Q:My check engine light is on in my 1999 Toyota Camry XLE...I went to autozone and they told me it was my egr valve BUT they did not tell me if it need to be cleaned or replaced. How can I tell if it needs to be cleaned or replaced
Flag is right. You should of got the code from AutoZone and posted it here. A trouble code can have several meanings and the salesperson just gave you his best interpretation with his limited knowledge. You either had a P0420, P1410, P1411, P1661 or P1662 code. More than likely it's EGR Valve Position sensor or EGR Vacuum Solenoid depending on the code. It also can be the wires or connectors that plug into them or one of the vacuum hoses to them. About a $40-$70 fix if you do it yourself. You can pull the EGR valve off to inspect it but you need to replace the $1 gasket under it when you are done. On old poorly maintained engines they can clog up with carbon deposits or the vacuum diaphragm can rupture. You can apply vacuum to the valve manually and see if it opens while you have it off. If you have good lungs you can do it with a piece of hose. :) If it works then it's not getting vacuum and most likely it's the EGR Vacuum Solenoid that opens and supplies vacuum to it. The EGR Valve Position Sensor tells the Vacuum Solenoid to open via the ECM. See if you can't get the code and post it.
Q:Or is our money stinky? is the $59 we paid not equivalent to that paid by xbox360 ps3? Please help!! I am sick of getting killed every 5 minutes. Is VAC false advertising?
Well first off Activision fired infinity ward so chances are slim to none (they hired Bungie, guys who created halo).. valve doesnt have a thing to do with the game and generally Activision are lazy asses so id count the chances around 1 in 100
Q:Okay, so veins have valves to help counteract the pull of gravity. I'm wondering, do the veins in the head have this same adaptation, seeing as these veins are simply bringing blood down to the heart, and are not pulling against gravity.
no they dont have valves
Q:My furnace cut out about a year ago. The hvac guy i used told me the gas valve was no good and that the flu was partially blocked. I cleaned out the flu, he replaced the gas valve ($700+) and it worked great for a year. Today the furnace does not fire up. Pilot is working. I cleaned out the flu (there was definitely quite a bit of debris, so that was probably the cause for the shut off) .... The flu is now clear, but when i turn the system back on the thermostat calls for heat, but there is no gas flow to the burner... could the valve have failed that quick, or should i be looking at something else like the CO sensor or something... just looking for some direction before shelling out another 700 bucks... Thanks in advance for any ideas or assistance....
There are a few possibilities. The valve runs on a low voltage line. The low voltage is provided by a transformer. It it possible the transformer is bad. Be sure the power switch to the furnace is on. (should be on the side of the furnace. Easy way to check is (on the thermostat) turn the fan switch from auto to run. The blower fan should come on. Check that the gas valve is in the ON position.(if you have had to light the pilot it may still be in pilot position.) Another possibility is a clogged gas line. If you have an older home rust can accumulate inside the iron gas lines. Where the gas line attaches to the furnace there should be a drip leg. This is a short length of pipe that points down with a cap on it from the TEE that goes into the furnace. This short piece of pipe is to catch any moisture or rust that comes thru the line. First TURN OFF the gas at the shut off in the pipe it's self. This is a quarter turn valve. When the handle is in line with the pipe the gas is on. When it is opposite the pipe (pointing out to the side) the gas is off. After turning the gas off, remove the cap from the bottom of the drip leg to remove any accumulation.USE PIPE DOPE not teflon tape when putting the cap back on.Turn the gas valve back on and check for leaks.
Q:okay, where the dome is on the head (where the flat part of the valves sit) the intake is uneven and the air+gas mixture escapes threw the open space when the piston goes up into the compression stage, and ignites shooting flames out of my exhaust port. the space is small but u can see light threw it when the valve sits there. Would some kind of Liquid metal work? or gas+heat resistant epoxy work to take the place of the missing space? I would file it but that would not be precise and time consuming, and i would buy a new head for $150, but the dealer doubles that price! and no way am i paying $300 for a new head. any comments would be well appreciated!
