Q:What is a better knife Cold Steel VS SOG?
Look up a knife maker called Bench Made, the knife i recommend is the CQC7 its a tanto tip half serrated blade all low glare black folding with pocket clip. it has one of the hardest steel blades. You need to learn about steel hardness the harder the blade the sharper it can get and the harder the longer it will hold a edge. but hard steel can get brittle it can snap now as softer steel will bend and dull quick. the bench-made CQC7 goes for around $100 or that ball park...enjoy read some about the knife and think about what you want it for....my CQC7 can cut a coat hanger by pulling the serrate across the hanger!!
Q:Are steel doors insulated?
Not all steel doors are. Its about 20* where i am and my steel door feel somewhat cold, but not very cold. Yours could not be? If you take the lock off the door and look inside the hole where the lock was you should see insulation inside your door.
Q:best folding pocket knife or best steel for them?

Q:Is Damascus Steel Fake?
Well, it depends on what you call fake. Modern Damascus steel is perhaps similar, but it is not what people would call Damascus steel in 1500. It is made to look similar, but structurally it is different. For the most part the specific way of making Damascus steel is lost to history.
Q:from where do steel plants in gary, pittsburgh, detroit and Birmingham get their raw materials?
A lot of iron ore is available in the upper great lakes region. Iron ore needs to be transported on large freighters, and the Great lakes served a purpose for that transit system as well. I cant say much about Birmingham, but as for Detroit and Pittsburgh, the steel forming industry has been greatly affected by the low cost Asian imports now available. I think what happened was this: The US used to subsidize the US steel industry, this kept prices artificially high ( compared to the world market ), but also kept the plants open. Sometime during the present Bush administration, the US stopped subsidizing the steel industry, and the Asian steel manufacturers started dumping steel here in the US at very low prices, this caused the US company's to stop or greatly lower their production, and many US steel plants went out of business. Now with the US steel companies out of the way, the Asian steel companies have steadily raised their prices on the US steel buyer. Hows that for fair trade, the steel industry isn't the only thing this has happened to either. I know this was a bit of a rant, but I wanted to point out how a once proud steel industry was put to death by politics.

Q:quinching steel... hardening?
boy what a though question ! let me explain. when you rapidly cool a steel from high temperatures(depending on steel type) with water or oil or other means , it is called quenching. it depends on the steel type to say if it is better to quench it with oil or water but basically in water you will have a harder steel rather than oil. for some steels if you do this you will ruin it's properties ! you can't totally tell what kind of steel do you have until you get it analyzed with Quantometer analyzer with a pocket knife it is more like an estimation and it can't be trust able generally if you can scratch the steel with your knife it means it is not a hard steel and it might not be expensive. I hope that helps but for more information i need to know more !
Q:Judge Quality of Steel?
The quality of the alloy can be very well be judged by its appearance and lustrous surface. The more luster on the surface the more refine will the steel be. To judge its tenacity and endurance, the alloy can be subjected to a series of procedures involving stress and shock. The reaction to these processes can determine whether the steel be fit for the purpose required.
Q:What is the amount of Iron found in Steel?
pl. be specific about the type of steel: (Steel is a metal alloy whose major component is iron, with carbon content between 0.02% and 1.7% by weight. Carbon is the most cost effective alloying material for iron, but many other alloying elements are also used.[1] Carbon and other elements act as a hardening agent, preventing dislocations in the iron atom crystal lattice from sliding past one another. Varying the amount of alloying elements and their distribution in the steel controls qualities such as the hardness, elasticity, ductility, and tensile strength of the resulting steel. Steel with increased carbon content can be made harder and stronger than iron, but is also more brittle. The maximum solubility of carbon in iron is 1.7% by weight, occurring at 1130° Celsius; higher concentrations of carbon or lower temperatures will produce cementite which will reduce the material's strength. Alloys with higher carbon content than this are known as cast iron because of their lower melting point.[1] Steel is also to be distinguished from wrought iron with little or no carbon, usually less than 0.035%. It is common today to talk about 'the iron and steel industry' as if it were a single thing; it is today, but historically they were separate products. Currently there are several classes of steels in which carbon is replaced with other alloying materials, and carbon, if present, is undesired. A more recent definition is that steels are iron-based alloys that can be plastically formed (pounded, rolled, etc.). Iron alloy phases : Austenite (γ-iron; hard) Bainite Martensite Cementite (iron carbide; Fe3C) Ferrite (α-iron; soft) Pearlite (88% ferrite, 12% cementite) Types of Steel : Plain-carbon steel (up to 2.1% carbon) Stainless steel (alloy with chromium) HSLA steel (high strength low alloy) Tool steel (very hard; heat-treated) Other Iron-based materials : Cast iron (2.1% carbon) Wrought iron (almost no carbon) Ductile iron)
Q:Do steel cartridge cases take less pressure than brass cases?
The ammo loaded in steel casing has a tendency to be loaded at lower pressures, for some reason. Most if not all of the steel case is of foreign manufacture. No reason steel can't be loaded to same pressures to that of brass, would probably seal better. Most of the calibers you describe in steel cases go in weapons with loose tolerances, like the AK. Lot of times, the steel won't seal in the chamber, creating blow by, putting crud in the chamber. This condition makes it hard to feed, chamber, and extract in a tight dimension chamber that is present in NATO weapons. AK's, due to more generous tolerances, won't be sensitive to this.. Weapons from NATO are of more tightly toleranced chambers like the AR, HK, Barret, etc. where brass is more reliable in sealing, and minimizes the blow by and keeps things clean, or at least more clean than a steel case that may not seal.
