Q:I hate vacuum cleaners and my dad vacuums all of the time. Does anybody know of a silent vacuum cleaner?
All vacuums will have a fair bit of noise. There is no way to make a silent vacuum but there are ways to reduce it. My suggestion is that if you are noise aversive then you need to go down to Sears/BestBuy and try every vacuum they have yourself, don't rely on another person to tell you how loud a vacuum is. But as a general rule, the better quality the motor is and the less moving parts there are, the quieter the vacuum is. Also strong plastics, good quality construction, and tight fitting parts will also help in noise reduction. Over time cheap plastic bodies will start to rattle more as well as the screws that hold them. And duct tape does not fix everything, I’ve tried.
Q:I saw a wide range of prices for vacuum cleaners...I just need a decent one, how much should that cost?
I recently bought a new vacuum cleaner and really looked into it before I bought. I have a lot of pets, including a very large, hairy dog and a small budget, so I needed something REALLY good for a low price. I got the Eureka Boss 4D, model 4893. It cost me $139.99 and in my opinion is it better than ANY cleaner I've ever used, including Dysons. It's heavy though, I'd not recomend it if you have any mobility problems like arthritis or similar.
Q:I've been working on a couple projects in one room in my house. The room really needs to be vacuumed but there is aquarium gravel scattered around as well as a bunch of tiny screws. I have a shark vacuum. There's no threat of puncturing a bag because this vacuum doesn't use a bag - it uses a canister. I could easily empty the canister and then go over the floor with the hose. I'm wondering if it's an ok idea though because I don't want to damage anything in the vacuum. Occasionally, my battery powered aquarium vacuum will suck up a couple pieces of gravel, they'll get stuck, stop the vacuum, and I have to get them out for the vacuum to work again. I don't know how house vacuums work, but I don't want that to happen. If there aren't any mechanical components to be damaged, then I guess the only other worry would be the hose, but the hose on this vacuum feels pretty sturdy, and I would just be vacuuming tiny gravel and tiny, corroded screws - nothing sharp like tacks or nails. What do you guys think?
really?...really?
Q:I'm a guy who isn't extremely familiar with vacuum cleaners so maybe someone can help. I was running around the house with my Kenmore Progressive vacuum cleaner and I accidentally pushed the adjustable thingy that lets you set the height of the vacuum. This adjuster thing is about halfway down the silver tube. The second I touched it, the carpet cleaning part shut off so it's just sucking air. I pushed everything together as hard as I could trying to get it to come back on but with no luck. I had been vacuuming for quite a while. Do these things shut off when they get too hot and stay off until they cool? It seems kind of fishy that it died right when i touched the adjuster thing though. Any ideas?
I interpret your description to mean that the motor that drives the beater brush stopped running. If that motor is really an electric motor (and not one of those turbine brush drives), and the problem of it shutting off when you hit the height adjustment is related, then it would seem reasonable to look for a broken wire. One other possibility is that maybe the brush dug into the carpet (did you adjust it downward?) and stalled the motor and that might have caused it to burn out (usually a fusible link in the motor windings), or with luck, it's just a breaker that you can reset. If it was a thermal protection device that tripped, it would had to have been quite a coincidence, because if it tripped from an over-temperature condition, it would not likey happen so instantantly after you hit the adjustment control.
Q:I was wondering why my vacuum cleaner was leaving trails of crap all over the place... so I flipped it upside down when it was on, and it turns out it does vacuum (quite powerfully, at that) but all the crap gets shot out of another part of the bottom! What can I do to stop this... maybe it just needs a good cleaning? I don't know much about vacuum cleaners, but I know they shouldn't do THAT..... thanks in advance! :)
Hmm odds are you may have a dirty filter or bag perhaps even a clog while it's normal for things to occasionally be left behind if it's leaving a lot you typically have obstructed airflow, i'm also curious are you using this on a hard floor? i know most uprights are not really made for hard floors as the brushroll will fling things back at ya if this is the case i would suggest getting a bare floor tool
Q:Usually I just have to sweep kitty litter off the bathroom floor, but now I have some on my carpet. Is it ok to use a vacuum?
It depends on the vacuum. In older models with bags to collect the debris, kitty litter will create too much dust and eventually clog up the vacuum. If you have a vacuum like the Dyson, it will be fine. My Dyson has been doing duty for more than 8 years and lots of kitty litter over that time with no problems. good luck!
Q:Why does my dog hate vacuum cleaners, broom and dust pans, mops, iron, ironing board, and mixer?
Most dogs are afraid of common household cleaners, especially the vacuum. The vacuum's noise might hurt the dog's ears or frighten the dog. Try to keep your dog outside or in another room while you clean. Dogs don't like cleaners. It probably reminds dogs of the vet or bath time, which lots of dogs find unpleasant. Good luck, I hope this helps!
Q:Can other cleaners be used in rug doctor cleaning vacuum?
I actually used bleach and water in a rug doctor machine. If you have a light colored carpet it works great. my water bed leaked and carpeting was soaked and smelled like mildew, traditional cleaners did nothing but the bleach water was glorious, carpeting looked great and mildew smell was gone.
Q:Does anyone know of a quiet vacuum? I would like to vacuum the house without my little man crying.
Hoover LINX cordless stick vac AKA the cheerio getter. Its pretty quiet, gets the job done and my little man loves to try to push it around.
Q:I remember reading an interesting quote a while back about the advent of vacuum cleaners (which I think represented modern technology). It basically stated that before vacuum cleaners work was done by hand, and when vacuums were invented the work was done two times faster but because of the dust given off by the vacuum vacuuming had to be done twice as frequently as the manual way of cleaning. Does anyone know the quote in its entirety?
Nothing sucks like an Electrolux.