Without knowing actually how big the space is, I'm hampered in my answer. If the valve isn't bent, you may be able to lap the valve and seat. Your service manual should have directions on how to do this. Or you may even be able to grind it out with valve-grinding compound. I've gotten away with using valve-grinding compound heavily in some cases that probably should have been lapped. I put the valve in it's guide and attach a rubber hose and drill to the end of the valve. Then, after applying the compound to the seat and valve, I spin the valve while gently pressing on it's head. I keep adding compound as needed. I've done several this way with no problems. But if you have a big gouge you will probably need to get a lapper.
Q:hello my names matt and i have a 1997 eclipse 2.0 non turbo with 94k miles and the semi circul seal on my valve cover gasket has a small leak that i see oil dripping and i dont think the pcv valve has ever bin replaced could any of those cause my exhaust to burn oil maby a bad fuel injector? theres no oil in the top of the engine on the spark plugs when i check them all, the piston rings and the headgasket r not worn or cracked so idk what it could be some one please help
Valve cover gasket no PCV yes.
Q:How are they different from other valves ?
Test valves are typically needle valves but I have seen some occasional usage of 1/4 to 1/2 inch globe valves and ball valves used as test valves for sampling. Pressure gauge installations may have test valves installed just below them. The valves are used to isolate the gauge from the system pressure, a second valve is used to vent the trapped pressure so the gauge could return to zero. The same vent valve could then be used to attach a calibrated pressure source to the pressure gauge so as to check (qualify) the gauge reading against the standard. This was done on select gauges where a quick in place qualification could be done without the need to physically remove the gauge from the gauge board. I have also seen test valve setups in systems using a three way valve in a setup to scavenge the sensing line with a clean fluid. This is done when dealing with a slurry which could block the sensing line suach as in a quick lime system. Clean water would flush the line before and after a reading so as to not trap material in the sensing line which could build up and block or cause a false reading. Test valve location also gives a handy mean to obtain a sample of the process fluid.
Q:Ok so i am 16 years old, and i have Aortic stenosis, bicuspid aortic valve, aortic regurgitation and an Enlarged aorta. I am soon going to be getting an aortic valve replacement. I am just wondering what happens before and after the surgery and how long i will be in the hospital, how long in the ICU, what kind of tubes/machines will i need? any information will help. thanks :)
Mechanical valve will last for ever. But the red blood cells will be damaged and clot will be formed in the implanted mechanical valve. In order to prevent the formation of blood clot, the patient has to take warfarin (a blood thinner) for the rest of his/her life. If pig valve is used, there is no necessity to take the medicine (warfarin) for the rest of his/her life. But the tissue valve will function only for 15 years. Since you are too young, you have to opt for mechanical valve and to take the medicine for the rest of your life. Valve replacement is indicated for virtually all who can tolerate surgery. In younger patients, the patient's own pulmonic valve can be used, providing good durability; a bioprosthesis is then used to replace the pulmonic valve (Ross procedure). Most often, the aortic valve is replaced with a mechanical or bioprosthetic valve. You will stay in an intensive care unit for the first 2 or 3 days following the operation. Your heart functions will be monitored constantly. The average hospital stay is 1 - 2 weeks. Complete recovery will take a few weeks to several months, depending on your health before surgery.
Q:The check engine warning light came on in my car, i went to pump gas and try to start but it wouldn't start. I went to the dealership to let them check up, and they said the problem was the purge valve, it leaked. What is a purge valve and what does it do? Is it common for purge valve to go bad?
i would guess on avg 100K miles. But hey, my girlfriend has a 2006 altima and the starter went bust. My 98 acura still has it's original starter (honda uses great oem parts). things go depending on driving conditions and what we in the auto parts stores call flukes. Like a 2007 pontiac that needs a new ignition coil. That's why aftermarket companies continue to make parts for cars. no one wants to go to the dealer.
Q:I have an 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs and its a little jerky while driving and i think it might be the PCV valve but I don't know where it is located.. where is it? and would this cause the check engine light to come on?
