Q:I had both tyres replaced on my bike this Tuesday. However, after getting to work this morning I found the back tyre was flat (was handling funny on the way in)We tried re inflating it, but there seems to be a hole at the bottom of one of the treads. Looks like a nail punctured it (the nail is gone now)The garage who replaced the tyre has taken the bike away for an assessment. However, I‘m worried that I‘ll have to pay for a new tyre. How do things stand legally? Is there any kind of sale of goods warranty on tyres?I know this is mostly just bad luck. but I really can‘t afford this. The garage are asking me to pay full price for a new tyre.Any advice?(Oh, I‘m in the UK)
As Larry E and Bikerwoody ,the great Geordie Comedian Sid the Sexist once said that sometimes we can fall in a barrel of **** and come out suking our thumbs. Warranty on tyres is there but to claim the tyre must show some manufacturing defect or be a recall. My mates with tubless slicks get a lot more punctures. They should be able to patch it ,unless the internal bands and threads have damage due to the puncture.
Q:is there a difference in ride on motorcycles like the victory vegas that have smaller front tires?
Do you mean thinner or smaller in diameter. Either way, smaller or thinner tires will be more easy to maneuver and less stable at high speed. Larger wheels mean less maneuverability but more stability.
Q:Hi! i have a 2009 Suzuki 600GSX. it has about 4k on it now. im wondering when is a good time to replace my tires?
Most tires have a mileage rating, i.e. 15000 miles, etc. But usually wont last that long if you are any kind of avid rider. Check the tires wear indicators, and tread depth. Consult your service manual for tread depth measurements also.
Q:Here is my predicament. I bought a wrecked 2001 Yamaha R6 from a neighbor about a year ago and I recently got it up and running about three months ago. Right before my neighbor wrecked he had put brand new ( He might have put 300 miles on the tires) Michilen Powers on both the front and rear. Although the tires were new when he went down the totaled bike sat in his garage for about 3 years untouched. The tires do not have much wear but I am afraid to get low on corners because I don‘t know if the rubber is dried out or if the tires have a shelf life. When I pop the clutch in second gear I often feel wheel spin but the r6 is a more powerful bike then I am accustomed to so I don‘t know that is normal. Long story short, Is it dangerous for me to get low on corners because of my tires? Is it possible that they are dry and loosing grip?Any wisdom is welcome.
I heard that really only hormones added to livestock can affect a child's growth. but certain food dyes (red 40, yellow 1 and blue 1) can cause cancer [though you would have to ingest quite a bit of it.
Q:I bought a used bike and it has the original tires on it. it is 18 years old and the tread on the tires is really good. it‘s barely been used. the mechanic i took it too said that since the tires are so old, once i start riding it a lot the rubber around the seems will start to crack. i don‘t know much about tires or fixing things for that matter, does this sound logical? or is this guy just trying to get an extra 300 bucks?
He may be trying to get money out of you. However, your talking about rubber that is 18 years old, and you may not know how these tires were kept. They could have dry rotted. Plus, you are talking about a motorcycle. They can be extremely dangerous if one thing goes wrong on them. Your tires are really important. A flat on a car is much different then a flat on a bike. I would say try riding the bike on those tires at slow speeds around your neighborhood, or through a parking lot for a while and see what happens to the tires. I would err on the side of caution, and buy new tires.
Q:I‘ve been in love with motorcycles since i was 10 or so. I finally got around to taking the MSC (19 fyi) and want to sell my car in place of a BMW touring bike. Besides the initial purchase cost, which is more economic in the long run? I understand the following;I can expect 45-60 mpg from a 1000cc compared to my 25-27 mpg from my current 2.5L I6.Tires for my BMW 3series run $230 a pop ($1000 a set w/ installation tax) compared to $400 a set for a motorcycle.Tires for my BMW 3class last 50k compared to the motorcycles 8k.1 tank of gas should last 300miles on both vehicles.I‘ve looked at all of these facts and figures, but still can‘t see which would be more economic and practical in the long run. Can some vetrans provide some insight?Your time is appreciated.Currently, I own a 1998 323is with 65k miles. Id like to buy a CBR600/BMW touring. Haven‘t made up my mind on which yet.
Personally I feel it is a bit silly to compare the two. Bikes on their own are more practical and economical and there is no doubt about that BUT the wind protection, safety and comfort which a car provides is simply absent on the motorcycle. You will realize that when you get one. There is always a difference between fantasy and reality. When you want to carry some bulky items around and you have already sold your car, you will begin to regret your decision. Since you can only drive one vehicle at a time, I suggest you keep the car and also add a motorcycle to your garage. Each has their own plus and minus points. Both are to be cherished.
Q:How different are motorcycle knobby vs. road tires tread radii (same rims)?
The difference is so small that it is not worth calibrating.
Q:Looking for a 20 x 300 tube motorcycle tire for a modern motorcycle. It can be street or 90/10 enduro. Any good sources? Thanks!
That 20 inch size was I think a Honda only on a couple models- probably have to go to a Honda dealer for their source of tires. Dennis Kirk might have a source. Bridgestone was the OEM supplier I think for a few years- could check there dealers.
Q:Bike: 2007 Ninja 250. The pressure isn‘t listed on the tires. I just found these stock specs online.
Come on guys, let's get the facts straight. Say a particular tire has a load rating of 910 lbs and says maximum pressure of 40 psi. That means if you have a 910 lb load on the tire, you need 40 psinot 38, 35, etc. At lower pressures, the tire will flex more than it should, the tire will wear at the edges more than it should, handling will be diminished on curves and the excessive flexing will cause the tire to heat up. If the tire gets hot enough, it will blow out. Say you have a light weight bike with a large tire or a tire with a heavy load rating and you only have 400 lbs of load on the tire. You DO NOT need 40 psi and could probably get by with 28-32 psi. With 40 psi the tire will be rock hard, ride rougher than necessary and will wear the center out quicker due to the smaller contact patch. I addition, the smaller contact patch reduces traction on wet pavement, corners, etc. Some websites have charts that list the tire's weight rating at different pressures. You might check on that if your bike has non-stock size or weight rated tires. You will need to know the weight each tire supports. Grain scales at elevators are good for that. Over the last 40 years, I've changed tires of all types from little guys on a 6 diameter rim to heavy equipment tires taller than a man and too heavy for three men to lift, so don't anyone try to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.
Q:So the rim now sets inside the tire. The someone was ME!
Try standing up the tire and rim, shove the rim down as far as you can in the tire, grab the top of the rim and try to pull it out. Lots of soapy water will help too. Gotta say, I have never seen this trick before!
