A valve is a device that regulates the flow of substances (either gases, fluidized solids, slurries, or liquids) by opening, closing, or partially obstructing various passageways. Valves are technically pipe fittings, but usually are discussed separately. Valves are used in a variety of applications including industrial, military, commercial, residential, transportation. Plumbing valves are the most obvious in everyday life, but many more are used. Many valves are controlled manually with a handle attached to the valve stem. If the handle is turned a quarter of a full turn (90°) between operating positions, the valve is called a quarter-turn valve. Butterfly valves, ball valves, and plug valves are often quarter-turn valves. Valves can also be controlled by devices called actuators attached to the stem. A gate valve is like a garage door. A globe, typically called a ball valve, is round with a hollow center and two (open / close), three (open / close in multiple directions) or sometimes four (open / close in multiple directions where one direction is always flowing when valve is open) side openings.
Q:In place of actual valve oil, can I use WD40? How about baby oil? Are there any household products which work?
One of the best oil that will really give you a smooth action PLUS, not having to put all the time PLUS, really oiling those sticky valve problem. I recommend Sewing machine oil. It may look like water because it is not slimy, nor thick BUT once you apply it, it goes to work immediately. I recommended that for one of the trumpet play er who had issues with sticky valves. He tried it and been using it ever since. the good thing... its odorless not like Wd-40
Q:i have a leaky tp valve on my hot water boiler. The valve is rated at 30 psi and 155,000 btu. I can't find one with that btu rating. will a higher rating work?
You can absolutely use one with a higher btu rating., but not with a higher pressure rating. Just be aware that this valve has a much lower blowoff point than a typical hot water heater tp valve, so be very sure of the PRESSURE rating on the new valve. (should be 30 psi, just like the old one) You may want to check to be sure that your expansion tank isn't water logged, and that your boiler pressure isn't too high.(shouldn't be much more than 15psi or so, unless you have a multi story house). Expansion tank or water feeder pressure regulating valve may be having issues,....sometimes there's a reason why the tp valves leak. Hope this helps
Q:If someone is not born with heart valve disease... can a teenager or a 12 year old develop heart valve disease?
OMG, I can't imagine losing my dad or anyone else I loved at such a young age. But to answer your question, I think it's a lil of both. Or at least it certainly must seem that way right now. My dad is dying from cancer. He's 67 even still, I'm having a hard time with it. What your brother is going thru, is normal, I'm sure knowing that doesn't make it any easier for you. But maybe you could talk to someone like a therapist who could maybe give you some help in dealing with your brother as well as your grief over your dad. After my 2nd sister died, people would often ask how long we thought my mom would grieve. Our response was always, not everyone grieves the same, and death of a loved one is not something we get over. But after awhile, the pain isn't as constant as before each day gets a lil easier. Maybe when school starts you could talk to a school counselor or they could recommend a local one for you. In the meantime, talk to your friends or any family members. They know what you're going thru, they love you they will want to help in whatever way they can. Wish I could hug ya, cuz I know where you've been. Whether your loved one dies from a long suffering disease that you've known of or in a sudden accident, it's a horrible thing to have to go thru.
Q:The pig heart is better than our heart but the valves can be used to help us.
I have had heart surgery and they ruled out replacing my valve with a pig valve because they only last about 5 years. They replaced mine with a mechanical valve, and so far it's amazing! If they replace your valve I believe they basically cut out the defective one and sew in a new valve, animal or man made. If replaced with a pig valve you must be on anti-rejection medicine, and have it replaced every five years or so. With a mechanical one you have to be on blood thinners, but they assume (last I heard) they should last a minimum of 40 years, probably longer.
Q:When I put my check valve on my air line the air doesn't come through the air stone but when I take off the check valve it works. Also I switched the sides of the check valve and it didn't work. Click the link this is the air pump.
Or if you can, go to petsmart and get one there. Petco tends to sell sub-par items and livestock. If you have a tank that is bigger than your air pump was intended, then you will have problems. Say you bought a 10 gallon air pump for your 20 gallon tank. The strength of the pump is only able to push air down to counteract the average depth of a 10 gallon tank, against the pressure of only that much water. However if it were in a 20 gallon, it may not be able to counteract the water and the check valve (which shouldn't be causing much of a problem anyways). Make your line shorter and see if that helps. You don't need tons of extra airline tubing coiled around. Cut it down to the length you need, and try again. Remember, check valve should be OUTSIDE of the water, in the direction indicated on the valve (as to which side is in, which side is out), and it should be closer towards the pump itself. The check valve just prevents any water from dripping back into the pump.
Q:i dont get how valves produce the sound? and why did we change to solid state? was that because they we're used in stereos?
Most valve amps I have used reproduce the sound of a tube amp. Tubes have a warm sound and can be overdriven to get that good rock crunch distortion sound. We went to solid state because they were durable and didn't require the maintenance of a tube amp. Printed circuits and transistors cut the cost of manufacturing. The old tube amps still have the purpose and they never quite matched the exact sound of tubes with the solid state amps. That is why they are making a lot of tube amps now.
Q:Alright. The engine is a 7mgte. The clearances for the skims in the intake side is 0.20mm and the exh side is 0.25mm. What happens if i mixed the shims?
What do you mean if you mix the shims? Like switch the shims between the two valves? If that's what you mean then you could be causing the clearance to become really small on one side and really big on the other. Just check the clearances with the engine at TDC or on the heel of the cam lobe and you should be fine. The tick tick noise would either come from to big of a clearance or no oil. So I guess the simple answer would be nothing would happen if you mixed the shims except the clearances would change. Thumper This engine doesn't use pushrods or lifters. The cam pushes down on the valve with with shim overbucket design
