Q:My brother has an area rug that constantly bunches. It is on top of carpet and we put a pad with that gripping surface under it, but it still won't stay put. We need something that will keep it from wrinkling every time someone walks on it. Is there a product (besides duct tape) that will do this?
You mentioned you have a pad. Is it a pad specifically made for a rug going over a carpet. If not that might be the problem. Rug to Rug hold pad is best. It is a thin pad that has a tackiness on both sides. It will not hurt your exisiting carpet, and will hold your rugs in place. It take a few days to get the pad to settle into its memory to hold your rug. A rug to rug hold pad will sometimes lose it tackiness to hold a rug in place, however if you can wash it usually that tackiness comes back. Don't put it in the dryer. The rug to rug hold pad sort of feels like post-a-note tackiness. Usually this type of pad can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowe's and most rug stores will carry a variety of pads. If all else fails you can use double-sided tape, not duct tape.
Q:How much would a carpet cost to buy and install 12 x 12
Depends on the cost of the carpet per yard which is how most carpet is sold. 12' x 12' is the equivalent of 16 yards of carpet, You also need to buy pad if the old pad is worn (its probably as worn as the carpet you are replacing), Go to your local carpet store and get per yard prices for the carpet you like. As a general rule, for the basic no frills in-stock Home Depot variety carpet, I would figure approximately $9-$10 per yard and about $2-3 per yard for pad (I know prices vary but thats a rough idea). Around $200. As for the installation - you will have to call around to find out the per yard price to install because it varies depending on where you are located.
Q:i dont have enough money to re-carpet my floor. for my room my dad says that it would cost about $500. but we dont have enough spare money for that kind of thing (we're saving for disney.) but i hate my carpet! it has stains all over it that i cant get out. and its a girly periwinkle color. he said that i can re-paint it. but i cant paint it the color i want because the carpet wont work with it. i dont know what to do. my room is SO tiny as it is and i dont like it very much already. my parents have the biggest room (obviously) my older brother has the second biggest, my little brother has the third (i could have had it but it has green walls and red carpet) and my older sisters room is the same size as my little brother's. what is an alternative to recarpeting my room so i dont have to pay as much??? is there ANY ideas, anything that might help is appretiated, thanks!!!
you can always go out and rent an extraction machine and clean your carpet. also whats underneath your carpet? if its wood flooring and its in good shape take the carpet out and get yourself an area rug or runner.
Q:Okay, I'm buying my first carpet for the house. Help! What kind of things do i need to look out for? What's the deal with underlay? I'm 24, but i've never had to buy a carpet before as this is my first house, and i have no idea what i'm looking for.Any help will be greatly appreciated :)
bought some last week. did a lot of reading. here's the summary: - new technology nylon - good density - high tuft twist (scale 3-9, 9 is best) - anti-static, anti-stain, anti-mildew - accurate measurements - good padding - warranty (usually 5 or 10 years) - borrow samples
Q:I'm in a 5 piece band playing in about a 20x20 room. 2 walls aren't covered with boxes and the floor is linoleum. It's really loud in there and we need to dampen the room to a bearable level. We were thinking about getting 3 or 4 rugs for said 2 walls and floor. But then we started considering acoustic foam. I'm sure acoustic foam is more effective than rugs, but since we're on a really tight budget, is it really worth it to spend twice as much on foam? Or will rugs suffice? Side question, if we get rugs, could we just get 2 and put them on the floor since i'm certain the linoleum is the main culprit, or do the walls probably need it to?
carpeting foam is cheaper. :D
Q:I have to clean a carpet that has a red cool aid stain on it? Since it is not my carpet, I have no idea how long the stain has set into the carpet. I am willing to try just about anything short of a beach based cleaner? The carpet is an off white, so it's extremely noticable. Any suggestions, or is this a hopeless case?
I like the oxygen activated cleaners also, but I'd follow up with a steam cleaner.
Q:what should i do?
your feet have 250 thousand pours that excreet smell and fungus.. I wash mine 1 time a week. on easiest cycle and hang dry Good Luck Happy Holidays XOXO
Q:I want to redo my basement but getting new carpet is so expensive! Right now I have a really ugly green carpet with red and light yellowish squares. My kids want to make it in to a more loungey basement so the carpet is gonna be really hard to work with. Is there a much cheaper alternative to carpet or even any ideas as to how we can blend it in or make it work? We really dont want to use the colors in the carpet for anything in the basement. The basement is very very big so even semi-cheap things might be expensive. Thank you!
That flooring for garages, called garage flooring tile, from Lowe's or Home Depot would be good for a basement. I think it's plastic; not sure though. If the floor is concrete, painting it would be a cheap option, and just add some inexpensive area rugs.
Q:How long will the carpet flame retardant have effect after spraying on the carpet?
Carpet flame retardant is a lie, it is useless.
Q:No, I dont mean dancing! I have hardwood floors in my bedroom. I want to buy carpet, but the room is an odd shape. Is it easy to cut myself, and would I only need special scissors? Or should I pay to have someone do it for me?
The problem will be the edges, unless you are talking about carpeting the whole room. If it is just a rug, cut it carefully, and then bring it to a specialty shop to have the edges sewn. Any high quality rug store should be able to direct you there.
