Q:What is the best way to get up engineered hardwood floors that have been glued down?
the floor scrappers are too wide and the air chisel - yeah doesn't work well either. unfortunately, after my home flooded we had to do the same thing! here is what we used.... wonder bar and a hammer and two screwdrivers - one large and one smaller.... get to the edge pound in little screwdriver near the seam, larger one toward the other side/middle. rock upward once in and then get the wonderbar in.... then pound away at that. it takes forever.... 3 guys 2 full days AND that doesn't inclued the hallway and 3x18 area i'd already done.... it was a royal PITA!! good luck!
Q:Installing engineered wood flooring with baseboard radiators?
Baseboard radiators work by convection, meaning they take in air through the bottom, which passes over the heating core and then the warmer, lighter air rises out the top. This creates a circuit of cool air entering at the floor and warm air rising along the wall. Therefore, you need to have the bottom open for the heaters to work correctly. I'm guessing from your description that you would be reducing the size of the opening at the bottom. Any amount you reduce it won't help, but as long as you still have at least an inch and a half or so, you should be OK. I would just do it, and if the room seems colder when you're done, then maybe you might need to raise the heaters. I would think you can do that after the floors are installed without much problem (other than the pesky cost problem). The metal housing is usually separate and snaps on to the fin-tube and pipe inside. Maybe you can raise the cover (you might have to modify them a bit, cut off the snap on flanges or create new attachment points where they screw into the wall) to maintain the current opening at the bottom without moving the pipes...
Q:What happens to the solid wood floor
If the water is relatively large, alreadysoaked below, has obvious phenomenon of wet on the floor, I suggest you remove a part, buy some seasonings, absorb water on the ground, keep indoor ventilation, do not pay attention to the floor after exposure, water soaked or damp floor, if the sun will be the floor deformation, arch.
Q:How to protect the wood floor?
Strengthen floor maintenance easily fall into two errors:First, excessive maintenance, such as waxing, or repeated a day with a very wet mop mopping the floor, are wrong; Two is to ignore the maintenance, long time is not clean, do not pay attention to ventilation, the situation is not timely repair, such as the drum after a long time does not repair, it is easy to cause the edge can not be repaired, etc.. In view of this situation, as long as the understanding of the basic knowledge of the use of the floor, laminate flooring maintenance is not trouble. In daily life, pay attention to the details, you can bring the floor of the consumer long-term stability
Q:What is the potential problem of the engineered wood flooring for basement?
you need to do a moisture test on your floor first to see if it is feasible first you get a gallon Ziploc and tape (duct tape) it to an exposed area of concrete leave it for 24 hrs if moisture collects on the bag you need another flooring. you could go with laminate and get a moisture barrier padding to go under it, or there is a flexible floating PVC flooring out now the more pricier ones have texture that feels like wood and looks so real i have seen people actually touch it before they believed it wasn't
Q:Is engineered hardwood flooring ok in a kitchen?
Yes it ll be fine as long as care is taken when it comes to cleaning and you know that possibility of extra water in a kitchen area. Only 2 ways to apply engineeered wood over slab. You can have it glued down or a floating floor system. Some engineered woods come already to install in a floating floor and others you can make into a floating floor. Since you already have a good base ( the slab) I would suggest tile, perhaps in a wood look because of the potencial water and cleaning. The cost would be close to the same. But your house, your choice. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:which is the best choice of wood for engineered flooring?
The most durable - tough flooring is either maple or oak - very durable - in terms of engineered flooring - I just put in a composite flooring that had a 1/8 thick hardwood veneer on a plywood base - prefinished. It went in great. 7 wide x 84 long pieces - tongue and groove - Good luck
Q:Why is my engineered wood floor separating?
The reason is simple ! it is not seasoned well. hence it is shrinking. Go back to the supplier and demand rectification of the defects.
Q:Solid wood floor transparent coating off, how to do?
You have waxed the floor? If there may be waxed, wax layer, with some wax coating water bubble pulled, if can dissolve the wax, so long as the professional cleaning company in addition to wax can be solved. If not, that is the paint film, which is difficult to solve, to re paint the paint can be resolved.
Q:DIYer's have any of you ever put down engineered hardwood flooring on concrete?
I did it with glue down engineered hardwood at my friend's house. The only difficulty was that the few parts of the floor that weren't completely level had a little give at first. With time, the floor will settle into any minor dips. Any major dips or cracks in the concrete will need to be leveled by skimming, which is basically just thinning down thinset mortar and using a squeegy (not sure if I spelled that right) to spread it. It went down really easily.
