Q:My kitchen has ceramic tile already installed and I despise it and have for years. I do not want to put a big investment into this house as I do not plan on living there for much over 2 more years. I just want to cover it up and make it look better. This site seems pretty legit and only deals with self stick tile. Anyone know of pros or cons? Have any suggestions?: Cons would be that it costs close to $10 a square foot. I also doubt that it looks as good in person as the site claims. I've installed a lot of surface coverings, including tile-textured vinyl wallpaper and a variety of peel and stick material and they rarely look that convincing when they are right under your nose, as a countertop backsplash would be. That's a lot of money for a coverup job, And you don't say where the tile is installed. Walls? Countertop? Floors? That stickandgo is strictly for walls, not any area that would have moisture lying on it or traffic. If it is just your walls it would be a lot cheaper just to hire someone to tear off the ceramic tile and put up something different. It only cost me $6 a square foot for labor and $3 for material to have a real ceramic subway tile back splash installed in my kitchen last year. It would be even less if you did it yourself. If you are thinking of covering a floor, look at the Trafficmaster Allure material at Home Depot -- excellent product and about $2 a square foot. Installs like a dream, completely waterproof, can go over an uneven surface, adheres to itself, not what is behind it (it floats), easy to remove later, and both the tile and wood versions look and feel absolutely real. We did my friend's large bathroom with it in less than 4 hours last winter and it looks like a hardwood floor and holds up to anything. I used the slate-look tiles in my breakfast room of my previous house and everyone who saw it thought it was real stone. If it's your countertops, it is easy and cheap to replace countertops with new laminate and the new laminates are not your Grandma's formica -- many look like high-end granite and even metals.

I appreciate it.: it isn't really as easy as you'd think. 1. create a background 2.make sure to check the box labeled Use as tile set 3.open up the room you want the tiles to appear in 4.there should be some tabs below the upper left corner 5.click on Tiles 6.under the big gray blank space(wich is just below the tabs) there should be a place to select the tile you want to use 7.after selecting the tile the gray empty space should show the tile. 8.click in the room on the spot you want the tile. remember, tiles are basicly drawings. so objects sometimes go over or under them. experiment with the layers to solve this :)

Q:can you tile an old brick fireplacegt;?would it look stupid?: Are you still planning on using the fireplace? You will need to check with the manufacturer of the tile that it can withstand the heat. If you're tiling the exterior of the fireplace, make sure you select a corner bead for the exposed edge where the fireplace opening meets the wall plane. Installing tile over a fireplace is not a big deal if you're putting it on the wall plane. Whether it looks stupid or not depends on the type of tile you use and the overall color scheme. It could definitely work.

Q:I need matching vinyl tiles for my kitchen floor. they‘re about 18x18 inch. I only need about 6 of them. is it possible to have a company match the design of tile and custom make me new ones, or a company that can match them?: It would probably be cheaper to replace the whole floor than to have matching tiles made, even if that were possible. Is there a place you can take tiles from, like under a rug, or under furniture where they won't be missed, and use them? You can then replace those you took up with something close, and they won't be noticeable. Another option is if the 6 tiles are all in one spot, and in front of the sink, or stove, you can replace them with contrastin tiles, and have a sort of permanent rug effect. In that case you can use 6 x 6 or 9 x 9 tiles. Another thing you might try is doing an internet search for places that sell discontinued vinyl tile. Someone must buy the remaining stock of discontinued tile to sell.

Q:My family and i are thinking about replacing our floor tile this year and putting in something nice. How difficult is it to take out the old tile. What would I do with the tile once it is pulled up? Order a construction dumpster? And do we have to pull up the base board?I have seen it done on DIY network, doesn‘t look that difficult and seems like we could save money. And any suggestions on good looking tile that we could get cheap, maybe an outlet store.What‘s the difficulty level: beginner, intermediate or expert.: difficulty would be beginner,, its easy , can be time consuming depending on mortar under tile.. a good strong scraper will take up the old tile.. even a spade will make it easy.. the hard part is making sure the floor under the tile is level and smooth before putting more tile down.. just have to scrape at it and it will come off.. as far as replacement tile.. if you are in ontario ,, home depot has pretty good ceramic on sale right now for 59 cents a square foot.. its pretty nice tile too.. have used it.. if your anywhere else.. the big box stores always have a sale of some kind on

If you are going to live in the house for a while, go with the cultured marble.
