Q:How to insulate the space between the roof pitch and ceiling/wall in my older home?
You need to have an air space between the roof and your insulation to prevent moisture build up on the inside and ice damming on the exterior. So you want to insulate the ceiling of the room, not the roof. For the angled protruding parts they make inserts that go between the joists to give 1-2" of air space under the roof and you can put insulation under that against the wall of the room. Remember that it's trapped air that insulates so don't overstuff when you push it in there. It sounds like you don't have access behind the vertical walls. You may need to break through the plaster between the studs to get in there and put insulation on the wall of the room and on top of the ceiling below. Then get some sheetrock and spackle to repair the hole you had to make, or you can make an insulated removable panel and use that area for storage. But don't store anything in there that can't take heat/cold.
Q:I want to install a new roof, what are the best insulation options?
I am going to convert my loft, so was researching this subject as well. I once saw on TV (I think on Renovation program) how they make insulation from sredded paper - this was a very inexpensive and very efficient way of doing it. Also they said that the best insulation is the one made from sheeps' wool. You can buy this from major DIY stores. Have a look at the links below
Q:the roof of my mouth hurts bad.i worked all day with sawdust and insulation yesterday.is this the problem.?
Sawdust is a definite possibility. It is highly toxic and an appropriate mask should always be worn when sawdust is present. Sawdust is a proven carcinogen. Depending on the type of insulation you used, it may contain chemicals (e.g. formaldehyde) or particulates (fiberglass) that can be irritating to the throat, lungs and/or nasal sinuses. Bottom line: be sure to wear an appropriate mask in the future. They are available at most hardware and all wookworking stores. Best wishes and good luck.
Q:where can i find and compare prices on roofing and insulation materials?
You could call ABC supply or Norandex Reynolds, they are the biggest distributors I know of. They may have some resources for you.
Q:how can I insulate a ceiling that has an aluminum roof?
The best method is with a spray on expanding foam insulation. It will stick to the ceiling and has a very good R Factor (how the construction industry measures the insulation factor). Any other method will involve building an interior ceiling or penetrating the roof, which will cause water damage.
Q:Should a two story home have insulation under the roof in the big closets ?
Any and all insulation helps wherever you put it! =)
Q:Are black concrete roof tiles for my house uncomfortably hot even with roof under sheeting and insulation?
I wouldn't get bogged down by it. It depends on you're area and what you want to use the loft for. But the insulation will keep it ok inside. Just add some air bricks to encourage ventilation. This will keep you're heating bills down, and unless you're going to be living in the loft I really wouldn't worry. There are a lot of variables to consider. Just stick you're logical head on and you'll find your own answer. Just consider what the Canadians say; "Insulate tight and Ventilate right".
Q:Suggest thermal insulation material for rcc roof that can be put during water proofing of roof?
POROSIL A specially graded Light Weight Insulating Aggregate for loose fill insulation in Cavity Wall and over Suspended/False Ceiling. # 100% inorganic and Asbestos free. It will not rot, emit odours or attract vermin. # Light in weight and easy to handle. # POROSIL is the only insulating material which is Non-toxic and non-flammable at the time of fire. # Reduces unwanted heat flow making living comfortable. # Reduces the Air Conditioning Power Consumption upto 20 to 30%
Q:How do I insulate an attic with only 5 inches between the inner ceiling and roof?
u can buy blow in insulation. I think Home Depot even lets you rent the blower machine free if you buy a certain amount of bags of the insulation.
Q:do I have to blow insulation in the roof of my mobile home if I install foam insulation under a meatle roof?
Install it under the meatle roof, it is a lot easier to do and will save you more money overall when you are spending money. Thanks
