That requires 1,460 x 3.6 MJ 5,256 MJ. / 0.4 efficiency 13,140 MJ. So you need 13,140 / 36MJ/L 365 Liters of diesel. If you used CFLs, at 25 watts, the answer is 1/4 of that, so 365 / 4 91.25 Liters of diesel. So the savings is 365 - 91.25 273.75 Liters savings. At $1.25 per liter, that is $324.19.

Most likely work related to the diesel generator or as an auxiliaryman. All propulsion work on a carrier is done by the NUCS. edit Enginemen are often assigned as small craft engineers, operating the engines on various boats carried by the ship.

Another large factor is the ability of electrical generator to drive the traction motors required to overcome the inertia of the enormous mass of the freight when the train is starting up. Efficiency is not simply the mechanical efficiency of the system, but the ability to maintain the system and adapt it to various tasks.

6000 is probably about right, and they are designed to be run regularly. Make sure you do the research, a $600 generator will probably only last you for about 2 years, then you will have to buy another one. Make sure that you go with an industrial one.
Q:Could I use red diesel in a diesel generator legally in the UK? Can I add vegetable oil to this and if so, in what ratio? Where are good sources of vegetable oil?
Red diesel is agricultural, no tax or tax reduced. The Red is only a dye to distinguish it from tax paid diesel. However using it illegally can result in very hefty fines if caught. Used and cleaned vegetable oil can be mixed with diesel, actual proportions I'm not sure of, but I think 3:1 oil to diesel. There are probably sites that explain in more detail. However why it has to be used veg. oil I don't know.

They are not normally running. If power fails there will be some automatic emergency lighting powered by batteries which should allow the backup generators plenty of time to get started. They are often diesel powered. You can hope that they are reasonably maintained and tested from time-to-time.

You have a 12 HP deisel generator delivering 120 volts- mounted inside a structure 1 Make sure all belts and controls are propertly protected and filtered air is provided to the engine. 2 Pipe the exhaust through the roof and outside the building 3 Provide proper electrical wiring and fuses 4 Provide a fire extinguisher (corbon Dixoide) near by 5 Provide safety shut-down switch on corn grinder 6 Mount Generator as far from grinder as possible.
