Q:I know motorcycles in general are not necessarily safe, but I‘m planning on getting my first bike and want to know the pro‘s and cons of each? Would a bike like a Kawasaki Ninja 250r be safe enough or a louder cruiser type bike like a Honda Rebel? Also, do skinny rear tires like on the 2008 Ninja 250r make a huge difference in terms of traction and such?
Short answer is that these are both beginner bikes, take your pick. But consider a dual sport also, very good for beginners and more fun and versatile than the smaller street bikes. You can learn alot by riding in the dirt. Chris H'The only way to be safe is to wear full riding gear??' This is the kind of MSF horse-hockey that makes them lose credibility with me. In racetrack conditions with 50 ' of unobstructed dirt buffer zone riders wreck and slide around without a bruise.or sometimes land wrong and are very seriously injured. On the street there is no buffer zone, just tons of steel traveling at 65mph and solid concrete walls. I rider might be slightly safer all decked out in leather and plastic but don't get your hopes up or you are going to be seriously disappointed. You are never 'safe' riding a motorcycle on the street and you should keep that attitude if you want to live. The best way to increase your safety is to be very aware of the road and anticipate the stupidity of other drivers, how you are clothed doesn't prevent and when it comes to motorcycle wrecks it's best to just not be in one.
Q:What are the tires used on a Suzuki GS700E motorcycleI just got a new . well new old motorcycle. 1985 GS700E, I need tires for it but I dont know what kind of tires it uses. Can someone help me out. I have tried searching on the internet, I have looked and gotten a few different answers but I need the right one.Can any one helpThanks!
It didn't come without tires on it did it?Just look on the side walls and write down the tire size.Order the same size tires.
Q:Just curious. If so, what keeps it from making the sound? I don‘t know anything about motorcycles and such, just to let you know lol.
Aside from a motorcycle being electric, no, you can not make a bike with no sound. Even electric motors have a whine to them.
Q:I am a novice in this area. I am thinking about getting my Motorcycle License and in the meantime I have been looking at bikes, but I am not sure where to start or what to look for. Any tips would be much appreciated.
If you have little or no idea try some thing cheap and cheerful 125cc 250cc bikes and then when you've got the hang of 'things' take a few test rides and see what you find suites you. Enjoy.
Q:I am recently new to the motorcycle world and just now finding out tricks of the trade. So here it goes.My rear tire was originally a TUBED tire. I am having a difficult time finding a replacement tire since apparently they don‘t make the size anymore (not too common) and all the tires that would fit on it are tubeless tires. Other then attaching a valve stem to the rim, will I have problems going from tube to tubeless? What other changes do I need to make?
not enough info in the question but will answer. IF THE RIM HAS SPOKES THEN YOU MUST USE A TUBE but there is no problem putting a tube in a tubeless tire. if you really want to go tubeless then you need a rim that is not a spoked one
Q:What is the purpose of wrapping the tires, are they pre-heating the tires or what? Just curious. No time to go to race track and ask the guys.
If it didn't turn on or didn't turn off then you could have an electircal switch problem, or if you could turn it on and then when you turn it off it stays there every time. Change the relay, if it doesn't fix it, change the motor.
Q:I‘ve been in love with motorcycles since i was 10 or so. I finally got around to taking the MSC (19 fyi) and want to sell my car in place of a BMW touring bike. Besides the initial purchase cost, which is more economic in the long run? I understand the following;I can expect 45-60 mpg from a 1000cc compared to my 25-27 mpg from my current 2.5L I6.Tires for my BMW 3series run $230 a pop ($1000 a set w/ installation tax) compared to $400 a set for a motorcycle.Tires for my BMW 3class last 50k compared to the motorcycles 8k.1 tank of gas should last 300miles on both vehicles.I‘ve looked at all of these facts and figures, but still can‘t see which would be more economic and practical in the long run. Can some vetrans provide some insight?Your time is appreciated.Currently, I own a 1998 323is with 65k miles. Id like to buy a CBR600/BMW touring. Haven‘t made up my mind on which yet.
Personally I feel it is a bit silly to compare the two. Bikes on their own are more practical and economical and there is no doubt about that BUT the wind protection, safety and comfort which a car provides is simply absent on the motorcycle. You will realize that when you get one. There is always a difference between fantasy and reality. When you want to carry some bulky items around and you have already sold your car, you will begin to regret your decision. Since you can only drive one vehicle at a time, I suggest you keep the car and also add a motorcycle to your garage. Each has their own plus and minus points. Both are to be cherished.
Q:Specifically a back tire, for an old Honda CM200. Not looking for anything special, but the tire I had was so bald it eventually became flat. Luckily this happened at the peak of Fall and now it‘s nearing Summer and I‘d like to take off the back wheel and fix this thing up to sell for a bigger bike. What kind of prices am I looking at?
185 is the widest point in millimeters 65 is the aspect ratio (sidewall height in % of width) R Radial 14 is the wheel size (in inches) so a 185-70R14 is about 1/4 taller than a 185-65R14
