Q:Can solar panels be used on boats or marine applications?
Yes, solar panels can be used on boats or marine applications. In fact, they are becoming increasingly popular for providing renewable energy on board boats, yachts, and other marine vessels. Solar panels can generate electricity to power various onboard systems, including navigation equipment, lighting, refrigeration, and charging batteries. They are a sustainable and efficient way to harness solar energy while minimizing reliance on traditional fuel sources.
Q:I would like to know if I had a mobile kitchen could I power it from solar panels mounted atop the vehicle (truck).(to power electric kitchen equipment, i.e. stove, deep fryer.), instead of propane…could I possibly connect the solar panels to a battery to save my generated electricity? If solar panels would not be enough power could a small windmill suffice…?
The best way to find out is to determine the wattage of each piece of equipment you want to use and how many hours you want to use those pieces of equipment. Finally, calculate the total number of Watt-Hours you need at minimum. Then you need to research solar panels or mobile wind mills (they need to be pretty huge to get a decent amount of energy I think, so solar power is probably the way to go). You will need to figure out the efficiency of the solar panels, the size of the array, how you will turn it or if you will turn it at all (to face the sun to get the maximum energy input, or maybe to use mirrors so you don't have to turn it. Once you find a good configuration for your mobile kitchen, you need to calculate if the Watt-Hours you will generate on an average day (with average weather) is enough to power the equipment whose energy requirements you previously calculated. Then you have to keep in mind that some days will have no sun, and you may not be working on some days, but you can still capture sunlight. For each case, a large battery array will be required. If you had a guage on that array, you could also hook it up to the a small generator in case you need immediate power. It's an eco-friendly process, but the initial cost is high and it requires a lot of research and planning. This is why most people do not do it--not because they don't want free energy from the sun, but because it's not easy to start collecting that energy in an efficient way. Sorry I couldn't give you more specific numbers, but a solar panel sales agency should be able to estimate whether or not you could do it (they'd probably set it all up for you too). ^_^
Q:I know absolutely nothing about electronics but have a lot of money. I am thinking of buying the Sunforce 3730 30W monocrystalline solar panel (the best I could find that was that size or smaller). What would be a good battery to go with it? I am thinking of buying a 2V Concorde Sun Xtender (again, the best I could find). But how many batteries will I need? I want enough batteries that it would take the solar panel 2 days to completely charge them from empty (bearing in mind the unavoidable inefficiencies like cloudiness/changing sun angles). Also, what other stuff would I need, like I hear something about a quot;charge controllerquot;? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
If you are at a location/time where the panel will put out less power, you can adjust the battery size accordingly. And running a battery to empty is very bad for it's service life, so it's better to go a bit bigger.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a church or religious building?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a church or religious building. In fact, many religious institutions have embraced solar energy as a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to meet their energy needs. Installing solar panels on these buildings not only helps them reduce their carbon footprint but also promotes a message of stewardship and responsibility towards the planet.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a military base?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a military base. In fact, many military bases around the world have already implemented solar energy systems as part of their efforts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and increase sustainability. Solar panels can be installed on rooftops, parking lots, or open grounds of military bases to generate clean renewable energy.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a telecommunications tower or antenna?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a telecommunications tower or antenna. In fact, many telecom companies are increasingly adopting this practice to power their equipment and reduce reliance on grid electricity. Solar panels can be mounted on the tower structure or integrated into the antenna design to generate renewable energy and ensure continuous power supply for telecommunication operations.
Q:I don't have a regulator connected as they are a little expensive for a pensioner, If I join the panels into line to the battery bank from the roof should that be OK.?
I am pretty darn sure you need the regulator because all the advertising says that you must have one if you have more than one small solar panel. I think you can overcharge your batteries otherwise. Solar power is still not cost effective, so most people have solar power because they care about the environment more than they care about expenses. If you are poor, it is better to skip solar power, unless you are in an area where there isn't access to electricity. For example, we have a cabin without electricity. I am a strong environmentalist, too. Solar power is too expensive still, for low income people. It is better to focus on energy conservation, imo. such as change your roof to white, to save on A/C, as the head of the US energy dept. says (he is a nobel prize winning physicist). PS Dave might be right on that stuff, i don't know. but all the ads say you need a regulator if you are going to have more than one solar panel so I assumed this was due to risk of overcharging.
Q:i am trying to get it to work on solar power They are outdoors and we dont feel like running a few hundred feet of power cables. Thanks and best answer will get 0 points.
Research using solar panels on stock tank water pumps. Same concept - you use a solar panel to power a remote something or other, only you would have to use a battery charged by day to run the camera at night. It does not look like you would need too powerful of a solar panel, the camera server says it needs less than 5w, no idea on the cameras, so check that out, but the whole system looks rather low power. You could easily get the necessary panels, maybe the battery too, for... I would say $200 (not in one package, you would have to get separate things). Connection of everything would be simple, no electrician needed (but keep that to yourself, depending upon state rules and regs).
Q:Can solar panels be used in areas with limited space?
Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with limited space. There are various types of solar panels available, including smaller and more compact ones, that can be installed in limited spaces such as rooftops, balconies, or even on walls. Additionally, advancements in solar technology have allowed for the development of flexible and thin-film solar panels that can be integrated into various surfaces, further maximizing space utilization.
Q:How many solar panels do you need on your house to power your heater in winter?
As a solar installer, I'd love to give you a simple answer but I can't. Most solar contractors offer a free solar evaluation where they will tell you how much energy they can generate given your site conditions, what it would cost, and how long the payback would be. Rather than a bunch of inexperienced people giving you a bunch of hypotheticals, I think this would be the best option.
