- Q:I have a 98 oldsmobile intrigue. Stock radio was taken out a while ago so all there is are wire hanging out. I don't know what I need, a wire connector or wire harness. Honestly don't know what's what. Also need to know how to use the wire connector/harness.and what goes to what
- First off, if there are bare wires, meaning they are all loose and you see copper then you are in for a rough time. If they are still wired into the stock harness and connectors it will be much easier. If you have a stock harness and connectors, you should buy a vehicle harness adaptor that is correct for your car. Just about any stereo shop should be able to get them. This will plug into your stock harness and give you labeled wires to connect to the harness you get with the new head unit. Just splice them together and you should be good. Very straight forward. Just follow the instructions. If you have bare wire then you will need to get a chilton's or haynes manual for your car. There should be a wiring diagram that lists the color codes for the what wire is what. Use that to splice into the deck harness. This is the harder route because you don't have a lot of slack on the stock wires and its a headache to keep it all strait in your mind.
- Q:I am looking for some answers when it comes to soldering wires. Lets say I am using 6 to10 (22 AWG 2 conductor wires) and I want to solder those to 1 wire for power source and 1 wire for ground. Now lets say soldering 10 wires to 1 wire for power and 10 wires to 1 wire for ground. All the wires are the same AWG guage. Now that the wires are twisted together and soldered to the hot and ground source, by doing this will I actually make a resistor or change the amperage or reduce the voltage by soldering so much wires together to a 1 wire source? The power source I am using is 12 Volts. If anyone knows of anywhere I can find this information online, etc, I would appreciate it.
- it will effect the voltage because it will split the power 10 defferent ways. i dont know any website that will tell you this but there is a tester that you can get to test the voltage. thats how i found out.
- Q:running wire from wall out let to a on and off switch and then to another outlet
- your outlet has 4 poles on it, 2 on each side, run the existing wires (black and white) to the top poles, black (+) on the brass side, then run your new wires from the bottom poles to the switch. when you get to the switch run the black wire to either pole of the switch, and continue your white wire to the new outlet, then tie a black wire to the other side of the new outlet and back to the switch. remember that outlets have polarity, hook the hot (black) to the brass side only. if you have any doubts obtain skilled help, you can get hurt very quick or start a fire if you haven't wired it correctly.
- Q:I'm replacing the door speakers in a 2001 Coupe Camaro with the factory sound system. I needed to know which wire was positive and which was negative so I bought a circuit tester. However, I keep getting the reading that both wires are positive. What could be causing this? I know the circuit tester works because I tested it on the battery terminals and it worked fine.
- If you power it up, and go from one wire to ground at a time it will work, if you use the tester between the two speakers wires it will be positive both ways you hook it.

- go to a hardware store and look at the wires yourself....the numbers are printed on the wires....number 12 wire is the size of about 1/8 of a inch....number 14 wire is about the size of a heavy pencil lead......both these wires come in many colors......

- You want to cover a wall with wire? Just kidding, i figured out what you were trying to say. There are good answers here already. Just be sure you are putting screws into the studs only and you will be fine. What are you covering with? Sheetrock? Wood? The glue idea sounds good too, depending on what you are putting on the wall. Again...i dont know how to cover a wall with wire. I guess if you are an artist. LOL Good luck
- Q:I wired an outdoor lamp-post. I tested it before wiring it to the fuse box...and if I touch the lamp-post I feel the current (a slight shock). I will be using a ground fault breaker....so I assume if I wire it to that I am going to loose the connection. Any thoughts on what is wrong?
- In addition to the answer Paul gave, check the wiring that the white wire is the neutral or common wire and that it goes to the shell side of the lamp holder. A few years ago, I had a similar problem, when all of the checks were made, the panel was wired with the black wires on the neutral buss. Hence all of the devices were wired backwards. Call a qualified professional electrician to do the work.
