Ethylene Cracking Heater belongs to Chemical Reaction Heater, fluid will be cracked by catalyst in tubes directly. The cracking of high molecular compound needs high temperature, so, the firebox temperature of Ethylene Cracking Heater is usually more than 1150℃ and tubes shall be heated uniformly. Lots of Burners shall be arranged at the bottom and side walls to meet above requirements. Burners at the bottom often use gas or combination of oil & gas as fuel to provide the 70% of heat productivity. Burners at side walls shall be Flameless Burners and the flame is attached to Walls in round shape.

In 2007, Corporation together with Beijing Petroleum University developed a new type of Burner (H-116) at the bottom of Cracking Heater which had been applied on the old Ethylene Cracking Unit in Maoming City successfully. The initial designed load of H-116 for cracking naphtha is 19.3t/h, 20.3t/h for cracking hydrogenation tail oil and 18.77t/h for cracking diesel oil, while the actual maximum feeding load is only 85~90% of the designed load. If the load is exceed 90%, Burner can not keep smooth burning because of serious over temperature at Convection Section. The operation safety can not be guaranteed under this condition. After replacing new Burner, the load of Cracking Heater had reached to 19.3t/h in first operation cycle and 19.6t/h in second operation cycle in good condition which had helped to save the fuel, increase the capacity of treatment and lower the temperature of flue gas. Thermal efficiency of H-116 is more than 93.5% which was increased 0.5~1% after replacing new Burner, so the coke-burning cycle was greatly extended.
