Q:I got ceramic in my schedule and i was wondering what do you do there? and is it fun?
Well, I didn't take ceramics until junior college, but--yes--it can be fun. Every high school does things differently, so I can't tell you for sure exactly what your class will be like. You will probably do both hand building and work on the potters' wheel. Maybe you will mix your own glazes from chemicals, but you will probably use pre-mixed glazes from jars. Probably the teacher, or the teacher's aide, will do the actual firing (in the kiln--a really hot oven that goes over 2000 degrees F) for you, but in some classes they teach students how to load and run the kilns. In order to have the most fun with the class, do the regular assignments, but also think ahead about what kinds of things that you'd like to make, and then ask the teacher to give you pointers on how to make whatever it is that you have in mind.
Q:Can I fire small ceramic sculptures with a torch? If it's possible, can you give me details on how to do it? Best answer to whoever gives me thorough details. Thanks!
No way man. To get to a fired state, clay has to go through several different stages that can only happen at very high temperatures. All that will happen from a torch is that maybe some of the water will evaporate and it'll dry out. At 575C, the clay goes through 'Quartz Inversion' and this is the point at which it will never return to an unfired state - before this, if the clay gets wet again it can slake down into slip. There are lots of other changes that happen after that (the creation and re-organizing of crystals, etc) but it's all moot because there's no way a torch is going to get that hot. *Maybe*, *Maybe* if you had it in a very well insulated box and it was a really big flame and you could sustain it for 2 days but even then, if the piece was right next to the flame it would probably crack anyway I'd say you should find your local potter's guild and ask if someone could fire it for you.
Q:glass-ceramic production
Melt it and form it like glass. Bake it in a kiln and it becomes glass-ceramic.
Q:piezoelectric transducers vs ceramic?
Yes, they have any color you want, but you can't get'm at Autozone!
Q:Development history of Chinese ceramics
Development history of Chinese ceramics:In the early Neolithic age, 7000-8000 years ago, the ancestors of our country had already started making pottery. Because of the low social productivity and the low level of material civilization of the society, the pottery of the new stone age was characterized by its rough and primitive simplicity. In the late Neolithic Yangshao culture, mining culture, Hemudu Site culture Qu Ling, Dawenkou Culture, Longshan culture ten cultural relics, unearthed a large number of ceramics, the main varieties of pottery, pottery, pottery and geometric pottery etc.. The original colored pottery and painting are decorated with geometric shapes. The techniques are rough and the composition is novel and smooth. It shows the artistic level of Chinese pottery at that time. Longshan culture pottery little decoration, but the overall round straight, thin wall and uniform, showing amazing skills.
Q:What about ceramics?
I. scouring the mud:Kaolin is the best raw material for firing porcelain, for thousands of years, many fine ceramics are from these humble clay evolved, the first process of the porcelain: Amoy mud, clay is put into usable porcelain amoy. Two pile of mud:Amoy good porcelain clay and can not immediately use, it must be divided into columnar pile, for storage and the use.
Q:Has anyone used ceramic paint pens? I hope they are more manageable than ceramic paint + paintbrush (I‘m not so skilled at painting). Where can I find good multicolored ceramic paint pens? Like, what store? I don‘t want to buy online :(Thanks!
if you want to do really detailed work i found using a toothpick to be amazing. pretty tedious and you need a steady hand :)
Q:I‘m thinking of buying one for my hedgehog, but my question is. Since my cage setup is two sterlite bins connected with a tube, do you think the emitter would be able to heat both bins?
Heating pet cages is interesting question. Claire's rabbits were banished to the garage, which gets quite cool at night in the winter. We got a small heater with a fan and a thermostat, put walls near the cage, and the heater near the cage. The fan would blow warm air towards the bunnies, keeping that corner of the garage warm. This is better, I think, than a purely radiative (no fan ceramic) type, because the ceramic heater will warm the sterite contaner it is pointed to. This will not be efficient, and could be a fire hazard. Put it on a GFI circuit for safety. I also put a light on a timer so it was on during the day. Turn the thermostat relatively cool. You can also put a cheap thermometer there. Rodents are supposedly ok to near freezing temps, but we kept their cages above 55°F, since they can't snuggle in their insulating dens the way they do in the wild. Our bunny cage is open, so air can circulate. Air circulation is probably not good inside your sterite containers, but if you keep the outside reasonably warm, the inside will be too. Important to keep cages out of the wind if you want to keep them warm.
Q:what is sculptural ceramics?
Ask this once you're on fire!!!!!!! it will come to you quickly.
Q:The origin of ceramics
By 600 years in the Warring States to the Qin and Han Dynasty appeared the first cultural climax (Shaanxi Terracotta Army). In the Han Dynasty have painted pottery pot, creative and burned to the late Eastern Han Dynasty celadon, on human civilization has made a great contribution to the three. During the period of Yue celadon rustic style, simple decoration. The white porcelain of the northern and Southern Dynasties firing, is another major event in the history of ceramics, the white porcelain lotus tank is the basis for the later development of painted porcelain, porcelain, and a pioneer in Xing Ding. During the period of Sui, Tang and Song Dynasties, is at an important stage in the development of China ceramics, in the basis of inheritance, the Tang Dynasty the celadon and white porcelain glaze decoration into the mature stage, began to appear, three painted mottled Hyun rotten started mass production.
