Q:50/60Hz Diesel Generator Set?
You can adjust the frequency to 50HZ by running the generator at a speed lower than 1800rpm., that is 1500 rpm. At this speed check the terminal voltage. The voltage can be adjusted to 380 volts using the potentiometer adjustment on the generator panel. The 220 volts can be obtained by using a parallel connection assuming that the generator is wye connected. Actually, the voltage of 380 volts to neutral is 219.39 volts, which is approximately 220 volts. Hence, you may not have to reconnect the generator terminals. The difference in P.F. will not matter much.

Q:Is it possible to run appliances on batteries/w AC inverter and a generator that only comes on occasionally.?
Yes, this is quite possible. What you need to do is to determine the maximum current draw, and size the equipment accordingly. One important point to remember is that batteries do not like to be re-charged rapidly. Therefore, the drain on the batteries in say 1/2 hour, may take several hours to recharge. This scheme works very well with solar energy, but what you may very well end up with huge losses in efficiency. I can tell you first hand, that if you are able to buy power from the electric company, it will be the cheapest, cleanest alternative. And, no, I do not work for the government, or the power company but I do have an old wind turbine and an empty bank book.
Q:Can u plz help me to solve following problems: on generator synchronizing?
1. (i). Each engine should carry the SAME LOAD PERCENTAGE-wise, eg. 80%, to minimize the load change burden on the rest. (Smaller engines may run at full load, since their contribution may go unnoticed.) Since the overall kW bus load is constant, each generator will pickup a percentage of it, by controlling the torque on each prime mover. If it is a steam turbine, by throttling steam flow. If it is a diesel engine, by throttling fuel, and so. (ii). Each alternator should be adjusted to carry the SAME POWER FACTOR, by adjusting excitation accordingly, eg, .85, to avoid stability issues. Running alternators at leading power factors may turn the system unstable and force loss of synchronism 2. Considerable mechanical damage will be caused by incorrect synchronization to windings, shaft and keyways. 3. (i) reducing torque on one a prime mover is done when preparing to take it out of service. This has to be done gradually, so that other machines can pickup the load slowly. When close to unloaded, the generator can be taken off the grid. Power should never be reduced to the point of allowing the generator to be motored, i.e., reverse power flow, which can cause unpredictable damage to the turbine and system instability. (ii) reduced excitation is a very dangerous condition which will cause the power factor to turn leading, i.e., capacitive, weakening the synchronizing torque with possible loss of synchronism and forcing the bus voltage up. .

The next generation of Hybrid vehicles are being designed to do exactly this. They are referred to as REEVs, or Range Extended Electric Vehicles. Essentially, they are a fully electric vehicle, like a Tesla roadster. Electric vehicles have greater low end torque than internal combustion engines, and are inherently more energy efficient (more energy used goes toward locomotion rather than waste heat) To extend the range of these electric vehicles beyond just plugging them in to charge the batteries, they have an on board generator that can be set up to run on gasoline, diesel, bio diesel, or ethanol. They also take advantage of the same regenerative braking systems that are already being used in current hybrid vehicles. REEVs are pretty much awesome. If you're looking at getting a new ride, I'd recommend waiting a few years and getting one of these.
Q:onan generator question?
the other guys are right cummins owens onan. sounds like a 750 kw it is a good lighthouse, you find that it uses about .2 gl an hour of diesel. its some what hard on raw water impellers ( carry an Extra) and you'll need to change the mounts to stop some of the vibration other than that its been very reliable for me. it powers my 53 foot trawler no problems.
Q:What could replace the diesel for freight locomotives?
If we run out of oil just were will the electricity come from is a question that is often on my mind. So electric locomotives are not the answer, the transmission of power is only one more place to loose the amount of energy generated. Solar Turbines at one time had a wood chip fired turbine that could generate electricity and that might be adaptable for mobile applications. Our rail system is reaching the point of saturation, and many of the rail lines that have been abandoned can not be reclaimed. Which means we had better develop the transporter beam and do away with so many other methods of transportation. Beam me up Scotty, there is no intelligent life here!
