- Q:Isn't it better to place a CPU on a desk or at least elevate it so that it doesn't touch a carpet or floor? (Even if the carpet is not shag?) - It may be an issue of what your rug is made of. I had a similar problem with a synthetic rug and I had to hang it outside for weeks to get the stink out of it (we'd used a steam cleaner 4 times on it so we knew it was clean). Make sure you've gotten all the soap out of the carpet because that can actually attract more dirt! Also try cleaning the surface the rug was on. Sometimes the smells can get trapped there too.
