Pumps suction lift varies depends on its Horsepower capacity and the type of pump (submersibble or centrifugal). 3) Determine number of households in the community. This data will be used for the design of reservoir (tank) for your water system and the number of hours for the pump to operate to fill the tank. Note that the average usage of water is 120 liters per day per capita. So the more the number of population, the bigger the tank and the longer the pumping time in order to meet the per capita usage. 4) Determine the elevations from your water source towards the community to be served. Use survey instrument to determine the elevations. This data will be used to design a height of the tank and the sizes of service pipes towards the community. The higher the difference in elevation from your source towards community, the lower the height of the tank and the smaller the sizes of service pipes. Sizes of service pipes can be determined by hydraulic heads (heights). By following these steps, I gues you can now design and construct a water system.

Q:I own a Camaro 1995 V6 3.4L automatic, it was diagnosed that the water pump was leaking and I was going to take it in on Saturday 3/1/08. But this morning I drove it and it seem that the car is losing power the RPM goes all up to 4-5 thousand to make a speed change. The car seems to stall like if it gets stuck the RPM goes up and eventually the next speed kicks in. I do know that the car started leaking water/coolant more than before after that little drive in the morning.The car is very well kept oil change is always on time .I always make sure that the water and the oil is level. transmission fluids are clean. You may have got it hot and blown a head gasket. That would take away the power as it got hotter.

Q:I have a 1978 El Camino V8 305. My power steering has been going out on me, and since then my belt has been squeaking usually when it first starts up. This morning when I got to work, smoke was bellowing from under my hood. Im trying to troubleshoot. Is it possible that my power steering pump damaged the belt enough that the water pump went out?

The only method of positive identification is to use a mechanics stethoscope. A failing bearing is most likely causing the whine, but wear in the p/s pump can also create a whining noise which will get noticeably louder when the wheel is turned and held against the stop with the engine running.

I like the MSR miniworks because it is reliable and easily serviceable. The downside is that it is heavy. If weight is an issue, I will either use bleach or Aquatabs to treat the water.

Locate the leak. If it is directly below the pump, you are right. There are many other points on the far that will leak coolant also.

Q:About 2 months ago I started hearing a noise coming from my bathroom that sounded like loud humming every 3 or 4 seconds after I would turn on the water or flush the toilet. I noticed that when this noise happened the water pressure would increase and then it would go back to normal. Then the noise started to get louder. The first place a car will leak oil is usually the valve covers. Regular maintenance requires valve adjustments, and to do this, the valve covers come off a few times in 10 years. If you have a four syllable motor, the front of the valve cover is right above the water pump, so a valve cover leak would dribble down the water pump. Your water pump could be leaking (if you've never replaced it in the 10 years since your car was made). I'd bet you have both problems. I'm too soon old, and too late smart, so I've let water pumps go because it's only leaking a little. When the shaft begins to get wobbly, it will let loose with a caBANG! and damage something when it flings off the fan. Moral to the story: Replace the water pump, and get a new gasket for the valve covers.
