars, etc. do pretty well on the area rug, which isn't too thick. I need suggestions for the type of carpeting to buy that would allow cars and such to roll. Is it looped carpet? I know ti's strange request. Thanks!
The carpet that you need for your son isn t really a very practical carpet for a family room. What your needs are is a low napped commercial level loop. It requires a 1/2 or 3/8 inch thick pad so it won t have the soft feel. It s like a berber but w/ real small tight loops .. Not a soft carpet but it ll do what you want for him. And it ll wear like iron so to speak.. Other than that , the lower the nap on the carpet the better play area for him. You can get low napped plushes and textured carpet and they ll be softer , it won t be quite as go for his needs, Maybe a lower looped berber but their prone to snags since they are a continuous filament fiber and if you get a snag ( from a truck wheel) and it get pulled or caught in the vacuum zipppp there goes a whole row e mail me if you have other carpet questions GL
Q:What is dornier carpet
It can be folded, or use below 30 degrees Celsius warm water with soft detergent to wash blanket surface. Size (CM), not easy to slip
Q:What is the best way to clean stains on a seagrass rug? These are from a cat throwing up hairballs. We have tried water, Oxyclean, baking soda, carpet foaming cleaner...Any remedies would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Sorry to tell yo uthat the stains are most likely permanent. Seagrass, by nature is a porous fiber. Hence the stains have penetrated the fibers in the rug, and have become inherent, just as a dye would. Your best chance would be to completely redye the rug. It may be cheaper however to buy another, and keep Puss N Boots in the other room.
Q:i want to knit or crochet a rectangular rug for my room not too big but not too small. ive looked on the internet but the ones i like are too hard and the rest are nothing but granny squares or look like over sized doilies =( please help me find classy yet kinda simple patterns.. pictures would help
I've okorder , and enter the search words Woven Woolen Rug, and it will give you the link to the episode of Knitty Gritty that it appeared in.
Q:For all carpet experts....I accidentally spilled bleach on a small section of carpet in my apartment. I cut out the affected area and tried to patch it with a piece from the closet but the colors dont match. How does the carpet dying process work? I called several places and they suggested I do it myself since they no longer do that sort of work.
Do you have a steam cleaner? If you do, fill the steam cleaner with water bleach steam clean the whole carpet. That should even it out. I'm interested to hear what other answers you get cause I had a friend spill red wine on my off white carpets that was what I was told to do. Good luck!
Q:The water that I am dumping out is beyond filthy. Is all of that dirty water really coming from the dirt in my carpet? I shampoo the carpets about every 6 months, and we don't even wear shoes in the house.
If the waste tank is clean, then you fill it up with dirt, you bet. I've been cleaning carpets about 5 years now. At the rate things are going, I will have cleaned my 1,000,000th sq ft sometime in October. Since most of this is hot water extraction and I use about 1 gallon per 25-30 sq ft, I have already seen well over 30,000 gallons of waste water and it NEVER ceases to amaze me how much filth and odor is in the water. I rinse the waste tank out a little between each job and completely at the end of the day because the stench from the vacuum fan exhaust (which is very high on a commercial machine) absolutely will gag you. If I do a dog urine job, the rest of the day customers complain about the odor because it has only been rinsed a little. Carpets, rugs and other household textiles are great filters and they absorb so much. People with hardwood floors think this is cleaner, not true, same dirt, less to trap it. Your carpet is doing its job. I professionally clean carpet for several customers every 90 days due to their allergy problems. While you just cleaned your carpet, I guaranty if I went over it again, I'd get even more. Then again, if I did it last week, then again this week, it would still get a lot of dirt out. If you want to get better effectiveness in vacuuming, get a CRI certified Gold vacuum cleaner. This will make vacuuming more productive, vacuum every 2-3 days too.
Q:I am putting in 2 subs in my car with a plate so the subs look like the back of the trunk. Problem is that my carpet has quickly deteorated due to my previous box and I want to replace it. I am going to cut out a plywood sheet to fix the bottom of the car then install the carpet on that. The plywood is going to have a hinge to swing it up so I can get to the spare tired + add extra support. I need to do this by saturday before the subs are installed. What thickness plywood should I use (Thinner is better for me and I am going to drill holes in it for weight reduction) and how do I install the auto carpet so it's smooth and looks nice. Thanks!!!
I would use 1/4 pegboard (already has the holes). It is stiffer than plywood. Attach the carpet with contact cement. Good luck.
Q:I have recently noticed that my cob's rug is rubbing slightly so I am going to buy her a Rug Bib to prevent this. She wears a 6'9 rug so what size would u recommend?
Hmm. A perennial problem is rug rubbing! First of all, look at the style of the rug and see if there is another style you could get. Some rugs are better for different shapes of horse than others. Horse and Hound did some articles on different types of rugs. Look them up on horseandhound .uk and go to archives. Also rub surgical spirits into areas that are already rubbing to toughen the skin and prevent sores. Also good to put on the saddle and girth areas of an unfit horse a few days before saddling him. I think from the length of the rug that he is a pretty large horse, so I would go for an extra large if he has a particularly wide chest, or large if his chest is not so wide. or measure him from shoulder to shoulder and from withers to tops of his legs and phone the company and see what they suggest. It is difficult to tell without seeing the horse.
Q:Me and my husband have been searching apartments for rent and 90% come with carpets. Being both from Europe, we are not used to the smell of carpet. We just wondered what happened in this country that so many people use carpets.
Putting down a harwood floor can be ex$pen$ive. In old apartments, chances are there is a hardwood floor under the carpet. Back when the apartment was built, it probably had hardwood floors, but they were covered up with carpeting because it's warmer and less noisey.
Q:I am going to get new carpet and a friend told me to get berber because it wears better.Does it?Is it more expensive than a good plush carpet?
Not necessarily , but it can be. Berber by it s construction you don t see any wear because your walking on the loops. It will mat and crush because it usually , but not always made w/ a softer yarn called Olefen. So check your warranty info on the back of all carpets to compare. They ll add nylon in it to get colors in the yarn because Olefin is a natural stain blocker but a softer, not as tough as nylon. You ll find cheap berbers and expensive ones. If you have pets, give it a 2nd look, since 1 loose or snagged loop (pet nails) and a whole row can be zipped right out via a cat or a vacuum. When picking ANY carpet, get the correct pad and the poundage to match.Minimum 3/8 and 8# pad for berber and 7 / 16 ths and 5 1/2# pad for regular carpet. These will protect you for a warranty GL
