When it becomes thread bare, or does not come clean when you clean it, or it becomes damaged in some way that cannot be repaired, or you just can't stand to look at it any more...that's the time to change it. There is no rule of thumb, and anyone who tries to give you a time line based on just time, is just trying to sell you carpet. If it's not broken, don't fix it. There is a point though, when you can go too long. Example: I bought a house about a year ago with really terrible carpet. It was about 40 years old and looked like it had never been cleaned. It was horrible. I pondered for a split second whether I should try to have it cleaned once, to see if it was salvagable or go ahead and remove it before I moved in. Every time I went to the house, while trying to prep it to move in, I came out itching.... I had every last stitch of carpet removed, and found beautiful hardwood floors throughout, and so had those refinished and bought area rugs. So, that was an extreme....the point is that it is possible to wait too long, but still, keep your carpets as long as you keep them clean and you like them. I had another carpet, which I loved, for about 20 years, and I loved looking at it every day when I came home. I kept it very clean, and finally killed it with a dropped iron....

'I Love My Carpet' cleans everything. and also CLOROX BLEACH PENS get the stains out of anything! I swear! For the paint you could try spraying hairspray on it and it might come out easier. You could put club soda, bleach, baking soda and water, or nail polish remover on stains and scrub it with a wet wash cloth, and it should clean your carpet. You could also try a steam cleaner.

Ideally they should be professionally cleaned with the markers and make up, both really tough stains. Professionally cleaning really isn't that expensive especially if you can find a coupon from the company for a discount. My question is why isn't the landlord getting involved?

it is just a type of soap they use on the carpet so as long as you are not allergic you should be fine.

Q:I have a new rug, 6 months old at this point, that constantly sheds. There's 'rug dust' all over the house. It sticks to my daughters feet and even ends up in her diapers. Does anyone have suggestions on how to minimize this problem. We love the rug and do not want to get rid of it.

Most rugs shed, but they do get significantly better over time. You just have to stick with it. Vacuum it regularly to tease out the bits of fluff that are ready to go. I myself got a new rug on Saturday, but it sounds like the next 6-12 months will be hell...!

Try hand sanitizer. I once got sharpie (which is permanent rly hard to get out) on my shirt. I soaked my shirt in a dish of hand sanitizer it immediately came out. Once it was dry it looked like it did before the sharpie. So just take a towel soak it in hand sanitizer press it on the carpet stain wait 1 min or 2
