Q:Does the plastic in bottled water pose a risk?
I think Dog Owner is on the right track. Plastic breaks down to PCBs (poly-bicarbonate). It does not disapear. Ever. There are three pounds of PCB's to every pound of algae in our oceans. What seems such a dismissible threat is choking out our environment.
Q:Is burning plastic in a fire safe?
Surferch... is right. It depends on the plastic but some plastics will certainly produce toxic gases when burned. In most cases, the human nose can smell these fumes at levels that are well below where the exposure becomes harmful but, it depends. For example, when teflon is burned, it produces hyrofluoric acid (HF) vapor. As far as I know, the recommended maximium safe exposure level to HF is virtually zero. I suggest you ask him if he has a permit for burning. It was not too long ago that almost every house had a burn barrel out back. A lot of household waste was burned, food scraps were put in the compost, the metal was collected and taken to the scrap metal dealer.
Q:Does plastic or Styrofoam contain more hydrocarbons?
Styrofoam is foamed polystyrene. Please be aware that there is an immense number of different polymers in use today. The only ones that are hydrocarbons, in the sense of containing only hydrogen and carbon, are polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene [butyl rubber], and polyisoprene [natural rubber, though suilfur is added to vulcanize it]. All polymers do have other stuff added to them; antioxidants, mold release/extrusion lubricants, fillers, etc etc etc. However, perhaps what you meant to ask was what polymer uses less oil to make ? To a first approximation, the weight of the two cups would be a good indicator. To get more accurate than that, you need to know the efficiencies of making the polymers, and I don't, sorry. The easiest way to tell what the plastic cup is made of is to look at the recycling number and letters. pete = poly ethylene terephthalate, PET to those in the polymer industry PP = polypropylene I strongly suspect it will be one of those two. Or perhaps you meant which has more free hydrocarbons ? I would guess the order to be [hi to lo] styrofoam, PP, then PET, but I am not really sure.
Q:How is plastic made and how does it stay soft? ?
Plastics that we use today all are polymers (i.e. obtained from polymerization of simplest alkene: ethylene) n(CH2=CH2) ------------------------> -(-CH2-CH2-)-n ethylene polyethylene Properties of polyethylene = tough and durable They can easily be soften on heating and can easily remould (recycled) because they are thermoplastic polymers.
Q:Do dogs digest small plastic lids?
No they can't digest that. Take him to the vet. There might be a slight chance hed be ok, but I wouldn't risk it.
Q:the pay of a plastic surgeon?
Most plastic surgeons, like most other physicians, are independent businessmen who are profitable only when their income exceeds their expenses. Their income is based on the amount charged per procedure times the number of patients minus expenses. Expenses are costs such as office rent, medical supplies, staff costs (nurses, receptionists and anyone else they might need) and the BIG expense is their malpractice insurance. Their pay is, therefore, based on the number of patients they see. They need to work up an outstanding reputation and have a good location. A good plastic surgeon in NY or LA will make a LOT more money than a good plastic surgeon in a less populated area like Wyoming. They can make as much as a million dollars a year. s
Q:Is plastic harmful? blablabal?
I don't trust plastic. When heated I know it can leach out carcinogenic chemicals. It's full of them. I don't know if just putting a bottle cap in your mouth would do it but there are no benefits from doing that. Seems like the rise of cancer coincides with the rise of plastic materials.I wonder if your parents never drink out of a plastic bottle. My suggestion is don't heat food in plastic or pour hot liquids into a plastic container to drink.
Q:information on reusable plastic bottles.?
Plastic bottles usually are numbered on how many times it could be re-used. Look for the number at the bottom. Plastic bottles with lexan are light weight and reusable.
Q:What's the use of plastic?
PET film, PET is mainly used in the plastics industry, film and bottle, and film can be used as packaging, decoration, or tape based capacitor insulation, PET is also used as a photographic film, PET are widely used for fiber, paper with PET with material viscosity of PET is bottle films and fibers. Therefore, recycling is also slightly different. The factory waste production of PET films and fibers can be used for polyester / epoxy resin powder coating, generally the relative molecular mass of these scraps is about 20 thousand, above the melting point of 260 degrees, is composed of a single linear PET. This will use polyol alcoholysis waste at 250 to 260 degrees, can have a relative molecular mass of about 2000 to 5000 of the low melting point polyester oligomer. Oligomerization polyester was added at 200 to 220 degrees with two yuan anhydride and esterifying agent to obtain acid value of about 3. 05 mgKOH/g, softening point of about 85 to 105 degrees, glass temperature of less than or equal to 50 degrees of product, this product is used to make polyester / epoxy resin powder coating.
Q:Why are things made of plastic?
plastic is cheaper and easier to shape than metal (or wood). plastic is not considered eco-friendly, unless it is made from vegetative sources, and is biodegradable
