- Q:Because I live in aus and the temperatures range from *lowest 6-10C winter* and highest around 36C in summer, with no dramatic weather usually, would a horse the is kept out in a paddock all its life **pleasure horse** need such rugs like winter and summer etc? (if it was clipped or didn't have a nice big fluffy coat))thanks.
- I have three horses and live in Victoria. Two of them were unrugged this winter - a QH with a thick coat, not in work and a QH weanling with a thick coat. My first cross QH mare was clipped (hunter clip) as she was worked so she was rugged. The temps were getting down to -1C overnight. Mind you, my horses were hard fed twice daily and lived on average grass (not much grass because of the drought). If they weren't hard fed, they all would have needed rugs, including the weanling. The feed (especially roughage such as hay or chaff) ferments in the horses bowel, which warms them up from the inside. Less feed = less internal heating = more rugs required to keep the weight on. In summer, my show horses are rugged to keep their coats nice and prevent sun bleaching. If they aren't being show, then they don't get rugged. At the moment they are all unrugged as there are no shows because of EI. I am lucky enough to have my horses on full livery so there's always some one there to change their rugs if it gets too hot or too cold. If you aren't lucky enough to have someone keeping an eye on your horses (or if they aren't kept on your property) then you have to be very careful when keeping your horse rugged as they can get themselves into trouble. Rugs breaking, caught in fences, tearing and leaking, horse overheating because of a sudden patch of sunny weather, skin conditions because of sweating/overheating - the list goes on and on. - Q:We have rugs in our house that cover a large area because we have wooden floors. We have had them for a few years and there is a lot of dust that is sand colored that doesn't go away easily even with vacuuming. My mom thinks its just backing from the rug and it's normal. - It is a combination of dried backing and dust. I would suggest wearing a mask when you take them up. If you have dust allergies, it will certainly give you grief. Rugs not only need to be vacuumed on top, but should periodically be rolled up and vacuumed underneath as well, then the wood floor cleaned before putting the rugs back down.

- all you have to do is take a flexible measuring tape, put the start of it in the middle of his chest, go around the widest part of his body, aroiund the point of his butt, and to the center of his tail. whatever the measurement is, that's the size you need. if the rug doesn't come in the size, go up the next bigger size they have. i'd guess roughly a 66 inch rug for the welsh.

- This product is really for spot cleaning but the best thing I have found is a el cheapo aerosol spray cleaner, I think it's actually a generic knockoff of Resolve, it's $1 a can and I think I've only found it at Dollar General stores. It works really well and it's only $1, it's in a red can. If the whole thing needs cleaning I would use this spot cleaner first and then rent a steam cleaner. You can rent them from WinnDixie for about $40 and then the solution is extra, depending on what you want/need. I've just used the basic solution and it works pretty well but I would def spot clean first.
