Q:why is my furnace over flow tube filling up with water now when the heat is on?
Is this a newer furnace? If so , is it a high efficient furnace? If it is it will have plastic venting and the water is due to the condensate produced from the low temperature flue gases. When gas burns one of the by products is water, ussually this makes it up and out the chimney when the flue gas is hot. On high efficient furnaces they absorb so much of the heat the flue gas temperature is much lower, and starts to drop the moisture out of the flue gas. Your venting is designed to slope back to the furnace and drain the water back to the drain. If the flow tube is overflowing then there is probably a problem with the drain line being plugged. At that point the heat exchanger can fill with water and the preasure switch for the venting will not work and the furnace will not run anymore. Water comming out is normal, water backing up into the furnace is not.

A boiler necessarily provides saturated steam (water vapor) at its given operating pressure. To add more energy to the steam (superheated steam) a separate heat exchanger at a higher operating temperature must be added increasing system complexity without necessarily increasing efficiency for heating steam. Superheated steam may be used in marine turbines to increase power while reducing condensation within the initial turbine blade stages (also reducing the required size of the initial turbine stages). For heating purposes saturated steam gives up its heat energy as it condenses and superheated steam may be too hot for a given heating application while merely delaying condensation within a heat exchanger.
Q:I have a new insert but how do i get the most heat from it, there were no operating instructions?
IF the insert heat exchanger is adequately heating the main room, or even making it hot, then the problem is NOT the insert or your use of it , but instead, the problem is getting the warm air in the first room into the second room, and the cooler air in the second room into the warmer room and to the insert/heat exchanger for heating. The ...little sliding piece... is to control the amount of air that flows through the insert. By slowing down the airflow, you will cause the air to be inside the insert LONGER and thus give less volume of air into the room, BUT... because of the extended contact time inside the heat exchanger, that lower volume of air will be able to transfer MORE heat from the hot combustion gasses from the fire and thus come out hotter. The faster the air is passed through the exchanger, the cooler the outlet temperature will be. The same is true for the fan settings: the faster speed will move more air through at a lower outlet temperature, and the slower flow will provide hotter outlet temperature but less volume of air. Closing either vent control slightly, or the slower fan speed will give hotter air out, but to get maximum heat, all of those valves should be wide open and the fan on high. As for heating the second room, that is accomplished by what is called convection which is a circulation of a fluid [air or water for example] resulting in the fact that warmer/hotter fluid will rise upward, being replaced by drawing cooler fluid in below. Thus the second room gets its heat by the warm air up high flowing through the top of the doorway(s) into the cooler room, and the cooler air nearer floor level being drawn into the warmer room. You could enchance the warming of the second room by placing a fan up high in the warmer room and pointing the air flow through the upper part of the doorway. That would increase the rate of circulation of warmer air into the second room, and cooler air from that room into the warmer one. Good luck!

You can paint the heater, But do not get paint on the heating coils inside. The same is true for the cast Iron radiators. Paint acts as a insulation slows down the heat.

Sounds like the high temperature limit switch is tripping. Check your air-flow. If you aren't moving enough air through the heat exchanger the high limit will cycle the burners off until it cools down.
