You would simply use a step-up transformer capable of handling 240V and about 8A. The transformer would be a transformer with 2 secondary windings for every 1 primary winding. This will double the voltage from the primary. 1000W is 1000W no matter what the voltage is. So (in a perfect world), you would get 1000W after stepping the voltage up to 240V. But you would actually get around 80-85% efficiency. But there is always a safety span built into the rating of generators (a 1000W generator could usually put out about 1400W without much of a problem). 1000W 120V * 8.33A (or 110V * 9.1A) 1000W 240V * 4.16A ---Realistically, you should be able to safely draw about 4A @ 240V. Q:I was wondering if you guys know where to find an electrical generator that does not come with an engine. For example, I have found diesal generators that use diesal fuel to create current. I need something that can create current, but doesn't come with any mechanical input.I basically need an alternator that can produce power on the 30 kilowatt level.
There was much more success searching with terms like belt driven generator, generator head, or two bearing generator, than with just generator. A practical problem: An AC generator's output frequency is dependent on the shaft speed, so you'll need a governor to keep the speed constant, even as the applied load changes. The packaged engine-generator sets include a governor set-up, does the engine you have include a governor? Many of these generator heads run at 3600rpm, is your diesel going to be happy running for long periods of time at that speed? You could change the shaft speed with a pulley ratio if you use belts, but in any event, the shaft speed must be kept constant at the manufacturers specification to keep the output line frequency and voltage at the desired spec. You will also need a Generator Transfer Switch to transfer household loads from the utility to the generator, if you decide to go that far. In the third reference provided below, notice that some of the pictures show only a lay-out. Some sort of very sturdy mounting plate would be needed for those configurations. If the engine was started with the generator head just laying there, parts would be flying all over the place in short order. Obviously shaft and belt alignments would be critical.
Q:I am investigating CoGen engine applications. I am looking for about 100-150kWh power output plus heat (water). Do you know of any application that uses solar thermal energy to power the engine? Also, it seems most CoGen engines use natural gas or other gases, but gas would not be viable for my application. Diesel would most likely be the second best option. Q:Hi, i have a peugeot diesel conected to an 8kw alternator via a lay shaft engine 2275rpm alt 1500rpm at 2250rpm engine produces max torque 70lb ft, alt should only need 33lb ft. under heavy load engine allmost stalls. The alt is what RPM you will set the engine atMost 120-240 volt are 50 HRX and run at 1800or 3600 so if it's the 3600 back end your using the wrong engineUnless you use a pulley and belt to get the correct RPMMY 8K Diesel marine ONAN direct drive 3cyc runs at 1800 Rpm If your over loading the genset than no engine will workwhat is the load your pulling as 8K is 80 amps Max single 240V or 40 amp double 120V

you must look at the power distribution between 4 and 6 axles as a fraction. you must also realize that at WOT (all 2000 ponies [38-series]) for either an SD or GP, the altenator produces the SAME power output (600amps if i remember correctly?). you are dividing the power available by either 4 or 6. so, you can see here that the GP trac mtrs have more power avail to them. thus why an SD will lug down at low speed longer. takes a bit longer to burn those out because they dont have the power avail to them as a GP. the trac mtrs on GP and SD are the same per class. for interchangability and mass production. so SD trac motors arent smaller. SD's primarily came about as a way to spread the weight out. giving the SD a lighter axle loading than its counterpart GP. for railroads who wanted the high hp, but had light rail. so most everything on a GP38, and SD38 are the same parts. fuel tank, trucks, and frame being the major differences. in essence, both SD and GP 38 series pull the same, they both have the same power output to the trac motors. if either sd or gp trac mtr takes more than it can handle, well, do you smell smoke? you must understand the 'load' is a fixed load. meaning the altenator can only produce so much. basic example: take a 9volt battery. hook 4 xmas bulbs to it. note how well they lite up. now hook 2 more to the chain for a total of 6. notice they all still lite up, but not as bright? thats exactly how it works with traction motors. same power plant in both examples, just a different fraction of power per unit.
