Q:can someone eplain to me how the water pump works on an outboard motor?
The driveshaft is always turning. A pinion gear at the bottom of the driveshaft spins the forward and reverse gears, which are freewheeling (in opposite directions) on the prop shaft. The clutch dog is splined and/or pinned to the propshaft, and moved forward (to mesh with the forward gear) or aft (to mesh with the reverse gear) by the clutch dog cradle, which is moved by the up or down motion of the shift rod. The backside of the forward reverse gears are machined with square corners that mesh with the clutch dog. So, the engine turns the driveshaft, the driveshaft turns the gears, the gears turn the clutchdog, and the dog turns the propshaft. Meanwhile, as mentioned, the drive shaft, which is always spinning, is also the water pump shaft. The water pump has a neoprene impeller in a chromed housing; a very tight fit -- the vanes have to be bent over to fit. The center of the housing is offset from the shaft, so the compartments where water is drawn in get smaller as they rotate toward the discharge, which provides enough water pressure to force water through the engine even at idle speed. The impeller is fit so tightly into the housing, that it will generate enough heat to melt and break up without a source of water -- it only takes about 30 seconds of dry running to seriously damage the impeller. to fix the gears, you have to use a gear puller to pull the propshaft bearing carrier. The reverse gear will fall out. Reach in with a long box-end wrench to remove the pinion gear from the driveshaft, and pull the driveshaft bearing housing out with the driveshaft. When you remove the shift rod, the prop shaft, forward gear, clutch dog etc should be accessible. There's a lot of complicated steps to accomplish each of the above, and some critical measurements with near-zero tolerance. Don't do it without a factory service manual in hand.
Q:question about water pump on 93 Camry LE, 4 cil?
That water pump is driven by the timing belt. Usually when you do a timing belt or water pump it makes sense to change both now because they are both difficult to get to and you have to take off the same things for both. $385 is a bad price If you want to look smart about it, ask him to look at and check the seals, all he would be able to tell you is if they are leaking, if they are, ask him how much more. It's all worth it if the car is still good. We just did that on a friend's '91 and her's overheated a few times. She ha 235,000 miles.
Q:1994 plymoth grand voyager leaking anti freeze is it the water pump?
could be, refill and put cardboard under the car to see if the Water pump leaks... If it original- its probably due anyway
Q:how do i know if i need to replace the water pump on a 2000 kia sephia?
Is it a big pulley down there? I'm thinking its the crankshaft pulley. That one won't turn by hand. Very difficult. What kind of car? Is a serpentine belt which one belt turn everything or multiple belts? A water pump should turn by hand and if its bad it will leak water. But there are time when the pump just goes out. Replace belt
Q:What all do I need to replace the timing belt and water pump?
They should sell a full front end gasket set with everything you need in it including the head cover gasket, front cam and crank seals.
Q:im looking for a company in bellemeade nj, that manufactures LABAWCO, water pump?
Q:My car squeaks every time I turn it on. But the belt is tight and I have a new water pump and alternator.?
It is the belt slipping on the pully before the material warms up from friction to make it grip better. The squeeling sound is the pully and the belt slipping as the motor is warming up. It is nothing to be concerned about and it is definately NOT your water pump. If the sound bothers you, as it would me, then goto your local auto parts store and buy a cheap can of belt stop slip. It costs less then five bucks and it is a sticky substance like stickum or sapp in a spray can that will help your belt to better grip the pullies and it will stop your problem. What you want to do is this, wait until your car is cold and have someone start the car while you are standing over the motor ready to spray the can onto the belt. You will instantly hear the noise quit as soon as you squirt the can onto the moving belt. Once the engine starts and the belt is moving, just hold the spray down for 3 seconds and it will coat the underside of the belt and your problems will be over. You might want to try to spray an area that will allow the spray to coat the underside of the belt, i.e. the part that comes in contact with the pully. You only want to spray the belt while the engine is running and the belt is moving. That way your 3 second squirt will coat the entire underside of the belt as it moves under the spray can. Kinda like oiling a bicycle chain while moving the pedals and spinning the chain while holding the can in one place as opposed to oiling the chain while the chain is stationary and trying to cover the whole chain. It is impossible to reach all the places becuase some will be hidden behind other parts. That is why you want your motor running while you squirt the belt with the can of sticky belt stop squeel. It will stop squeeling immediately as soon as you spray it on the moving belt. The guy at Pep Boys or Advanced auto parts should know what you want.
Q:How can I be sure the water pump is the problem before spending $ on repairs. 97 civic overheating.?
Check the thermostat, if that's the problem you'll be looking at a 5 or 10 dollar bill if you do the work yourself.
Q:What made my water pump lock up?
Yes, by all means, see if there was a warranty with that water pump. Find out if it was a genuine Jeep water pump or an aftermarket (made by another company). If it was an aftermarket brand, it may have a one year warranty if it was a good one. Ask the mechanic who did it. He might still have the paperwork. Also ask him if he warranties his work. He might have put in a rebuilt or remanufactured pump. They often come with 1 year, 12,000 mile warranties like the better aftermarket ones. Did you save your receipt? You may need it for the warranty.
Q:QDX is a submersible pump. What does "X" mean?
