- if your carpet is smelling of mold it could mean you have mold growing under it. If it?s only a small area you can fix this without lifting up the whole carpet. I can suggest this. If you have a spare piece of carpet or can cut a piece from some where it will not show (Under heavy furniture ) . Then cut the moldy piece of carpet out using a sharp safety razor. Then treat the mold with a proprietary fungicide. Once you have this done , Dab the bottom of the hole and the ends of the tufts with a suitable latex adhesive, insert the tufts into the hole and allow to dry , the trim the tufts if necessary and brush to blend with pile. Save you a lot of money and time if you have to lift a whole carpet and replace it

- To be very honest with you, the only rug of that size you will find for under $50 will have to be second hand and likely not in great condition. I have never in my life heard of finding that size rug at that type of price. Good luck. If you do find one, please let me know where -- I would order from that supplier even if they are overseas and shipping doubles the cost!
- Q:I just moved into a brand new house to then spill bright red nail polish all over the carpet any ideas on how to get it out without ruining the carpet?
- Wipe up all excess polish on the carpet, get some acetone or butyl alcohol at the hardware store put some an old washcloth (one that still has alot of 'nap' left) test it in an inconspicous area (inside a closet) to see if it harms the carpet. If the carpet is okay after drying, re-apply solvent to washcloth and wipe up the nail polish. You also might snip off a sample of the carpet fibers to take to a carpet store, maybe they may have a better idea how to clean that particular fiber. Acetone is basically nail polish remover that is cheaper by the gallon.

- I bet your house was built on a slab. It sounds like they didn't put a vapor barrier under the concrete and your slab is wicking a tiny bit of moisture up from the soil. Or, if your house is brand new, it may be that your slab is still curing.
